    Thank you so much for this solution. I bought a bunkie board from Value City and within two weeks of having it and my new mattress, I was being bothered by it. I looked for a solution and found your video and realized when I took the bunkie board off and put my mattress back on my platform bed the squeaking went away. I removed the cardboard layer and now no more squeaks! I would not have imagined the cardboard was the culprit. Thanks again!

    I can only echo the majority of the comments below. Watched your video today and immediately decided to give it a try on our squeaky box spring. My wife and I together removed the bottom cover, removed all of the cardboard and then re-installed the bottom fabric cover. Took us less than an hour from start to finish. Thanks again for taking the time to post your video. Looking forward to a quieter nights sleep. 😊

    We have the exact same box spring (no springs, though ha) for my daughter. I found this video immediately AFTER doing what you did, ha! She was complaining how loud her bed was, and when i took the black fabric off, was surprised to see cardboard - and did exactly what you did and ripped it all out of there :) I like your suggestion of replacing the staples on the corner pieces - planning to do that next, and if any squeaking persists, I'll throw some screws into the wood joints to tighten them up. So far, very quiet - absolute revolution in sound from her bed. It was SO loud before.

    I honestly did not think this would work! I still gave it a try because I had nothing to lose. So at first I removed the cardboard just like in the video, yet I still had a creaking sound in some areas. So I removed the fabric to take a look. The sound was coming from tiny pieces of leftover cardboard stuck under staples. So I removed the whole thing of fabric and cushion and took out all of the staples with the cardboard under them. Put it back together and now its perfectly quiet. I am so glad I found this video.

  • @ImIsAnn
    @ImIsAnn 6 лет назад +1

    I reserved comment until I tried it. IT WORKS! My box spring is considerably quieter, just the occasional squeak versus a constant screeching with every move. I removed the black fabric, dislodged all of the staples holding the cardboard in place, then cut a slit across top front side of the box spring, and slid the cardboard out in one piece. I figured no harm since I was going to trash it if this hack didn’t work. Thank you for saving my sanity and money!

  • @krisellis6226
    @krisellis6226 7 лет назад +70

    Um FYI..... you should still replace the black fabric that's over the bottom ..... that is to help keep dust/ dust mites insects spiders etc from nesting in the box spring and mattress. It elongates the life of the box spring by helping keep it clean!

    • @MrInzombia
      @MrInzombia 4 года назад +11

      Ew maybe if you live in the wilderness or a 3rd world part of the country with poor pest control. dust mites will most likely be found in your bedding and ontop of the mattress, not underneath the box spring. They feast on the dead skin that you shed on your mattress, which sits on top of the box spring. And no bugs will not nest in your box spring, their are other more convenient places to nest that have more available food and oxygen.

    Just did this today! I was a bit afraid because my box springs are 6 mo old but they sounded like they were 50years old. So I gave this a go. My recommendations are.... Don't fully pull the bottom sheet off, aaaannndd try and pull the cardboard off in as big of pieces as you can. Definitely works! Didn't totally get rid of squeaks but at least 70% better!

And let me say..I'm glad I found it!!! It was a beacon of hope in a world of articles and videos about oiling my springs to get rid of the noise. WTF? I tried this last night on my daughter's and my wife and I's boxsprings and lo and behold...PERFECTION!!! Not a single squeak!!! Now my wife has lost an excuse in the bedroom. I'm sure she has 17 or 18 other excuses but at least I got rid of one. Cheers!!!

    I tried this and it worked perfectly it because you got the cardboard rubbing against the wood frame every time I tossed or turned during the night you would hear squeak squeak squeak squeak and it got upset so I just took the box spring and threw it out on the lawn and started using the exacto knife cut it out and no more squeak. Thanks for these videos it's amazing how something as simple as that worked
