Great talking to you this morning mick thanks for taking the time and your advice helped no end cheers
Grateful for the valuable life lesson: “If it can’t be fixed with tie rips and gaffe tape, you’re not using enough tie rips and gaffe tape.”

Stuff gaffa tape, flash band offers superior moisture resistance!
You have just done our boat the hillberry done a cracking job many thanks Mick cheers 👌
Today or yesterday? I tend not to take note of the names 😆
Good to see a professional using a dry dock and sand blasting the rust and barnacles away on the ground.
👌👍
It so satisfying watching a sand blaster in action, keep up the great work!!
Thx mate it's appreciated 👍💞
This is a new way for me to gonzoogle! Love it!
Just a tip mate when you replace the nozzle holder put a smear of silicone on the hose before fitting it will help with the seal, a lot of the problem comes from the screws that can just puncture through the hose & form a hole. I have had the media cut right through the hose & the plastic. But I do use Garnet, somewhat more aggressive on the equipment..
Yeah when changing the nozzle holders I normally use swafeega on the pipe on this job I swapped the full pipe for the spare on the van 😂 luck would have it I had a spare 40m pipe sitting in van. Very lucky that day or I would have had to cut and move holders not something I want to be doing with limited hand tools 😂
Great blasting all that paint off always found this sort of stuff interesting would love to have a go of it as well
Thx it's appreciated 💞
I can remember doing similar to an old cottage in sussex all the external walls had been painted over..... beutiful face bricks and flint stones looked a million dollars all cleaned and re pointed after days of work...... single tool compressor road tow big pressure pot and a head mask with shoulder protection so so heavy and giant gloves and an air line respiration thing......
thats the 1 but I use a 4 tool compressor just for the more flow = more doh thing :)
iv been blasting for years and enjoyed it and love it, best thing when you fire up no one bugs you lol,
Any chance you could do a video on the equipment you use, your full setup and what you would improve/upgrade, love the videos
Thanks its appreciated, Unfortunately something I cannot show at the moment my pot is my own build and waiting to get it protected so I can eventually put it on the market for sale 😁

If you ever hand the unpleasant job of needle gunning a row of steel columns for hours on end you’ll appreciate this blasting method .Very enjoyable & satisfying to watch I say.Who gets the lovely job of cleaning the used media up off the yard floor ?
Thx glad you enjoyed the video. Needle guns are very hard work 😂 I've used them before. Clean up is mostly down to me but some jobs the customer is happy to save a few quid and sweep up after me 👍
Ewwwwwwww I love it! This is great! 🖤
How strangely satisfying
“Ey up what’s happening ere?” Yorkshire born and bread 💪🏼🙂
“Save that just in case” typical Yorkshireman 😅🤗
Haha ya niva no when it el come in handy 🤣
@mick when you have a blockage in your hose and it starts to whistle fold the hose while under pressure it shoots air back in the last pot 2 thinks happen one your hose is getting freed up and two the cone in your blast pot is getting dislodged as well and blast media will fall down and you start blasting again till your pot is empty
Yeah I try not to use this because I have a valve I can shut and open the grit at my finger tips this tungsten plunger smashes the clog and reopened under my control on my older pots this would work perfect but doing it with this is pushing air back past a 1 way valve under normal load. Also check my latest video on the green wagon towards the end watch my pipe bleb this is from doing just that 😂
What also works if you have another man drop the choke leaver when your blasting for 1 or 3 seconds this diverts more air into the pot pushing the crap down and out that's the most effective way but means paying another wage 😔
Fascinating. Mesmerising.
😎👍👌
Be so rewarding take all rusted and paint off great job 👍

👋🏻🧔♂️🇺🇸, 👍🏻👀🎥, so could you pressure wash to remove lager loose stuff then sand blast to save media?
Could do but to be fair it wouldn't really make much difference 👌
What mediums are u using mick when i did blasting on the wagons etc i used like a metal filling compound it was disposable stuff . Came from machine shops . It wasnt bad stuff it had bn dried but u still got damper stuff amongst it from the cooling fluids used during the milling process it certainly took the crap of . But wore out nozzles quickly . It left a nice surface to paint . The first etch coats just dissapeared into the metal . Prefer power washing to the blasting hated wearing the helmet . . Love watchin ur vids . Like i say itts great seeing the finnished result .
Thx it's appreciated 👌💞 and I use crushed glass on 99% of my work 👍
Hi Mick' I have a sand blasting kit it works great but I was told not to use sand but other types of media.
I have a sandblasting cabinet I built myself it does the likes of 2 - 3 - 4 Cyl engines I am using glass media. Is it sand you are using. Tom Ayr.
In the UK sand has been banned since the 70s for use of blasting due to the free silica init I mainly use recycled materials such as crushed glass 👍
Interesting job.
Thank you! Cheers!
You sound like Carl Pilkington....but funnier 😁
I dunno about that haha :)

