Us: “Hey Russ, wanna make your Odin 2 look like an 80’s robot?”
Russ: “Yeah, man, I wanna do it.”
swapping the buttons from the white to the blue and vice versa was genius, they look so much better
Great launcher
Beacon supremacy
It makes me wonder why this wasn't the default configurations sold by AYN😂😂
So real
The Odin 2 Base was my BEST purchase last year compared to all the handhelds I purchased. Amazing piece of hardware.
Why tf are you buying more than one handheld
@@idkanymore3382Come on now. You know handhelds turns into a "I just need one more" kind of thing. Some are great for the couch, some are great for travel etc..etc..Its a deep rabbit hole after you fall in.😅
@@idkanymore3382you would be surprised
I’m betting he’s a fan of handheld devices? Maybe he likes owning different ones for their own unique qualities? Do you ask collectors of other items “why tf they have multiples”? Different strokes for different folks.
(P.s I have shit loads of hand helds and don’t feel I should apologies? Should I?)
It’s still the best almost 1 year later
Literally just watched the Odin 2 Starter guide 2 days ago. You just keep blessing me.
Yay, another video.
I discovered your channel a month ago, and I have been binge-watching your videos every since.
Thanks, I will send you some bucks to show my gratitude.
Those magnetic buttons are pretty cool
Russ, your channel is the gift that keeps on giving man.
Awesome Russ. Going to check out your other Odin 2 videos and see what the value proposition is over the OLED ‘Deck which I already have. Thank you sir! Hope you’re having a great vacation.
Your channel more than any other is driving me to have to have a retro/gaming handheld! Thanks!
WOW!!! So much better with the contrasty buttons. Well done!
Here we go!! Excited for this!
Getting my Odin2 Max tomorrow 🎉 can’t wait to watch your setup guide for the Odin 2.
It looks so dope! Great job 👍
Love these mods, looks great 👌🏻
Cool video, but no way I'm attempting this with my clumsy sausage fingers
I had already done the PS buttons on my Black Odin 2… it looks slick 👌🏼
I look forward to your inevitable ES-DE video explaining the custom systems folder and some of the useful xml files we have to add in 😉
Excellent presentation ty for the upload.
I used your guide to set up my Odin 2 Max couple weeks ago, worked perfectly, thank you for all the work you put in ! I would love a controller/dock video guide about Odin2, doesnt seem to be any good one out there. Keep up the great work !
Same here would love a controller guide because I plan to play some games with multilayer locally
I got the Slugwork sticks and love them. I got both the concave and hybrid but ended up liking the concave better. I also ordered the tomtoc case and love it! It fits my RG35XX, charging brick, cables and odin 2 with plenty more space to go, highly recommend!
Yay! Wish I had the money to back these when they came out
Brooo I already loved the Odin 2 and now letsgoo I am watching it right now
Cheers Russ. Trans blue with the white buttons is really sweet.
Very cool mods Russ. I too love my white Odin 2. Been buying caps and sticks for all my Retro Pocket devices for a while now. They just make the experience slidly better. I would also recommend buying the full grip Odin 2 for those that play use the dpad often. Your hands will thank you. Would love those swapping buttons once they become available.
I got the Odin 2 because of Russ and man it’s so good
Yay another Odin video!!! 🎉
Both look amazing now. Wow
I got SlugWorkshop's Xbox style sticks for my odin 2. I slapped on some KontrolFreek grips. I freek'n love them! Lol. Next is the U.S. SNES buttons! Thanks for the walk through.
I'd LOVE to have rainbow buttons but I know once I take it apart it will never work the same.
You did the mod I was going to do to my blue Odin 2. Now, actually, seeing the white buttons on the blue shell, I think I prefer it stock.
Man those magnetic swappable buttons are so cool
Sticks ordered!
Best handheld purchase I made by far
The black and white odin is nice.
The rainbow abxy buttons are also really cool
Love the intro music❤
Odin 2 is so amazing. I have my entire childhood on the go now, and then some. Citra still is apart of Retroarch as of this comment. Yuzu is still readily available also. I have 2 switches though and with no retro achievements I have little reason to use this as a switch player. Everything Wii down has worked fantastic so far. Now it’s figuring out what to play
I've been wondering about those exact thumbstick cap replacements. Thanks covering more accessories in your videos. The only thing I'm still on the fence about are some 3D printed grips I've seen on Etsy.
I'm fasting for Ramadan but you always tell me to grab a snack and drink 😂
Thanks for the amazing content as always!
I've also owned an Odin 2 since last Friday and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. There have been minor updates since your Odin 2 starter guide. This makes setting it up even easier, as some of the things are already set up like in your Starter Guide video.
