Delbert wasn't active for much of the 80s. This was the start of his coming back to performing. Alligator Records just took this record and put it out because the performance was just popping. Horns, Bass, Delbert blowing on his harp ... Man what a great show. After this he had a revival of his career with duets with Bonnie Raitt and Tanya Tucker ... Anyway, this song and Everytime I Roll the Dice are really tops.
My oh my, this is really good!!! Sweet sound on that harmonica, and what a band!! This is a good example of real good music and great performance!! Love it!!
His band is so damn tight--what great styling top to bottom. I don't think there's a better blues man out there than Delbert! and the one person who said they disliked this clip must be crazy!
The tune that turned me onto Delbert in the mid-70s. I couldn't find it until now because I had the song title wrong. Saw him do it on SNL which he appeared on several times in the 70s.
The Blues Brothers also covered this song on their "Briefcase Full of Blues" album. John Belushi used to go see Delbert at "The Lone Star Cafe" in NYC back in the 70s. He was a great fan of Delbert.
This is the version from the Live in Austin record. Best version I've ever heard. And, this video has even better brass sound than the record. Love it. Thanks for posting!
Randy Kamin I first heard the 1971 ish and Delbert and Glen' s Subject to Change. If you think "Cold November" with David "Fathead" Newman is boring, I'm sorry. I first heard them with lots of bluesy acoustic guitar, Delbert''s amazing harp. I was in Connecticut trying to make Delbert McClinton a household word. I had the great luck of seeing him live in the 80s 90s. His live shows are splendid never boring. But the 1970s Delbert and Glen work was seminal and I wish they'd re-release them. Still got 2 each in vinyl. End of rant. 71 year old rabid Delbert Mclinton fan.
I concur, this is the best recorded version of this song I have ever heard. The groove is perfect, the band deep in the pocket, the double time ending and that righteous drum fill at the end. I could (and probably have) listen to it a thousand times and it's better every time.
I was in the plasma center in Asheville NC and a guy saw my harmonica in my hand cause back then I carried it around everywhere. He told me that night Delbert was playing The Orange Peele. I asked him what songs he sang and he mentioned "B-Movie Boxcar Blues" and I'd only heard The Blues Brothers version back then. No point to this story. Just typing.
@Mbeta300 About three months after the Blues Brothers did this song on SNL, Delbert was on SNL as the musical guest and he did it as well. I think Kate Jackson was the hostess.
The clicking sound in the background was not there for me the first about 20 times I listened to this but it has been there ever since (about 6 months). This happens on two different computers (with different operating systems) and my iPhone. Please repost a clean version.
went on the cruise 4 years in a row best times ever
Agreed! Been on 12 of them.

I can see why the Blues Brothers did a remake of this! Awesome song!
This guy and his band are a hidden gem. I love them!
Bass player killing it. Whole band slammin
Everyone should go on his Sandy Beaches Cruise, he plays there….its great, for 28 yrs now every January!!!
If you can't get your groove on to this tune,You got no groove!! Only one Delbert. No equal!!
Texas blues❤
I love it! Let the good times roll.
What a superman! Texas politics suck, but the music that comes out of Texas is phenomenal!
I’ll take it over Cali. No contest!
My oh my, this is really good!!! Sweet sound on that harmonica, and what a band!! This is a good example of real good music and great performance!! Love it!!
Made me think of you. I love that
One of my favorite songs of all time!
Great to see Stephen Bruton on guitar!
when Stephen took a hiatus from Kris Kristofferson 's band to play with Delbert & Glen, my devotion to Del er McClinton's music sky-rocketed!
My favorite Delbert song easily.
Turd Ferguson introduced me to this song when I lived in Ottawa. Miss him
His band is so damn tight--what great styling top to bottom. I don't think there's a better blues man out there than Delbert! and the one person who said they disliked this clip must be crazy!
My fave Delbert McClinton song!
I love discovering new old music.
This tune is so badass!
Some of the best white blues singers of all time. His writing and the groove the band gets are as good as any one including James Brown
Stephen Blows it out on this one. Great guitar work. R.I.P Mr. Bruton.

I danced all night every time I saw Delbert. Soul brother. And the women at his shows. Ready and willing!!!
Phenomenal performance.
If I could sing, I would like to sing like Delbert. I listen for hrs. and never get tired of hearing the best entertainer ever.
This is the version from the Live in Austin record. Best version I've ever heard. And, this video has even better brass sound than the record. Love it. Thanks for posting!
my sincere pleasure Randy!
The one from Delbert &Glen is perfect, 1st I heard it.
@@BOOMNERD51 Sorry, but that version is totally boring compared to this live version.

Saw Delbert, Edgar Winters and Leon Russel live at Billy Bobs one new years eve WHAT A SHOW.
Holy crap. That sounds lights out cool.
Who ever did not like this has no SOUL. Fantastic!!!!!
Because it’s not Soul music. It’s Blues. Duh
I've seen ole Delbert play several time, he doesn't dissapoint......Rev Eddro

Great times
Taught Lennon how to play harmonica.
Love me some Delbert. The man can lay it down- and the horns c’mon
There's only 1 Delbert.
Saw him live in Tucson in the 80s... great show
.
This always reminds me of Reacher 😅

Delbert's the man, Band is HOT but big part of the sound is that Great Drummer No bullshit just ass kickin GROOVE
@Mbeta300 About three months after the Blues Brothers did this song on SNL, Delbert was on SNL as the musical guest and he did it as well. I think Kate Jackson was the hostess.
Delbert taught John of the Beatles how to blow harp
Trouble thru the night while the fruit got ripe, all I could eat for a quarter......
This Mann
Caught Delbert and the band in Fort Smith. One hell of a bunch of pickers. If you can't get right by this music, you're DOA.
It sells out pretty quickly though, and has many great players…all week long and all day long!
I'm doing my best to get back to you...
Sure miss Stephen Bruton.
We all do❤
Nice
@KnickyDymondz .............SWEET!
This is Austin in 1989
Oh Yea Tommy Castro may sound a little like like Delbert, not the other way around
Metronomic applause anybody?
Rolls the dice is best ever
no I believe that was Taj Mahal
👍
what year was this ?
MaN who's this bassist? He is on fire!
Tim Loftin on Bass
This guy sounds like Tommy Castro!
Tommy Castro sounds like Delbert......
Huh ?
Maybe every song doesn't need tambourine but if they did KEEP TIME and don't get so tired you sound like that
Drummer = time keeper. Just sayin'
4:08 Best ending drum fill E.V.E.R.
I didn't say it wasn't his song. Sam and Dave also appeared on SNL soon after as well and did "Soul Man" and didn't fuck up the lyrics.
What is that annoying clicking going on over the video? I have this show of Delbert's in Austin & the noise isn't there.
She Caught The Katy Was written by Tigerman ( I think)
Nope it was written by Taj mahal

Great except for the clapping
@DanDelvis seek out the Infidel and break all of their PDiddy, Madonna, and Lady GaGa cd's! I wanna be JUST like Delbert, when I grow up. (now 49)!
UmMM
12 people have no taste.
wtf
The Blues Brothers version was much better. Especially with all those famed Stax musicians
