I am crying right now 🥺 I have been to Neurologist, physically therapy, brain scans, etc. I suggested that it might be Thoracic outlet syndrome and they told me no. The constant tingling, numbness, burning and sometimes weakness was so bad that I started getting depressed 😔 I just followed your routine and I feel 100th percent better. I am a hair stylist and photographer, so it's a double whammy. Thank you, thank you, thank you, you are the best 😭😭😭❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Me too!! I have an entire list of doctors and things I’ve tried. I brought up TOS TO MY NUERO, an ortho, anyone and they all said no. And made me feel super dumb!
@@christinabrownell I'm so sorry to hear that! I have dealt with neurogenic TOS for 8 years (played violin all my life) and FINALLY scheduled surgery for late this December. Keep trying and you will get recognized for your persistence!
8:10 Pro tip for the pec minor - if you don't have a yoga block, you can use a door frame with the trigger point ball, on each side. Essentially allowing you to lean past the frame into an open doorway.
I’m a therapist with 12 yrs exp everything he is saying is accurate. One thing I like to do that the patient hates is isolating the muscle with my fingers and gliding them down the muscles as the patient stretches in the opposite direction. It’s called active release technique and it works every time. Patient hates you for a few minutes but then loves you forever 24 hrs later. I always make them ice afterwards. They always request it if it flares up again.
How come people feel called to tell others their job and confirm what is accurate or not? Getting to know and knowing your body is a matter of living as/with/in it. People are able to figure out themselves what feels good. You do not need any diploma nor school to know all that.
@@warfreddy6968everyone gets old with their birth. That doesn't mean everyone experience physical pain or is doomed to be a certain way. It's a matter of self-care how you live your life.
Over a 100k spent at the doctors....and they NEVER even came up with what is wrong with me. I watcha video and Im dang near cured.. Thank you. I hate the medical field!!!
I'm a new TOS experiencer. I intuitively fashioned a routine that helped, cobbling together a bit here and there. Your comprehensive program is my go-to and I'm going to be doing this regularly. I've never felt pain like TOS, And I don't plan to let it happen ever again! Thanks so much!!
As soon as I grabbed that first neck muscle I started sobbing. Didn’t hurt but just a HUGE release of pressure and tension I’ve been holding for decades. That’s all I can stand for today but I’m going to work up to the full routine. Thank you
I’m a musician, composer, and music teacher. I’ve been suffering for the last four years from what I now believe to be TOS, which has severely affected my ability to do what I love. The exercises in this video are an incredible help. Thank you!
Im terrible with anything to do with music haha but I’m very happy to hear you are finding some relief, keep it up and let me know sometime in the future how its going!
Hi there, I’m a conductor as well and barely can use my left arm due to TOS. Do you have recommendations for sleeping positions, stretches exercises or massage?
I'm a musician, composer and teacher too but had to give up performing and most things due to TOS so I feel your pain! I was a professional musician but TOS has ruined my career...this guy really knows his stuff. If only I'd known about him years ago but better late than never. Keep positive and don't ever give up ❤
The story is longgg but let's just say that nothing and nobody helped until I randomly came across your video. You are a life saver! Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤
52 yrs. Being nagged by my family then myself as the curved in shoulders seems to be genetic. 23 yrs since a life altering car accident. Initial treatment @ one of worlds #1 hospitals and basically anyone and every one since. Never has anyone addressed this! Each muscle you addressed was literally hard as rock! Thank you so much! This is wonderful!
I want to take the time out to say thank you. I have been suffering from chronic pain since 2017. it started with a repetitive motion injury where i used my right arm to torque a part for 8 hours a day and something just popped and it shot up my head and i instantly started feeling numb on one side i went to the hospital. cut to this past week and i was never able to combat that pain. it was bad and i asked the lord to get me out of this and somehow after all these years i came accross your video. God is good and thank you for putting your content online for free
I have watched TONS of videos, seen chiropractors, had to leave my last job because I couldn’t lift boxes in my receiving department over the last year . I did a couple of your neck massages and this is the first time I’ve felt relief, and I finally feel like I have some hope. Thank you so much 😭
Don't give up, keep doing exercises stretches and use a heating pad to promote good blood flow. In addition to all this I've been hanging upside down using an inversion table. I've improved a lot but overuse and fatigue of the muscles brings back my symptoms especially when I sit hunched over at my desk, couple more weeks and I think it'll be gone for good
First, holy sh#t! When I tell you I feel 100% better after the massages, I am speaking nothing but the truth! After months of watching RUclips vids, going to a chiropractor and having acupuncture, this video alone has created such a sense of relief, instantly! This is the first video that popped up in my recommendations that specifically mentioned Thoratic Outlet Syndrome. I wasn’t sure if I should watch but I am glad I did! I work from home on a computer everyday and my neck issue has been giving me the blues since last year. Neither of my chiropractors have mentioned these massages first before stretching. I kinda feel that’s a no-brainer and probably my bad for not asking, but I just can’t get over the relief I’m feeling! Like someone else mentioned in the comments, I was beginning to get very depressed. I was experiencing brain fog, occasional double vision, tingling in my fingers and arms, and almost questioning if I was able to adequately take on my workload to any degree of success. I can go on but wow! This is such a relief! My only question is how often should the massages and stretched be done a day? It felt so good I wouldn’t mind doing it multiple times a day! Thank you again!
