Pun and Big don’t do the same thing. Their styles aren’t comparable like that as far as saying who’s better. Pun’s hero is Kool G Rap, and his style is a direct reflection of that. They like that rapid fire, lyrics of fury on some gangsta shit type rap. Biggie comes more off the Kane tree…that fly Brooklyn shit. You can also tell that Big is heavily influenced by L.L. too. You’d have to compare Big to someone else like Jay Z .

Kane and G Rap are rapid fire , punchline rappers and Biggie is a gangster rapper who's influences are slick rick , heavy D , 2 pac ( With the death and survival lyrics and baby baby) , G Rap , and a little Kane ...Pun is a G Rap and Shabbaz the Disciple ( go listen to Death be the penalty , even this song has his horror core influence, flow and mood) . PUN is better than Big on everything except live performances .

The only reason rappers like Biggie, JayZ, 2Pac, and a few others get mentioned as the best ever is because they were all radio friendly, and had catchy popular songs, and tons of exposure. But to real hip hop fans that judge on lyricism, technique, wordplay, flow, topics, vocabulary, punch lines, cleverness, etc....
There are plenty of MC's that people haven't even heard of that would rap circles around those dudes, and make them seem like Sesame Street rappers.

But what I said still stands, that there are rappers that are relatively unknown that are more skilled in rapping than the greats people always mention only because of their catalog of popular radio songs they have had for many years. So they're rankings are mostly based on popularity and longevity more than actual rapping skill.

I think they were great for the type of rapper they were but in my opinion being a hip hop fan for many many years, I have known other artists that were just better than them. But they weren't as popular or mainstream. But to the majority of people popularity equals greatness, And it trumps skill.
The best example is Big Pun, although he is fairly popular as well, the only reason people have a hard time saying he's better than 2Pac or big or Jay z is because of popularity. People know damn well that the actual rhyming of Pun is above those dudes.

The more you dig the more you’ll see why NY was on fire and Hip Hop exploded during this time. It was extremely hard to find two rappers who had the same style or same flow. Pun was heavily influenced by cool g rap (a lot of rappers are) but Pun, in short is a very extreme roided freak version of cool G rap, they're very similar, but pun took his style to another level.