Wow I would watch fires ya need a camera on ya lid start a channel haha

Nice job
Thx it's appreciated 👌💞
Do you have to sweep up after you have sandblasted and can the sand be reused.
At this boat yard I don't have to result haha the media can be reused but for the speed aspect of things I don't I use fresh every fill that way I know I'm getting a uniformed finishes as the 2nd time through the pot the media tends to brake down and get smaller
Is the scale from dirty metal..in the foundry?
No I believe its heat and the outer layer cooling quicker than the rest but I could be wrong
First time seeing a narrow boat sand blasted instead of power washed. Boat would be like new taking down to the steel then repainting.
Glad you enjoyed it please have a snoop through my other videos you may like them too regards Mick
Top Job chap 🤘
Thanks glad you enjoyed it 👌
Just come across your vid Mick it brings back a lot of memories from when I used to sand blast stuff. I started after getting made redundant and my father in law had all the gear but had just been diagnosed with sarcoidosis of the lungs . ( being a farmer he always had bad lungs ! ) So he said I could have his gear and carry on . So started doing stuff on farm with old ingersoll rand vane type 175 cfm compressor and old swedish egg timer blast pot 😅 he'd been using sand straight from Rainfords sand winning plant on s'port coast so it'd rotted the inside of pot real bad. I was blasting an old trailer one day when I heard a big POP ! The bloody pot split in 2 😲😮 right round the mid section 😅🤣😂 Anyway I decidef to invest in a new robsons 2 bagger and carry on. THEN THE damn compressor started pushing oil through in air so that was that with that compressor too !! SO I shopped around and eventually found an atlas copco 250cfm with 600hrs on it so I did it up serviced it and changed tyres and brake cable and was back blasting. I really enjoyed it and bought new lines new air lines a secondary moisture capture pot and new gear (hodge clemco helmet @ppollo, and air breathing filter and new overalls and gaiters and a load of 1/2" nozzles, carbide ones. I found it very therapeutic and in a funny way calming. 🤔 wish I'd have carried on with it but no fun all that downtime in winter when weather was sh1t 😅🤣 I'll subscribe and keep watching bud 👍 oh and make sure your compressor is well up wind of your blasting amazing how quick you learn that one 😅🤣😅🤣 Steve. 👍
😎👌👍 hopefully I can bring back some good memories👌 I've plenty of videos uploaded to have a sift through. And yeah when service kit is 180 just for 2 air filters ya learn real quick to keep the compressor well out of the way 😂
there are different grits of media all over the world. for this job what grit did you use? 70/100 or 40/70?
Crushed glass fine + I don't reuse media so a soft media that brakes up after 1 pass is perfect for me :)
Grateful for the valuable life lesson:
😂 👍
A British worker at his best. Kenny
😎👌
Hard Graft well done son 👏
😊👍👌
How did you get into doing this sort of mid-sized sand blasting work professionally?
I have a video on my channel how I got into blasting 👌💞
Gday mate, great channel. have a rip with an xl or a double Venturi nozzle at the bore size your compressor can handle. Maximises your air efficiency, bigger blast pattern and cleaner cut on hardcore corrosion/coatings like this. Less time on the hose means sooner you can knock off and get a cold one 🍻cheers
Matt
Hydra blast restorations
Thanks appreciate it 👌 I find the xl only added extra reach but I'm a very big fan of this style nosel just sometimes the length and extra kgs on the longer shifts I perfer to use a general clean nosel were I don't need the extra reach plus they only cost a fraction of the xl 😬 I find the double venture spreads the hotspot and in turn showing the cut I would only pick this style if light fast prep is needed along with the fan nosel similar effect.
Big job.. that marine paint is tough stuff.
😎👌👍
Yea I know why do people watch you Blast a boat hull, well I know for me I like to see the end result, and also just today I was doing some blasting in my cabinet on some auto parts and yea like what your doing even at my scale it can be a bit tedious but the end result is worth it,
Not sure why but I appreciate that people do makes making these videos worth while makeing. Knowing someone is enjoying my efforts 👌💞
Nice one pal, 😁👍
Hi Michael, new subscriber, silly question? Do you recycle any of the sand you use?
Not a silly question it could recycl but I tend to use the media 1x because once it hits it brakes up a small % so not a uniform finish not only that I once was 2 bags shy of finishing a job so I scooped some up. Well I spent the next 8 hour with the pot in bits trying to service a stuck bit of crud. Ever since that I only use fresh media just for the speed aspect and I know that the start of the job will end the same way (profile wise) thx for the sub its appreciated 💞
When it's finished you can rename it "Barge Khalifa" .... or better still, .. "Far Canal"
😂
I'm subscribing. I enjoyed this.