I’m soo happy to hear you’re finally getting relief! You can do the massages daily if you’re taking it easy. Be warned it might feel sore after, the same kind of feeling as working out hard. Keep it up! You’re in control of your health🦾
Omg this is actually helping! I've been in excruciating pain since sleeping funny before Christmas and am taking so many pain pills, but still in pain. I think this will help over several days.
I spend 12-15 hours a day hunched over my computer. Doctors suggested all kinds of things, but no one mentioned TOS. I came across it on the Internet, and now I stumbled across your video. Your stretches reach right where it hurts the most. Thank you so much for making this video.
Holy pain, I'm so tender I'm crying in the pec release....omg ...my nerve pain that started so I found u...the tightness w massage brought me to tears and took my breathe away....with feeling relief...I'm blown away Thank God I found u...I didn't know these tight muscles and trigger points existed Do we do this every day or 3 x a day also
lol. It’s that feel good pain! If youre sore tomorrow then skip a day if not then go easier then today so you dont over do it. I would take a break every other day at least if you’re not getting sore from it. I’m glad it’s helping!
My man! Thank you... I've been to the VA and I've expressed that my neck has been clicking, popping, and getting stuck around my throat for over a year now. I had an HNT exam with a scope down my throat just to make sure it wasn't cancer. I never even heard of this (TOS) and I've been researching Hodgkins Lymphoma syndromes due to my lack of confidence in my PC. I did this while watching and I felt instant relief and all the misalignment I've been feeling disappeared almost instantly. I will still keep with my due diligence and request my PC to send me to PT for this. Thank you!
I’m glad to hear that brotha. I was in a similar boat whenThe VA couldn’t help me so I had to figure it out on my own. Keep up your self care, it’s only real way to get pain free.
I can't thank you enough. I had a ski injury years ago that never really resolved to the point where recently the pain was affecting my performance as a ward nurse. You know it's bad when your patients say "is your neck bothering you?" In order to heal others we must heal ourselves first!
At 48, I can say with absolute certainty that my bad posture is catching up with me. These massages, stretches, and exercises are super helpful, subbed, thank you!
Thanks! Came from AsanaPranyamaMudraBandha, The movement is so simple and subtle, I couldnt fathom what it could actually mean, was annoyed there wasn't a picture/diagram, now I know why, so subtle you couldnt make a diagram showing it really
Ive been battling with tingling and numbness on my whole left arm down to the fingers. And the neck exercises gave me instant relief!! Ive seen alot of professionals to help me with this problem yet none talked about or even provided any info on releasing/relaxing my neck muscles... im super glad that I got lost and found your video! This helped me immensely!!
I’ve been experiencing this, TOS, since I joined the USMC in 2019. I sadly could not stay longer than my four years because this pain is unbearable. If I wasn’t myself, I could see myself becoming extremely depressed because not a single damn doctor even mentioned TOS, although I’m experiencing every single symptom you can imagine. I just finished this video and let me tell you, you @TrainandMassage are my angel through and through. I felt sensations across my chest and neck like it was my muscles finally waking up after being put to sleep for years!! Im going to play this video religiously and hope for the best, which i know will happen😊 If just one time doing these massages can make me feel almost brand new, man oh man I could almost cry typing this. THANK YOU ❤
I have been suffering with TOS for almost 3 years now I had no idea I even had it until I went in for wrist pain. I have gone through occupational therapy which helps but doesn’t last. I’m desperate and tired of being in so much pain. I was told my pregnancy most likely caused it. I feel like my ribs are being stabbed constantly. Hurts to sleep on my back and sides it’s miserable. Hopefully these exercises will help because doctors don’t want to spend the time to actually treat me. Instead I get told “ there’s nothing clinically wrong”.
I had bad TOS from an unstable bite due to poorly done orthodontics when I was a kid. Took years, had to get proper orthodontics and an orthotic Gelb appliance (basically a discrete retainer-like guard for my back teeth. Largely resolved TOS. Just mention this in case others are struggling, it didn't occur to me that it was my bite for years.
By far BEST TOS video in existence. Thank you Thank you Thank you! I can’t wait to start implementing this daily & improve! I was completely unaware of the necessity of self-massage prior to stretching….no wonder my TOS has been a problem for 9 years. I’m filled with hope now 😀 thank you again!
This is insane, I've had this issue come and go as I do boxing, and tend to be overusing it due to naturally the tensing up and posture issues as mentioned, my primary care was confused for a while and disregarded it, I did get some exercises to deal with it but it would keep coming back and they would not feel as effective. This is one of the most effective exercises, and it works amazinly, thank you so much!
