Right, it's not always drugs/Alcohol, but a lot of them have issues. I worked in the homeless shelters for our church. We can't help those that aren't willing to help themselves. Only a few survive.
90 percent of these homeless people are criminals and drug addicts who refuse to work for a living and don't want to abide by any rules such as the lady in this video stated.
It's good to think that but when you live in an area with people like that, such as myself, you ofter see that most do infact abuse substances that are the most direct cause of them being homeless.
For decades people would rather live on the streets of whatever city then to go into a shelter. The streets may be mean , but the shelters are even meaner. They get their things stolen , raped , bullied fights , so on and so on . I've talked to many homeless people that say no thanks to the shelters, no matter how cold or how hot . As much as I wish homelessness didn’t exist, some people can’t be helped. You can’t teach an addict to not do drugs. The addict must possess a desire to get clean and stay clean. You can’t help someone with mental illness if they refuse to take medication. You can’t teach money management to someone who doesn’t want to be taught. Also, teaching money management to someone who has a mental illness and/or addiction to cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs is hopeless. You can’t convince someone to obey the rules if they do not have the desire to do so. It’s incredibly difficult to find a good paying job with benefits for someone who has a felony criminal record, reeks like cigarettes, has poor social skills, has problems with authority, or dislikes rules. You can’t tell a person to get a job (and keep a job) if they don’t have a desire to work. . . . . . . .

I own a home but I have to follow the rules of making my payments, not disturbing my neighbors, paying my gas, electric, and water bills, getting to work everyday so I can pay those bills and manging my money. There's a dozen different reasons for homelessnes. The only ones who are going to get out of it are those willing to follow rules. I know this for a fact as I was one of them. Homeless in a shelter following their rules so I could stay there. Got a job and followed their rules so I didn't get fired and got my pay. Following rules every single day of my life in order to survive.
This is why so most homeless people move to Sunny California. Can live without rules, in a place with lots of room, people with money to give and year round warm weather.

The city has empty warehouses etc Bring all these people indoors then they go in the spring. Staff city people inside 24/7 for their needs. But I guess that's too much to ask.

Greyhound bus from Grand Rapids, MI to Tallahassee, FL. is $137, why not move and come back in the summer ? It's 65 degrees F right now in Tallahassee, FL.and 70 by the end of the week 2/12/22. I see this is a year old, but I bet they are right where they were last year.
They just need to build mini shelter parks in every major city so if people fall that far down they have a place which is safe, warm and dry and gives them a footing or stops them falling like this. I have seen a few of them around, the homes are small cabins that are flat packed and very cost effective.

Homeless Americans choose tents for security. Homeless shelters are only over night. Out by 8am. You might get a bed 3 nights out the week. It's called turn style. Shelters are only financed enough to hold you back till your ID expires. Then cops can get you in jail for a long sit. . Tents were little more secure. Hold some food. Little clean clothes.. etc. . When the country was screaming help the homeless, cops had no choice. So with a smile, they gutted assistance. .. Now it's becoming summer, tent cities. Maybe cops were just Putting inside men in shelters for future crime wave??

Homeless ok just not in a city where it snows. My only thought on the matter is can I salvage the car I want and if I can will I make to a place where it don't snow and I can throw away my phones

When you are homeless, you weigh the balance. Is it better to deal with the cold or loose your freedom in a place that could get you killed? And you figure in your mind that Cold isn't that bad after all.
Rent is too expensive. When housing was affordable, there were not nearly this many people homeless. But you seem comfortable in your ignorance, so stay that way.
Hand warmers that use a charcoal fuel stick that lasts 6 hours would go a long way in keeping people warm that are living in tents for the winter ....they're made to light one end and they stay warm foe about 6 hrs if you light both ends it's hotter and lasts about 3 - 4 hrs ....relatively cheap and if purchased in quantity I'm sure a deal could be worked out for a cheaper price

Kerosene in a tent is a bad idea especially if the person has addiction issues, far too often the tent catches fire, and they get badly burned or die, I've heard of this happening several times.