It's a shame that the Citra Emulator is no longer officially available. About Citra. It would be interesting to know what kind of Citra version the one from the Starter Guide is, because I have now downloaded several versions, but I always had a different layout and so I had to experiment. Luckily it worked out in the end. As always, this video too: Absolutely fantastic and thank you very much for your ideas and help.
...edit: and yes...I just ordered the new analog sticks ^^
Thise mafnetic buttons are genius for hot swapping ABXY when streaming Xbox. Definitely worth purchasing when those come out.
Me encantó tu vídeo!!!
Thanks Russ, this is one of my favorites of yours, just ordered a white button set for my transparent purple pro because of this video. How did I never notice before that you're a lefty too? You'd think the tool use in the breakdown would have been what tipped me off, but I finally noticed that you wear your watch on the right wrist just moments before you began.
I have a New3DS with the Skittles buttons. Such a beauty.
22:15 HE MADE SWAPPABLE BUTTONS?? Fantastic
Finally I get to see the blue model with the white buttons. They look great. I bought the a/b/x/y white buttons with my order. Didn't think about the other ones. Oops. Not sure when I'll get to swapping them out though.
One of my issues with the Odin 2 was that the sticks were a bit lower and smaller than I'd have liked. I ordered. One last week but it it was backordered so teby finally shipped yesterday. Ordered the concave ones. I'll see how I feel about them and might just order the hybrid ones as well.
Another issue I have with the Odin is that it is a smaller device and when I use the D-pad a lot my thumb gets cramped. Ordered a grip from Etsy as well and I used it last night and it makes such a difference.
those last buttons (swappable ones) are super, I want that for ayaneo, onex and steam deck
I like black buttons on a white shell. So classy.
I had the Ascii pad, so the rainbow buttons are more nostalgic for me than purple.
Russ is really tempting me to get an ODIN 2. 🙈😅
Odin 2 swappable buttons is a DREAM!
I hope they start selling those soon, and here goes a tip: The base for the right-most button needs to be shallower than the rest, or the other buttons' bases taller to compensate for the curvature of the Odin 2. Saying that cause i was working on a model too, i just don't feel like resin 3D printed buttons are good enough for that aplication so i quited :/
This is relevant to my interests.
The magnetic buttons have potential to be a really amazing. That combined with the adjustable sticks, could really improves the feel of the device. The only last thing for me would be an improvement to the screen which isn't terrible but I'm use to AMOLED screens on everything now. So a slightly smaller screen compromise in direct sunlight is less of an issue in comparison to deep blacks. So if we see an Odin 2.5 with similar chipset but improved those areas, that's worth a look.
"so you thumbsticks don't damage your table" 😂😂
I swear i really dont NEED an odin 2 with the Steam Deck. But I am SO tempted. Selling my original Odin Pro to a friend but man i really liked it as well.
Same here. Extremely tempted to just buy one.
The stick getting in the way of the face buttons really shows how the Steam Deck layout is good for ergonomics. I wish the Odin 2 had the sticks on top, but I know most people wouldn't accept that
I am still thinking if I am going to get one but I do think that the best one is the white but not for the same reasons. I think the best reason is the white frame that makes it look better with the rest of the console and for me that is why it looks better than the other models. Greetings from Argentina!
Love the magnetic buttons. And glad Russ stopped himself from saying "I like it rough" when referring to the grips ha ha ha
Sold me on those analogs … that was only complaint on the Odin 2. Such a nice system with tiny analogs.
Watching this video to see what completes first, Russ's Odin transform or Dragon's Dogma 2 shader compilation. Russ is winning...
If you just wanna raise the thumbstick by a bit i recommend using an o ring , it's pretty simple and you can keep the same caps
ok,thoae magnetics buttona are a great idea, I love them since I'm someone who love to customize handhelds and have magnetica buttons makes a lot easier customizing it
I hear the retro game corps intro music in my head before even clicking on the video
The Odin 2 is incredible. I have it. The Base model. In my opinion, i think the Base model is enough for everybody. I was playing PS2 games and Gamecube games at full speed and 3x resolution. The Steam Deck is going to be for playing Steam games only. 😊
looks good but the sakuraretromodding buttons feel nicer than the stock ones due to them being less flat and more rounded, together with the slugsworkshop3d sticks you get the real xbox controller experience :)
Hey thanks for the look out!! I kinda hate the stock joysticks on the Odin 2. I mean they’re not terrible but I tried shooting games and yeah they are not meant for shooting games lol
The button swaps look fantastic! I personally do like the black and white combo myself like you and any time I see that scheme I always think of storm troopers. I still have a Gen 1 Odin and would you happen to know if those thumbsticks fit in the joysticks for that?
