My headcannon is that whispy actually is, essentially, the forest itself. In a way, whispy can be any tree in his forest, if the face shows up, that tree right now is Whispy. Likewise, he’s not really a bad guy, but just doesn’t want Kirby causing trouble in his otherwise peaceful life.
Thats how the anime potrayed him essentially, cause in the episode Whispy debuted in, Dedede choped down the forest Kirby just used one of Whispys apples to grow him back up and Whispy used more of his apples to regrow the rest of the forest. That and in the episode War of The Woods he tells Kirby and co. that he sense his friend Acor is in grave danger. How else could he do that while Acor is all the way across the forest
I'm surprised you didn't talk about Yggy Woods' name being a reference to Yggdrasil, considering that is the "world tree", which could have some implications regarding Yggy's role and/or origin

Don't get me wrong, it's cool to see normal Whispy mobile to an extent, but I think he was at his strongest when Dark Matter allowed him to walk. Also, thank you for mentioning his ancient age. Lastly, the way his face manifests on the bark makes me think that he's more of a spirit that can form with any tree in his forest.

You mentioned the second Whispy Woods in "Rainbow Curse," but the first one was also a separate Whispy from the one we love. Both Whispys in the game were imperfect copies created by Claycia, evidenced by multiple figuring descriptions talking about how "THIS Whispy Woods doesn't drop apples."
I kinda wanna think that Kirby is just trying to get an apple from the tree to eat but the forest doesn't allow him to take it so Kirby thinks of the tree as a threat and we'll...kills wispy...😂it's fucked up but that's what I see it as.
I think cappies are baby Whispy Woods. They have the same face as Whispy, and are absent in AM, being replaced with Golems to match Whispy being replaced with King Golem. On a similar note, maybe Waddle Doos are Waddle Dees infected by baby Krackos who use them as their hosts. They have the same beam attack and eye, and Kracko can summon Waddle Doos. CS has shown us that Waddle Dees can become Waddle Doos when possessed.
Here's something weird about Whispy's apples. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the trophy description for Whispy's apples reads: _"Fruit that falls from above when you're battling Whispy Woods. Kirby_ _can suck them up and spit them out as useful projectile weapons. They're_ _nice to have around when you don't have any Copy Abilities, but they do_ _damage when they hit you, so they can be a bother too. They offer no"_ _ability when swallowed._ *These apples are not produced by Whispy Woods."* Also, not all Whispy Woods can grow apples, as shown in Whispy's figurine description in Kirby's Rainbow Curse: _When most people think Whispy Woods,_ _they think apples!_ *But this Whispy can't grow apples,* so he simply drops bombs instead. _An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but I don't think_ _the same can be said for bombs._
In the anime,King Dedede lied to Whispy Woods saying that Kirby and his friends Tiff &Tuff are going to destroy the forest,because he is Guardian of the Forest " Whispy Woods" in the anime.Also all the other trees were alive like Whispy in the forest.

I haven't seen anyone mention this, but isn't it weird that Whispy showed up on Earthfall after Popstar? Remember, these are separate, presumably alien worlds, so this creates a possibility Whispy not actually being a tree, but a tree-like alien. This would explain him being the only sentient tree, as he is indeed an alien different from his surroundings. As for the Whispy Woods dropping apples as opposed to Yggy's cherries? Apples and cherries look somewhat similar, just with cherries having smaller fruit and a bigger stem, and vice-versa for apples. This also explains the Yggy in the bonus level. The center of all the eyed trees is Earthfall, and Yggy spreads his seeds by way of space, planting more nature guardians on other planets, and perhaps there's another Yggy as a result of the distorted environment. Maybe the Yggy we see on Earthfall isn't even the original! There could be a full on Yggdrasil somewhere out there. Maybe Earthfall is only Earthfall because the first Yggy landed on Fall a long time ago. I'm not sure, but that would explain so many trees with eyeballs being everywhere. The last thing is the fact that they can uproot themselves to jump everywhere. A normal tree would die doing that. For the aliens, they're legs. So there you have it folks. Whispy Woods and his family are parasitic intergalactic nature Demigods. Now that you know, maybe you'll start to *leaf* them alone

Sonic Craft there's literally nothing for him to work on. They're just a generic boss in dreamland 3, and it's never explained why they were posessed by/ joined hyness
You forgot to speak about the main reason about him fighting Kirby in Kirby's Dreamland. He had to attack Kirby in order to prevent King Dedede to burn or destroy his forest. He is Dedede's lackey and do not really want to do evil things. You can find this information on during his battle in the pause screen from the first game, I guess.