I had TOS surgery about a year ago. still get symptoms in the hand down the arm and towards collorbone. I had the first rib removed for the procedure. out of all of the exercises and post TOS surgery things I was told to do, this method with stretching the neck has helped the most! thankyou sir!
First off, I’m very sorry you had to go through all of that. It sounds horrible. 2nd, I’m very happy to hear you are finally greeting some good relief! Keep it up!
If you I had the rib removed why are your nerves still impinged? Asking for a friend who is considering the surgery as the physio program isn't really working.
@@cloudkaiwiz just saw this now, cheers! Did you receive any recommendations regarding the very likely possibility of an imbalance created by the absence of the rib on one side?
Rhankyou Jesus my pain is relieved almost instantly. Im a special needs nurse for children and i do alot of lifting. I love my job but i was starting to fear that i may need ro stop for a while. I know God led me to your video. I thaught i had some kind of blood flow issue but i knew it was related to all the lifting i do. Thankyou she much
Amazing! I have had this problem for over 30 years and have been to many different Doctors, Physio and Chiropractors with little to no relief. After watching your video and following your recommendations; I am amazed at the results, thank you for bringing back my pain free mobility!
amazing bro.. i train since im 6 years old and no one ever showed me this trick. im now 36 and wasted my life in pain and could never concentrate after hard workouts
My physio therapist and my massage therapist both discouraged me from doing these kind of massages on the neck because they were afraid that I‘ts gonna damage the nerves. I think they were just cautious but it does not help me. Thanks for confirming that what I‘m intuitively doing is actually good for me!!! Love this❤
I’m sorry your massage therapist or pt isn’t confident enough to work your neck. Just start slow and work your way up to a little more pressure. And if you hit a nerve, then simply move over and try again. It’s not a big deal. You got this.🦾🫡
Right on…good for you. Oh how many times have I been proven to be right by listening to my intuition and the “experts” wrong, sometimes to the point of damaging me. Always trust your gut!! 💜
I’m a veteran with a thoracic spinal cord injury and I had severe thoracic outlet syndrome as a consequential result in the mechanism of injury that broke my back and damaged the chord. I had left and right front and back top ribs removed to create space ad relieve pressure, the result was immediate feeling returning to arms hands no more head aches tension and spasms, have not had an issue since.
You do an excellent job talking to camera. You don’t need the background music. Also, when you say ‘th me the video in the right hand corner’ there should be a video
Awesome video! I self diagnosed myself w/ TOS when i started having numbness on my left arm. I did all the special test to clear it! Had awesome release from my boss today and came across your video today. Totally agree w/ myofascial release first before lengthening and strengthening exercises. :)
spent thousands on MRIs and x-rays, thinking it was spine issue or anything. Mostly til that it waa due to cervical issue, which I still find myself scratching my heas how. Anyways really helped. I finally understood why my chirO stresses so much on posture balance.
yooo... why are your massages so helpful.. I just literally had a cold shoulder and peck, and doing these instantly made me relieved even tho i need to contiue the stretches for weeks, but I felt like crying a little bit because the pain everywhere went away for about a few seconds. you have soemthing and I hope a lot of people with TOS can find this video please. I am going to get PT and I have a mri next weeek and a chiro app next week. thank you a lot
Both of my arms and hands were numb and tingling, I followed along with the video and with the first technique the numbness and tingling immediately left!
The way you show the muscle diagrams over the part of the body is really helpful in visualising how to pinpoint it. You are helping so many people with a lot of pain and restriction in their daily lives. Would using vibrating equipment e.g. gardening power tools daily have any correlation with TOS?
Thank you for the comment, I truly appreciate it! I believe it would be more your body and arm position during work that contributes to it rather than the specific work itself. Sadly its not avoidable unless you learn how to garden behind you back haha.
I was getting worried as the pain was bad. I didn’t want to go to a doctor, etc., as I was pretty sure I knew it was tos. Diagnosed 40 years ago after a roll over car accident where I found a chiropractor who did pressure point massage and heat which allowed me to return to my life. After rotator cuff surgery 20 years ago and a dislocation after slipping on ice four years ago (all happened to the right shoulder), I thought perhaps they were both coming back to haunt me at 68 years old. I then started to have the old tos pain that happened off and on through the years but not like lately, but I did yoga daily for over 30 years which probably kept tos at bay. Thank so much for this video. I started yesterday, and I cannot believe how the pain that was all over the shoulder and arm is almost nonexistent. Just knowing what it is has reduced the anxiety of worrying and not knowing what was going on. Thank you, thank you so much.
Awesome brother! I have been instinctively working these areas and this was confirmation im on the right track. (Age 55, able to do lots of physical stuff and i live for outdoors) I think people jump to surgery way too fast, potentially complicating things, instead of reversing the causes. A lot is within our ability to improve, for free, and at home. Of course, i couldn't remove my own appendix so grateful there were very fine surgeons for that : ) Thanks for the great info! Be well !
