You did an exceptional job explaining the good aspects of the hobby. Now, it's time to come full circle and do a detailed video about the negative aspects of the hobby, like scalpers, trimmers, those who weigh packs, boxes, cases, those who wash or clean cards or add numbers, like 01/50, yes, there are people stamping their own numbers on cards and trying to pass them off. Please don't forget about the CT scanners, those who get hook-ups from Walmart and Target distributors and always seem to show up just before, during or just after a restock. Also, the local card shop owners who go into Walmart, Target, Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million, Academy Sports and more and buy up all the highly-touted blaster and mega boxes, like Select, Optic, even Prizm, then place them in their store at a 30% to 70% mark up!
Dude. I walked into a Target that had at least 10 chrome MLB boxes Saturday . Today I walked into the same Target and they were all gone including the big Topps complete set. I was genuinely like wtf.
Just getting back into the hobby since I was a kid when my Dad got me into it back in '97. This was a perfect primer to get me back up to speed. Was very confused to learn Topps and Upper Deck were no longer involved in football cards. Appreciate the video and am a new subscriber!

You forgot the most boring yet easily the easiest but imo best way to keep your cards. Sealed product. That's right don't open that box of cards you just purchased. 10 years from now that box will likely be anywhere from double to ten times the value of cards contained within if ripped open. Occasionally you will beat the odds by ripping but very occasionally. And if you keep the box sealed you don't also have to spend money on sleeves boxes and grading. Also you don't have to sort them and you won't need to concern yourself what to do with your next to worthless growing mountain of bulk. Only drawbacks are not as much fun and sealed takes up more space but certainly the way to go if the value of your collection is important to you. When I show off my collection to people everyone is way more interested and impressed with my sealed boxes than my rare valuable singles.
@@buffalobill9793 Interesting point Bill and one that is often overlooked in the hobby, even by myself! Thanks for checking out the video! Appreciate the support 💪
Ripped packs for the first time in at least 25 years today. Pickett and Pickens have me dipping my toes back in. As was usually the case back in the 90’s I was mostly disappointed but these new cards are really works of art. Thanks for all the good info homie.
Welcome back to the hobby!! Glad the video could help! Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, the card designs these days are 🔥 Feel free to DM me on Instagram if you have any questions!
I just got back into the hobby a few months ago. I can honestly say this is the best video of its kind I’ve seen on RUclips. Fantastic job and thank you very much. I’m off to my local card store. Thanks again!!
I went from completely overwhelmed to I got this, after watching this video. Trust me that is very rare for me. Great Job explaining the different aspects of card collecting. I will be tuning in often so i can learn more! Thank You!
I was collecting when I was around 10-12 yrs old and coming back to it I felt lost until I found this video amongst others, thank you for the breakdown 🙏🏼
Collect what you love is advice that transcends all hobbies, sports cards, trading cards, Hot Wheels Matchbox, stamps and coins. I remember, back in the mid to late 80's when I actually started "collecting" cards and not buying them to place in my bike spokes or throw and hit girls in the back of the head in class back in the late 70's early 80's. The first thing I was advised to do was protect your cards. Back then penny sleeves and top loaders were readily available, but my friends and I would load up on the sheets or pages, where we would college teams, break it down by sports and more. The first, last and only time I got into trouble in school, was when I had my binder and my friends and I were sitting in the back of the class looking at and trading cards, when we were supposed to be learning the U.S. Constitution. I remember back then, the value of the card never mattered, I have been ecstatic to get a $3 Ken Griffey card, compared to a $60 Dan Marino rookie card.
Nice work ! Getting into the Hobby, living in Spain so no Card Shops to visit / annoy the owner, so this vid has been of great help. Liked & Subscribed.
I saw a PSA Gem Mint 10 card that looked terrible with very obvious chipped edges. I'm new to this hobby, so I don't really know much, but I was confused. I thought, if I, who knows nothing, can see this with the naked eye, how is this getting a Gem Mint 10 grading?
Just getting back into the hobby and was wondering where are the best places to buy cards from. I only collect football and don't want to find base cards only
Dave, enjoy the video and welcome to the hockey world…so in 2024-2025 for rookies you are looking for a Celebrini, Will Smith, Lane Hudson, Matvie, or Gaulthier (just don’t say his name in Philly)….Upper Deck has a very great group of rookies that they call “Young Guns”…they might take some time to collect but they do gain value. McDavid, Pasta, Crosby, McKinnon are valuable. If you can go out and by a box of 1990-1991 Upper Deck NHL series…the rookie cards in that collection are affordable and decent…it was also the first year the Upper Deck introduced the “ Young Guns” set of cards.
Thanks for checking out the video Chris!! Appreciate the support 🙌 Glad you found the video helpful! Feel free to comment with any questions or DM on Instagram too 💪
Hey! Thanks for checking out the video! I store all my cards in boxes. Everything valuable is toploaded or one-touched. I just keep the base in boxes with no sleeves. Not a big fan of binders since they don’t offer much for protection. Plus you can store more with boxes vs binders

Thanks for checking out the video 🙌 Grats on the Ohtani, that’s awesome! Appreciate the feedback, and each collector’s going to have their own preference, but I just wanted to make sure new collectors know the difference. Thanks again 💪
For sets, I typically keep them in boxes. You can keep sets in individual single row boxes or use multiple rows boxes for sets from the same sport or year. Whichever is easier for you to keep organized. Binders are good for displaying sets, but I always feel the cards stay in better condition if you use boxes over binders. Hope this helps!

Retail boxes are garbage. Hobby boxes are usually garbage as well. Just buy what u want. I will buy retail r hobby for fun. However when serious cash just pay for card u believe in .
I really don’t think authenticity risk is more with a sticker auto, and damage is probably less. I do not like how they look however. I’m happy to pull one in a rip because the alternative is no auto at all, but when buying for my PC I only buy on card if possible. I collected an auto card of all of the 2016 cubs players. I look for all on card, full logo uniforms, and in cubs uniforms. A few I had to do other team uniforms, no logo uniforms, or sticker auto due to availability, but it still bums me out to look at them. Anyone know of Aroldis Chapman or John Lackey on card cubs uniform autos? 😊

Do you keep sets in boxes or are binders fine with penny sleeves
For sets, I typically keep them in boxes. You can keep sets in individual single row boxes or use multiple rows boxes for sets from the same sport or year. Whichever is easier for you to keep organized. Binders are good for displaying sets, but I always feel the cards stay in better condition if you use boxes over binders. Hope this helps!
