Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful girlfriend Mariana for six years now.
Together Mariana, my father Clinton, my mother Julie and myself, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!
In this episode we welcome you to join us in late Winter time as we give you a tour around our dear friends farm house, which is for sale, in a rural mountain village in central Portugal.
I start the virtual tour by introducing ourselves as I explain the reason behind our neighbour and friend selling his farm in central Portugal, we are not estate agents and have no financial involvement in the sale of this property but we believe this to be one of the most beautiful farms around and a bargain too, so it is our pleasure to help out our lovely friend and neighbour, Joaquim.
We start the tour by walking down the long 1km private driveway, spotting all the different trees, chestnuts, cherries and of course big, beautiful, mature olive trees. The track runs from the village to a dead end, following the stream as it does so. The farms that are up this track only have ruins on them, so the track would be only used by the odd tractor driving up to their own land, which I am sure you would quickly become used to who is who and share greetings as and when they passed.
Once at the farm we walk up the sloped entrance and show you the lay of the land, it is evident some wild boar strayed down from the national park / nature reserve in the night as there is a clear sign on the floor that they have been rooting in the undergrowth for worms and ants, they are no threat or problem though, only to vegetables that are planted. A small fence soon keeps them out.
We show the house from a distance, a stone ruin that needs total renovation, this is easy enough and anyone who buys this property has my word that I will help and guide them along every step of the way, using my contractors, builders, plumbers, electricians etc to get the build done as cheaply and quickly as possible.
After we looked around the lower level of the land (the farm part of the property) we walked back along the track where the stream is to show you another track that goes up the property to the ruin, this track has not been used for a decade or two and is inevitably overgrown, of course this is very easily brought back to how it should be with a tractor and a brush cutter, one afternoon of work would sort this out for the price of a few beers in the coffee shop! It does however mean that we unfortunately could not gain access to the farm house, but the drone grabbed a few shots.
Once we made our way back to our own farm I rustled Mariana and I some lunch, we had a beautiful risotto de bacalhau. I show you all my recipe where I made a cheesy risotto with asparagus, celery, red onion, tomato and turmeric. Yum!
After lunch Mariana, Chloe and I take a brief walk up to the vineyard where we show Chloe the sheep and discuss a difficult birthing process we had this week with one of our ewes, Dolly and her new baby Connie. It required a bit of assistance from me to assure that Connie was allowed to enter the world unharmed and healthy. Which fortunately was the case, I explain a little about how we deliver lambs that need assistance and what we need to do to assure that mum accepts baby.
Chloe was actually there to witness the birth of Connie, which I was super thrilled about. You will probably notice this episode that I am very, very happy to have Mariana back on the farm, I did miss her so much whilst she was in Sesimbra showing Chloe to her family for the first time.

The farm is lovely and great price, I am sending out to the universe the intention to have money to purchase something similar if not that one! It will happen, however, I can not say when, for now, I am totally enjoying the feeling I got from watching you and Mariana walk the property. When you two are walking, there is a glitch at around 15:00 for a few seconds that looks like an angel is with you! You are a good chef, and your family looks great, the baby is so cute with so much hair too!

quite remarkable, just last time i watched your channel, it was a video of your farm tour, the 1 year anniversary video, and that day i remember saying i would love to be your neighnor, and here you are a week later saying theres a prperty available in your neighborhood!! i have been manifesting so may things but this one came so quickly i am not ready hahaha, true what they say about careful what you wish cos it may come true, i will be in portugal in mid april, i will contact you when im there maybe we will be neighbors!!! i am coming on holidays driving from netherlands, so the plan was not to view properties but sometime universe pushes you into the best direction when you least plan it. thanks for all you share. it there habitable land with registered construction permit??
Pity you were not able to get to the ruin or springs , seems the property has some potential and the stream is a huge bonus . Hello, it seems you are in the mountains, what kind of climate is there? Does it snow a little bit in winter? I have always fancied to move to a place like this, but I couldn't live without winter. I always say that we get four real seasons here, each of about three months. I’ve seen snow here twice, icy for about one month. We’ve had snow here twice in seven years, both times settled a few inches deep, we see snow every year on the mountain though!

Someday you will have built up a wonderful community around your farm by posting all these opportunities. I grew up in a community full of Portuguese Immigrants and post war Dutch Immigrants....I used to say the Catholic Church was full of tall fair blondes and shorter tanned Portuguese....both groups equally hard working.

Wow 3 months already, what a lovely family...I remember seeing sheep in vineyards of New Zealand a few years ago, I assume they don't damage the vines.