This is such a good video. ❤ I have had vascular and neuro thoracic syndrome for 20 years. Chronic migraines and back neck and shoulder pain. Debilitating life-changing not able to work related to a Work injury ( lifted a patient up from a toilet with my arm under theirs. Took all 160lbs of her) they also found an extra c7 rib didn’t help compression. had first rib removed and. My SCM for vascular TOS and severe swelling and nerve pain. . Never able to go back to work. Recently got into Pilates and yoga, which has completely transformed my body. No more migraines of debilitating pain!!!!! But my massage therapist just said that my pec minor was tight and that my scapula was winging up. This information could not come at a better time. Excellent info. I found you by a Pec Minor stretch. THANK YOU ❤ WHY are PT and Kins not doing this for RTW therapy. I was forced to go to daily PT 5 days a week and they brutalized me with NO relief at all. I truly wish people knew this info. ❤
Please could you do a video on sleeping positions to help alleviate severe pain and numbness in the arms and hands? I can't sleep at night as pain becomes excruciating with swelling of fingers and usual TOS symptoms. I will follow your plan too. Great videos from someone who seems to know what it's all about!
Gold. I have been in more or less constant discomfort with neck and shoulders for 20 years. Have watched 100's of physical therapy videos and videos about other forms of treatment, had tried massage, and osteopathy on many occasions, and nothing I tried really worked. After 10 minutes I have a new sensation in my neck and shoulders and as a consequence, hope for the future. Can't thank you enough. By the way had never heard of TOS, but had come across trigger points and myofacial adhesions, but never had anyone explained the points about manipulating the facia, followed by the correct approach to stretching, then strengthening the balancing muscles, which I must say brings together these 3 approaches into a logical sequence. I've seen proof of the first two within minutes. I've wasted so much time fighting this pain by pulling at it and getting nowhere, but at least I know the way forward
How common is this? Why has none of the physiotherapists and doctors I have been to never ever said anything about it to me? This is the pain I have been living with for at least 10 years and without realising it, I had been doing some of the massaging techniques you describes myself. It was the only stuff that helped relieve some of the discomfort and pain. I have ever had a full body scan done, including bone scan, because the doctors could not figure out what was causing my pain. So upset now about the lost time and resources :/
I feel you on that. I had similar issues with hip and back pain and just bounced around from Dr to Dr. My theory is that massage isn't looked at (yet) as an alternative to PT. Until that happens, I hope these videos are able to help you out in the meantime.
In both deltoids I have a hard lump, like a lot of tension, it's as if something impeded the flow of my muscle, the doctors say it's not important, but sometimes when I pronounce certain words or speak fast my right deltoid hurts
I don't quite buy the explanations of why these massages work, but I felt an undeniable relief after finding nerves in my neck that referred pain to my back when I pushed on them and then massaging those nerves. Very interesting.
I have chronic Lyme, Fibromyalgia, Hashimotos and a host of other autoimmune diseases. There were several knots I found in the muscles going up the side of my neck and working that area was difficult because it's like stone. Under the clavicle there was a clicking with every movement. Personally the diseases are one thing, but I believe trauma was a bigger evil for me. When I was 18 I had a chiropractor tell me I carried all my stress in my muscles. I am now 48. Thank you so much. Just in the tiny bit of massage I did as practice with this video, I already feel relief I have never felt before. Years of seeing drs. Years of physical therapy and also chiropractic.
Thank you so much 🙏. I’ve been miserable for a week and this is just what I needed! Did a little while watching and can tell it’s going to be a relief to practice this therapy daily. So appreciate this info!!
My neck pain is so bad. I tried everything. When I massage these muscles I felt like the muscles were under other muscles. I told my chiropracter and he said that wasn't the problem! It's so bad that my head shakes cnstantly. Ive even seen a few Nuerologist. GLAD I FOUND YOU....FINALLTY!
Fantastic video, very few others address the scalenes, subclavius, and pec minor. I had what was suspected to be TOS a couple of years ago, which presented as constant pain on the edge of my scap, and pain/tingling down my arm into my fingers. My massage therapist originally started on the infraspinatus, but then suggested the scalenes which were, in his words, "like piano wires" 🙂. I stay on top of it now with self myofascial release and do my own cupping.
@Carol Moore Ya, sadly, I learned about this other stuff through other methods besides massage school. being a trainer, yoga instructor, etc. I have been able to see how to treat the same problem through different lenses and it has helped me see the bigger pattern.. in my opinion.
Physiotherapist here, i highly appreciate this content coz it can change the life of ppl with chronic pain related to TOS. Please take this as constructive criticism, I am missing the mentioning of Contraidications, especially with techniques that close to A.Carotis. Anyways, great content!
Best advice so far ..hands down...im just having a hard time self messaging my neck...I feel like im not doing it right...but atleast its a step in the right direction!.... Thanks!