Another fantastic channel for Binge watching :-)
😊👌💞
how do u do bottom?
Please check out my other videos I have a bottom on hear 👌💞
What happens to the bottom plates? Are they just left as out of sight? Seems odd as they will be every ebit as bad as the sides below the water line. Sympathise with damp sand - my Hodge Clemco doesn't like it at all !
Usually it don't mind a but of damp sand but this was well I had to do away with the siv so it would go in the pot haha my build pot is a fully dry as normal or fully saturated or I can add water with win nozzle no other pot available for sale can do this I'm waiting to get it protected before showing how it fully works 😉
Please have a snoop through my other videos I have base plate blasting also all kinds of other stuff you may find entertaining hopefully 😂 that was the goal with the channel anyways 💞👍
bottom plates aren't generally cleaned or even painted / blacked. They are thicker so a little corrosion is less of an issue. They are far enough below the water that there is little oxygen to promote rusting, and in any case narrowboats regularly scrape the bottom so any coating would soon be compromised.
@@spencerwilton5831 plus they are hard to blast so prefer folk wouldn't do the base haha please have a snoop through my other videos I have a base plate blasting video 👍💞
Hi I’m looking to get a Land Rover chassis blasted, do you know if they can blast the inside of it? I’m hoping to get it galvanised but it’ll need to be clean inside and out!
Unfortunately I cannot blast inside of a chassis to get it galvanised they normally dip them in acids and then hot dip them into a bath of glav if your chassis is need of repair may be cheaper to buy 1 done? I have a land rover chassis to do this week 😏 keep an eye out for that video 👌
Greate Job!
👌😊🫡
So it's hardly worth power washing my barge as soon as it come out of the water when the crud is soft if I'm gonna be sand blasting anyway, is this correct??thanks
Jet washing will help because it can stay wet for longer and water on fresh blast steel isn't good but not a major problem for me it makes no difference because the way I hit it I try to push it off into the damp areas but some blasters may not have the hindsight to think on
@@Mobileblaster I was going to get barge lifted first maybe power washed then it would be a week later before it would be sand blasted primed and painted.what I mean is there would be no blasting done the day its lifted out of the water,so will I just leave it and let the sand do the work or power hose it as soon as its lifted. Thanks
@@derrickmurphy7729 yeah that moss stuff stays wet for a long time it will help to wash it and leave to dry or like ya say just save ya self some effort and let the blaster do the work it really don't make much difference. To be honest I like it as it makes for a better before and after photos haha

Why does that boat look oddly familiar 🤔 like I've seen it on RUclips somewhere......
Totally not sure 😃
When was that last blacked how many years ago
Dunno mate
Would putting on more Zinc plates help...and could the anti rust plates be put on the inside
Duno I'm no scientist 😂 my personal thoughts they do were quicker than the steel but I'm yet to see a boat that's got less corrosion near the plates so I'm totally unsure if they actually work or do what they suppose to do. Every boat has them so I've yet to blast a boat without them I've seen em worn to a point the is nothing left but same again normal corrosion patterns so unsure

Enjoy watching your work Mick! if I had my time again I would seriously consider blasting for a living. It's so satisfying watching the stuff come off and the before/after effect is brilliant. Also you have a good spread of jobs between the lorries, boats and woodwork etc so hopefully that keeps it fresh you. Look forward to you showing us the gear you use when thats appropriate. 3 quick questions....any idea what those extra bits are on the hull near the bow? the lumpy bits that look like they are held on with metal strapping?? something to do with corrosion protection or is that only in salt water? what do they do with the bottoms of the boats? and also, did you ever find out what make/model the American car was? bloke has some amount of work ahead of him to get that roadworthy!👍
Thx it's appreciated 👌 and if I had my time again at school I would have listened and learnt that way I would be doing a job that don't consist of getting wet through most days and the days ya don't get wet ya get sand/shot in places you wouldn't like to think. Yeah I enjoy been in different places every day doing different projects.
The guy did tell me about the car but totally forgot now 🤣 it was American classic same as that blue 1 in the photo
Sorry yeah the extra bits on the Hull are supposed to draw the rust to them and are a replaceable part they look like they work but why is the boat still rusting? I have the bottom of a boat to do Tuesday 😳 I don't enjoy them so much 2ft off the ground 😒 that car looked alot of work haha glad I'm not the 1 building it back up lol
@@Mobileblaster Grass is always greener Mick!! thanks for answers. Yes I don't think doing the boat bottom would be much fun. something I thought about when you were inside that tanker and getting hit with the shot; Stihl do a pair of brush cutter trousers which have padding all the way down the front; might not be strong enough for your needs but a bit more protection than ordinary trousers. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next notification! Cheers!!

On a previous video you mentioned that you were not a fan of soda blasting. I had read soda blasting was good for boat hulls as you have a longer period of grace between blasting and painting without rust reappearing on the steal. I’d be grateful for your opinion/view just out of interest. I had my NB grit blasted 3 years ago prior to it having 2 pack epoxy applied.
Soda wouldn't bite through the rust scabs well possible it would but take a very long time and use a lot of media.
Soda is very much like a fine paint removal kinda like taking paint off a can of coke without damage to the alloy prity much useless in my line of work.
And time before paint totally depends on humidity could last weeks before paint could be hours soda will put a very slight extra lee time but nothing to right home about infact I don't fink anyone would notice its only what you know what it dose that would make you thing its giving more time if you get me?
Soda on hulls possibly talking about fiberglass boats? Soda on steel huls would be very costly and not make a nice job like glass 👍

Also, the specific density of soda is not appropriate for rust removal, more for paint removal without creating a surface profile. My choice would have been Garnet.
Very satisfying - do you use different grades of grit/sand?