Wiating for the replacement shells. I regret not picking up the white odin 2
Love my Slug thumb sticks. Also found out he live four miles from me lol
It would be cool if there were a mod for the transparent cases that put a thin ring around the inside of the joystick area to mask the stick LEDs so they looked more like they do on the opaque shells.
taller sticks are a must if you're doing game streaming with modern games
I wish they had this with an 8 inch screen option.
How you feel about your Odin 2 is how I feel about my rg556 😁 so comfortable and oled 🔥
That guy with the magnetic face buttons is on to something BIG. I WANTS
I have a controller that has magnetic buttons. It is the gamesir g4 pro and I think that is probably where the seller got the idea from.
Those prices are so good. They truly are catering to their customers. AYN rules
Definitely interested in those magnetic buttons. When is SlugWorks aiming to have those ready? I'd buy them as-is, even with the issue you pointed out.
I have a controller that has magnetic buttons. It is the gamesir g4 pro which was released years ago and I think that is probably where the seller got the idea from.
he made the panda color himself, looks really good. (a lot better than white on white)
Can the Odin 2 be configured with the Xbox facebuttons layout both in functionality/system and the buttons themselves (standard keyed physical buttons)?
I have the Rainbow model, I think that only came out later, got mine for 1 week now.
Just swapped my base to the rainbow buttons. Wish I order a full set in white for an Oreo look (inverted Panda?). Can only imagine shipping to the US for just buttons is probably close to half the cost.
Your white Odin is gorgeous. Not sure if the taller sticks breaks portability because I never held one. Not sure if its portable/pocketable in first place.
Those magnetic button add ons need to be on every controller!
Im looking for a dock that works with the TPU shell is there any options you know of Russ?
Now you just need to tryout the Odin 2 dock.
It would be great if we could replace the buttons to be pressure sensitive. That’s a feature that’s been available since the ps2 dual shock controller.
I always wanted to cave in and get one of these but I am sometimes on the fence about it. I mainly would want to emulate: GBA, DS, SNES, 3DS, PS2, Gamecube, Switch, some Android gaming and streaming PS4/PS5 games. If I ever get a Steam Deck again I'd save all the storage on it for my pc games.
I didn't realize you were so fond of the Odin2. I know you liked it, but I didn't realize it was one of your main consoles.
What types of stuff do you play on there? I know the GC and PS2 has better support than the RP4-P, but wasn't sure if there was anything on top of that which made you turn to it often despite its size.
Very cool that it has a fair amount of mods at this point. Usually this Chinese stuff gets little support in terms of aftermarket mods like this because there's just so many of them.
Thanks for the video. I have the transparent blue model and although i really like it something felt missing. Those white buttons look fantastic
I’m looking at getting a handheld like this and wondering whether I should go all in and spend the bit extra on an Odin or just get a anbernic model. Advice very welcome please!
I've got axeez analogue sticks turning up from an etsy seller located in France should be delivered in a couple of days and will add some height onto my sticks and allow me to use switch lite thumb grips too. Still considering swapping my face buttons but not sure what I want to go with just yet but probably going with PlayStation buttons
Have you got a link to this please?
@@mauleymaule I did link it but youtube removed it anyway it's by a seller called moflomade and they are called axeez
Wow the thumb sticks are already sold out. I bet they would feel great with the Skull & Co Xbox thumb stick caps with their grippy texture.
The white console would be perfect if it didn't have the white bezel around the screen. Like that i prefer the Cold Gray with the exact same black/coloured button replacement which i did when AYN made them available separately. It looks absolutely stunning.
Although I still love my Steam Deck, it seems a lot of people are starting to get bored with theirs and are looking for slightly smaller alternatives with better battery performance.
6:35 Is the Odin 2 using Hall effect triggers? You’ve mentioned magnets during the Analog triggers disassembling part of the video.
Hey Russ, just curious. How many times did you do the build for making this video? It looks like it was hard to make this nice step by step guide video.
My D pad is very loud, clicky and feels like it's about to fall out. I actually think they are defective but I'm to lazy to do anything about it. Any upgrades available?
Aftwr the Odin 1, I dont trust them enough for QC with the odin 2 to get one.
Nice changes, but if i try to do something like that myself I'm pretty sure my beloved odin 2 will break. In the next years i will probably open the back to remove the dust.
What I'm happy to see is the fact this console is fixable.
I wonder if there will be any battery swap and wireless charging solutions
I need to get playstation buttons for my Odin 2. Those look the best for me, and it helps my brain not freak out over a and b vs b and a. Lol
It does create another problem, though. Using PlayStation buttons, you have 3 different possible X button locations.
So, the Odin 2 is currently on sale (last I saw it was 39 dollars off), so I am wondering when the next one might be coming out?… mainly because I don’t have one lol!