@@TrainandMassage well theres a super tender spot on my neck, that always feels like the muscle is being pulled...seems always tight and inflammed... so im not sure if I massage that spot is a good thing...seems to agitate it ..and make it worse..its so weird...i had this for over 2 years..and I can't seem to get rid of it.. really annoying..but I really think it comes from a tight chest..and behind the clavical seems very messed up.. im a bodybuilder..and train 6 days a week...very intense too... its the only thing that keeps me sane.. you think the peck muscle thats tight can cause my neck to be messed up?
tight muscles creating pain isnt normal. Try holding that tension and paying attention the pain. See if it gets worse or better. It is very possible to get worse before it gets better. it could take 30s up to 2 minutes. and It might take multiple attempts to get it to release. A tight chest can pull the clavicle down, which in turn pulls the neck forward. So it might be a reason for it. It might also be the subclavius or the suboccipital creating more tension. My TOS Challenge addresses a lot of these issues and teach you how to properly release them.
@@TrainandMassage thanks man..i'll keep working at it..im finding some tender spots in the neck..ill try to keep massaging them..and see if it helps... at least i know that its ok if it hurts...im always paranoid in making it worse...
Thanks just did this and i felt a lot better, the numbness and tingling almost completely disappeared in an instant i been going 4 weeks to physical therapy and just found this cause i was searching for a routine to do for the holiday break 🎉
YOU, Sir, are a MIRACLE WORKER!! I have Ben suffering with acute symptoms since a bad massage 10 weeks ago created massive neuropathy - no doubt just the finishing touch to bad posture and tightness. I had recently (last three days) fallen into some self massage in exactly the areas you are recommending, and have magically gotten relief. I will implement your more precise prescription . Thank you!!!!
I have had pain for 21 years. After a disc colapsed. In my neck. I started pulling my head in a strange posision to avoid the worst pain. I did that for over 21 years. I looked for help. Nobody understood. I looked on internet and understood it was TOS. Finally found you. My streching have not been sucsessful. I will seriosly do what you rekommed. Massage first. I am hopeful. And I start today my new treatment. Thank you ❤
Well explained love it. I feel like i have hope now! Just a quick question. Not sure i have TOS but all the symptoms that you have mentioned i have! I have knots on my scalene muscles and clicking neck and shoulders. Left side more painful than right. Clicking occurs mostly when lifting arms up/down or any movement involving shoulders. Also neck clicking occurs frequently. Really have a bad urge to crack neck most of the time. Can these symptoms occur with TOS? Any input/guidance appreciated…many thanks 👍🏽
Thank you! The pain from this is just so debilitating some days! Been to probably 10 chiropractors over 3 decades and all are clueless. It's so frustrating trying to get "professionals" 😒 to actually diagnose you correctly and provide solutions. Any idea why so many with this condition are being failed by the "medical" community? Thanks again. ❤️
I'm glad you found this video helpful. My guess on why the medical community isn't effective is because doctors wont look outside their scope of practice. Plus I've seen plenty of doctors dismiss massage as a legit source for pain relief. With all that said, there are good doctor out there, they are just rare.
I totally agree. I've had mone for decades and just get dismissed or told it's mind over matter. I've never found a specialist in this field, hence why 30 years on, I have disabling pain and xant function. Even brushing my hair is a challenge.
There's typically no insurance reimbursement for massage. Medical "professionals" are all too often at the beck and call of insurance companies, they let the insurance idiots decide which treatments are allowed. There's a lot more money to be be made from surgical interventions.
Best video addressing TOS that I have found out there. I have been dealing with TOS pain for 17 months, but only discovered it's TOS a month ago after a consult with my surgeon for an ulnar nerve decompression. I've had a swollen lump at my collarbone this entire time. Reading more, I discovered a correlation between TOS and median/ulnar nerve compression (they call it a double crush syndrome). My EMG showed a severe lesion at my elbow, motor loss, sensory loss, muscle wasting, and mild carpal tunnel. I truly believe it all stems from the TOS compression. Vascular TOS was negative thank goodness. These self-massaging exercises are spot on. The stretches just hurt right now. I'll be trying these for sure!!! Thank you for creating this video.
I've been doing SCM stretches every day for 6 months with a teeny bit of help. And on top of that getting massages weekly (feels a bit better for a day or two.) BUT YOUR treatment for TOS has REALLY helped me (and left those muscles sore! lol). Thanks so much. I think I'm on to something now!
Yes, you're right on point with all those muscles that trigger so much pain. But my problem isn't bad posture, though I could always work on that. My problem was a seat belt impact from a car accident years ago, and there's so many more muscles that also hurt. What I'm trying to figure out is, if my "tennis elbow" pain (also from repetitive grocery job and ceramic art) will dissipate by stretching these muscle groups and doing strengthening exercises?? I'm gotta admit the pain doesn't inspire me to exercise right now, but I do want to stay strong to do ceramics for many years. Any information is welcome. Thank you for putting out these videos.
Love how you talked about the separating the tissues and massage first. I did notice a difference when I did that first. I’ve had dorsal scap nerve damage for years and now of course ToS and CostoChondritis thanks for this!
It took me 2 years the work out the problem. Numbness, pins and needles in my arms and hands. Constantly uncomfortable. Finally after multiple doctors knowing nothing, my osteopath worked out the problem and i had the surgery. CBD oil ended up helping a lot in the end, also neck and shoulder stretching and points of this video. Very helpful
Thank you so much ,I been going to the dr for years and they are so dumb They been taking my money and never fixing me Watching your videos I feel a lot better Thank you so much for helping me The pain I go through
Thank you! My scalenes(really knotty), scm, subclavius, and pec minor on my left side were brutal to massage. I can actually move my neck and shoulders freely now! Will keep releasing these areas, stretching, and strengthening so I can create permanent change!
Hey guys, is it normal to get intense tingling down the arm while you’re massaging these areas. (For me it’s the scalenes and subclavian) I just don’t know if I’m overdoing it or it’s to be expected? It forces me to take a break because of how intense it is.
Im glad to hear that. It usually is a little painful in the beginning but it feels so much better right after. Keep it up and take it slow. you got this!@@kcmeyer88
This is crazy. I had a PT at work diagnose me because I had such bad shoulder pain I thought I had something seriously wrong. She freaked out because when I put my arms above my head, I had no pulse in my wrists. She diagnosed me with TOS but when I looked up what to do, like you said, everything was just stretches that did nothing. I did the first massage on here and felt an instant release.
Thank you for this video and your others. Amazed, it makes so much sense as I've been working at correcting my neck hump and rounded shoulders for quite some time now. This is wonderful to be able to feel a differance quickly. I'm 63 and I just can't thank you enough
Wow! Great relief. Woke up with worsened Cervical spondylosis symptoms and needed some stretches to help relief symptoms and found this. Felt so much relaxed afterwards and sleepy too - bonus. Thank you so much. You've made my life better today.
WOW, I’ve spent many dineros in PT for TOS with little results. I began using these stretches and massage and it work wonders loosening these tight muscles and relieving the pain. Thank, thank you‼️
Thank you so much Adam, i am eternally grateful to you brother. 21 years of constant pain and crackling in my neck every time i turn right associated with continuous nasty headaches on a daily basis, lethargy, brain fog, forgetfulness and a prominent 24/7 vein on my right temporal area. I might have an Atlas problem but your technique really brought a unmatched relief of the pain. I began rubbing heated castor oil ( throw some salt and some olive oil) To break up the deep adhesions and fascia restrictions , ⚠️ This is very vital for you guys. Thank you so much Adam, may Allah bless you ❤🤲🏻.
Lololol @ 8:07 Thanks for that bit of humor. This popped up for me even though I’ve been searching hip/groin stuff like crazy. Had a couple years of TOS hell, back in 2015, and it’s really a miracle I haven’t had a bad relapse. This showed up to remind me! One of those massage tricks I’ve always done instinctively so that’s cool. Thanks for this info!!!!
5 year TOS sufferer and looking forward to starting your routines as soon as I'm done typing this! I have a couple of questions. (1) Which posture brace would you recommend? I'm not a spring chicken and need as much help as I can correcting my lifetime of poor posture. 2) I get great relief when I get migraines from massaging and pressing down on my upper trapezius. Can you recommend some self massage techniques?
I really do hope it helps! There's also a program in the description for a TOS challenge on sale right now. If this is helpful then you might want to consider it. 1. Not a fan of posture braces so I can't recommended one. Sorry 2. Try this video for the traps. What you're describing is a common trigger point issue. Great great stuff man. It's funny how we in this thread have had such similar experiences with doctors ignoring TOS or blowing it off. Such limitation thinking in the medical model. I feel better after doing these exercises on the restricted side. My main symptom is breathing problems that have worsened over the last 17 years. I have such difficulty getting breath INTO my lungs and 4 specialists later and no one has a clue. Truth is always SIMPLE THANKS ADAM! You the bomb!
Thank you so much and sorry about your lungs. I would poke around your scalenes, subclavius, and chest (both sides) of the body to see if that helps with breathing,. you can also work on your diaphragm by massaging under the ribs.
@@TrainandMassage it's all an education for me, tough tough days with the breathing but I've definitely grown from it so I'm not bitching....Thanks again so much for your guidance I will follow your advice for the scalenes and subclavius and massage under ribs. THANKS SO MUCH!
I definitely have this problem. Lots of pain in these areas, and trigger point about halfway up my neck on the right side. I think this has also resulted in TMJ and extreme tightness between my eye and ear on the same side. What are some techniques to relieve facial muscle tightness/pain and how can I find and address the underlying issue?
One thing I notice is people don’t hold the pressure long enough to relieve pain in the head. Find a tender spot within the muscle and hold that pressure until the pain goes away. I’m coming out with a video in 2 weeks addressing headaches so it should be right up your alley.
The scalenes are not overactive in Thoracic Outlet Syndrome they are UNDER worked and weak. What is overactive are the upper traps, and the pec minor which doesn't allow the scapula to sit correctly. This results in the pinching of the thoracic outlet between the first rib. The other muscles that need strengthened are the lower traps and the serratus anterior. You can do your own research on this as their are multiple scientific papers published using EMGs. Edit: I’ve done further research and found that the scalenes are possibly indeed overactive.
As a massage therapist, I have helped many people who had tos by only releasing the scalenes. That same nerve that gets pinched in tos can also get pinched there.
You are partially correct..Overactive scalenes are a real thing. Mine are enlarged, verified by ultrasound and pressing on my brachial plexus on both sides of my neck. Coughing, sneezing, having to speak loudly only exacerbates them. Using these muscles to breathe as opposed to the diaphragm can result in this, as it did for me (anxiety & stress also cause us to breathe shallow using these muscles ). With this, the scalenes do tighten and the anterior and middle scalenes pull the first rib up toward the clavicle while the poor posture causes the clavicle to drop sandwiching the nerves, vessels & arteries from the brachial bundle that run between them. But, yes, strengthening rhomboids, lower traps and serratus anterior definitely needed for me as well as keeping the rib cage and scapula mobile and gliding. My 2 EMGs showed nothing, but trapped ulnar nerve at the elbows. TOS does not have a one size fits all treatment approach, but I am definitely using the massage techniques shown here before stretching now. Appreciate this video!
@@lvanpelt1685 This is strange as a lot of my research has contradicted this. However, the enlargement of a muscle could surely cause the same issues a tight weakened muscle so it makes sense logically. Glad to hear about other causes of TOS to open my mind a bit.
@@TOSUnbound I’ve learned TOS is not all that cut & dry. It’s nice to be able to help each other. I was also checked to see if I had an extra rib. Not the case.. My physical therapist does manual therapy and when she gets my hips and pelvis straight & loosened up, it helps relieve tension in my rib cage, which in turn helps my upper back and neck relax. If one area is missed I don’t get the same benefits. It can be pretty individualized as far as treatments go. Just have to try different things and see what sticks. I use some of the techniques on the Muscle mind worx channel also.

8:10 Pro tip for the pec minor - if you don't have a yoga block, you can use a door frame with the trigger point ball, on each side. Essentially allowing you to lean past the frame into an open doorway.
Great tip!
Exactly what I was gonna do as soon as he showed this move since I don’t have a yoga block 😎
Thank you! Keep up your great work! 🦾🫡

His line about getting old just being bad posture catching up with you really hurts.
How come people feel called to tell others their job and confirm what is accurate or not? Getting to know and knowing your body is a matter of living as/with/in it. People are able to figure out themselves what feels good. You do not need any diploma nor school to know all that.

I have watched TONS of videos, seen chiropractors, had to leave my last job because I couldn’t lift boxes in my receiving department over the last year . I did a couple of your neck massages and this is the first time I’ve felt relief, and I finally feel like I have some hope. Thank you so much 😭
Im happy to hear you are seeing some relief now! Keep it up!
I lost my job to TOS also. I couldn’t keep up, I’ve had to cut back my life dramatically. Have you considered surgery?
Don't give up, keep doing exercises stretches and use a heating pad to promote good blood flow. In addition to all this I've been hanging upside down using an inversion table. I've improved a lot but overuse and fatigue of the muscles brings back my symptoms especially when I sit hunched over at my desk, couple more weeks and I think it'll be gone for good
@@johnames6430 how did things go?
Absolutely agree! It isn't age that creates pain, it's bad posture (and neglect) catching up with us!

Thank you!

As a veteran myself, I’m very happy to hear it’s helping you. Keep up your self care.
I hope this is able to help! Take it easy in the beginning because it will most likely be painful and tender.

Sadly its not avoidable unless you learn how to garden behind you back haha.
my father got TOS from using vibrant equipment (I don't know the name of the tool), but I know he had his hands down, so it is possible

Of course, i couldn't remove my own appendix so grateful there were very fine surgeons for that : )

I’m sorry to hear about your past but now hopefully you have a way forward! Keep up your self care and thank you for your support! 🦾🫡
Best video ever for TOS!!! 8 years of horrendous suffering 😣
Thank you! I hope it helps!
This guy is ABSOLUTE GOLD!❤ Listen to relieve PAIN!
Thank you so much Nancy!
You are a genius 👏 All the exercises for thoracic syndrome only worked when I followed this massage, got huge relief.
I am so happy to hear that! Keep it up!
Im glad you're finding the content useful! Keep it up!
Thank you so much 🙏. I’ve been miserable for a week and this is just what I needed! Did a little while watching and can tell it’s going to be a relief to practice this therapy daily. So appreciate this info!!
I’m so happy to hear that. Keep it up!🦾🫡
My neck pain is so bad.
I hope you’re able to find some relief! Keep going! 🦾🫡
Glad it was helpful! Most people (and massage therapists) ignore the front of the body. It’s crazy to me but hey, what can you do?
@Carol Moore Ya, sadly, I learned about this other stuff through other methods besides massage school. being a trainer, yoga instructor, etc. I have been able to see how to treat the same problem through different lenses and it has helped me see the bigger pattern.. in my opinion.
Physiotherapist here, i highly appreciate this content coz it can change the life of ppl with chronic pain related to TOS. Please take this as constructive criticism, I am missing the mentioning of Contraidications, especially with techniques that close to A.Carotis. Anyways, great content!
Very fair point, I appreciate it. I'll try to mention that more and more. Thank you for your support!
Best advice so far ..hands down...im just having a hard time self messaging my neck...I feel like im not doing it right...but atleast its a step in the right direction!.... Thanks!
Thank you, I appreciate it! Why do you think you’re not massaging them right?
@@tankconnors7323 Def keep working at it. muscles shouldnt be tender.
Thanks just did this and i felt a lot better, the numbness and tingling almost completely disappeared in an instant i been going 4 weeks to physical therapy and just found this cause i was searching for a routine to do for the holiday break 🎉
Thank you so much Monica! I truly appreciate that and I’m glad you found relief after a single session. Keep it up and thank you for your support 🫡🦾
Thank you. I’m very excited to see other people getting these results!
The knots can most likely create a lot of those issues. Definitely try to massage those out!
@Carol Moore Thank you so much. I do find most people think of massage as beneath, but thats what Im here to change. Thank you for your support!
I do hope this video helps. Double crush syndrome might also be tightness in the pecs, subclavius, and scalenes. Make sure to work those!
I'm so happy to hear that! keep up your self care!
I would try the massages out and see what happens. You can also try massaging the muscles around the elbow.
Love how you talked about the separating the tissues and massage first. I did notice a difference when I did that first. I’ve had dorsal scap nerve damage for years and now of course ToS and CostoChondritis thanks for this!
Thank you for the compliment! The bodies connected and hopefully working on one will help the other.
@@TrainandMassage thx! It’s been 20 years. I’ve been thru tons of therapy. Hopefully this will help long term with the other exercises for the back.
Next week is going to be a great video for tos and other issues, I’m excited for it. Make sure to be there!
@@TrainandMassage sure will!
I have both also what worked for you ?
It took me 2 years the work out the problem. Numbness, pins and needles in my arms and hands. Constantly uncomfortable.
Finally after multiple doctors knowing nothing, my osteopath worked out the problem and i had the surgery.
CBD oil ended up helping a lot in the end, also neck and shoulder stretching and points of this video.
Very helpful
Hey
dr told me of surgery, but I m afraid of surgery. How was Yr recovery time???
I've been having this pain for over a year. THANK YOU ❤️ it really means a lot for me to finally sleep without pain, thank you very much.
Thank you! I’m so happy to hear that you’re finally able to sleep. Keep it up!
Thank you so much ,I been going to the dr for years and they are so dumb
They been taking my money and never fixing me
Watching your videos I feel a lot better
Thank you so much for helping me
The pain I go through
I’m happy to hear it’s helping! Keep it up!
Thank you! My scalenes(really knotty), scm, subclavius, and pec minor on my left side were brutal to massage. I can actually move my neck and shoulders freely now! Will keep releasing these areas, stretching, and strengthening so I can create permanent change!
Hell ya! I’m glad it’s helping! Keep it up!🦾
Hey guys, is it normal to get intense tingling down the arm while you’re massaging these areas. (For me it’s the scalenes and subclavian) I just don’t know if I’m overdoing it or it’s to be expected? It forces me to take a break because of how intense it is.
try again but go at it with a gentle hand. It could be normal feeling tingling in the beginning.

Ok thank you! And thank you for putting this video together. I’m definitely finding some relief after only a few days. May God bless you sir! 🙏🏻
I did the first massage on here and felt an instant release.
lol, glad to hear it. Keep it up and maybe expect some soreness for the next few days.
Thank you for this video and your others. Amazed, it makes so much sense as I've been working at correcting my neck hump and rounded shoulders for quite some time now. This is wonderful to be able to feel a differance quickly. I'm 63 and I just can't thank you enough
That’s awesome you’re already seeing results! Keep it up! 🦾
Wow! Great relief. Woke up with worsened Cervical spondylosis symptoms and needed some stretches to help relief symptoms and found this. Felt so much relaxed afterwards and sleepy too - bonus. Thank you so much. You've made my life better today.
"as you get older, it's your posture finally catching up"....exactly this! thank you for this video
You’re welcome. I hope it helps!
WOW, I’ve spent many dineros in PT for TOS with little results. I began using these stretches and massage and it work wonders loosening these tight muscles and relieving the pain. Thank, thank you‼️

Awesome, man! Thank you for this video.
No problem. I hope it helps!
I hope this is what I’ve been searching for
Thank you so much Adam, i am eternally grateful to you brother.
I began rubbing heated castor oil ( throw some salt and some olive oil)

Thanks for that bit of humor.
You're so welcome! thank you for your support!
Sorry
2. Try this video for the traps. What you're describing is a common trigger point issue. (this doesn't mean it cant be something else though) ruclips.net/video/ilFAgUeXHeo/видео.html
@@gonzalolever5569 No problem, I hope it helps.
@@TrainandMassage looking forward to the headache video!
this is it
this made the pain lessen
I'm practically in tears
i feel like i have some mobility back
