thebeat Dude, thank you! This is exactly why we started 180 Drums. I (Jake) felt there was a void of guys hosting lessons where the teachers have the help necessary to break down the patterns in their heads. What's your name? How long have you been playing? :)
Just discovered this channel from a Luke Holland video and I'm liking the breakdowns and the way we get to see the player use the rudiments on different drums. Great channel! Thanks for the videos
Thanks so much AJ! Welcome to the #180Family man! Would love to hear your thoughts on 180drums.com if you're looking to take your playing to the next level. :)
180 DRUMS The fact that there is no separation between the singles is why I don't consider this a 6 stroke roll. I would honestly call it an inverted paradiddlediddle, otherwise I don't see a distinction between the rudiments. Like, if I play RllrrLrrll with no separations, I would consider it an interesting sticking for a fivelet (or however you're grouping it), not a five stroke roll.
What you have transcribed at say 9:14 "R hand idea" is really, really tough. The 6 note pattern as 32nds ie not triplets took awhile to get. Great vid. Subbed
Good tip to really lock that left hand in is to put a metronome on and isolate the left hand (play the left hand notes only) like he does in the one section, and listen how the beat will fit within the metronome groove
I always thought 6 stroke rolls - or any length rolls - were just about the length. I missed the whole point! But I'm very glad I've found this channel
loving the channel! been a sub for a while but not had enough time to really dig into it. great format, great presenter, great players. what's not to love?! :-)
Me too. Difficult trying to play drums when you live in the city, looking at silent practice options. Would be great to see you guys do a video on this to help us out...I just want to play all the time but only get 30 mins on a practice pad before putting my daughter to bed!
for 6/8 time how would that be counted? I understand it as for the groove as 1 and a, 2and a 3 and a 4 and a then the fill is 1 trip let and triplet and so on. is that correct counting?
I absolutely love 180 drums. I was half self taught and half i learned from a friend. But these videos help me improve more and learn more technical ideas. Quick question though, would it be possible to break down that groove in the beginning? or what would be the concept as to playing it? Either way thank you for this channel.
***** Hey Luis! Thanks so much for your kind words. YOU are the reason we created 180drums.com .. So glad you're enjoying the lessons and definitely consider signing up to the site if you want to learn some of Adrian's grooves and take your playing to the next level! Welcome to the #180Family!
simply amazing! How do he do that pattern thing when he play through the whole kit? Damn i really recognize more and more that i need to do some practices again!
"I start with my left hand." As a lefty who leads/starts mostly with his left hand, Thank You. Does anyone have trouble when starting with the hand thats isnt usually your lead?
Not really. I started drumming young, and the first thing id do is practice with both hands until both were equal in speed, skill, etc. Never had that issue
noobdrawsz a: Good reply. You just have to keep working on gaining equal balance/strength on each hand. For some, it takes longer, and for others, it may not take as long. The key is to just keep working diligently on it. You will get there eventually. 😁
@@carrot7215Any recommended exercises? Ive been drumming since I was 13, but I've started to stagnate. Mostly cause I never bothered with actually learning like I should have been.
@@stick-itproductions.3307 Yeah. My favorite to this day is double stroke rolls. Catch is do it somewhere without rebound (i do it in my leg) RR LL RR LL RR LL etc. Start with your dominant hand and see how fast you can do 4 strokes (use a metronome). I recommend starting at 60 bpm then working to your peak (when you know you cant keep up the pace). Write the time down in your head because you will do the same with your non dominant hand. The non dominant hand should be slower. Work on making your non dominant hand (NDH) equal with your DH. When they are relatively the same, work on the rolls til you can struggle a 200bpm double stroke roll Now why is this? This is because now you have muscle memory for the speed and technique. Now play around with it! EX:RL RL LL RR now flip it! LR LR RR LL Lastly now you use the linear fill from the video R L L (3/4). This is the perfect exercise for discomfort lol. Now things come full circle, remember the double stroke rolls? Well the same principle applies here. Time your DH, than get your NDH at the same speed (use a metronome!!). If you got here, then you use everything you just learned on a fill. Then flip the fill mid way to make it more difficult. I hope it makes sense. Always rely on your worst hand to push it to be just as good as your DH. If you start a song with your left hand, start with the right. A fill starts with right hand? Switch it!
Interesting seeing a right handed player with a left hand lead fill. A variation of this is one I saw Dave Elitch use, and it goes L K R l l K (capitals are accents, two lefts in the second triplet are ghost notes)
I've been to audiologists. There's nothing anyone can do. Tinnitus is incurable. By the way, my audiogram is normal. No hearing loss, except from the natural loss everyone gets by age of course. But my audiologist says the curves are all normal for my age etc. To be honest, no one really knows anything about tinnitus, its mostly theories and assumptions.
ventende When I was younger I used to play without hearing protection, which resulted in a bit of tinnitus. As soon as I realised that it was becoming a problem I started wearing hearing protection religiously and, after a while, the ringing and hissing started to fade and has now disappeared almost entirely. I know these sorts of things can be vastly different for different people (I know some people that expose themselves to monstrous amounts of noise frequently, but have no apparent hearing issues whatsoever), but I wouldn't give up hope if I were you. Just be consistent with hearing protection and give it time.
Hey guys I'm new here and I really appreciate your support on Instagram. I like your channel. I just discovered that a snare stand is great to put your computer on!
Hey Alan! You're so welcome man, thank you for the kind words and keep up the hard work. Snare stands are pretty versatile ;-) Welcome to the #180Family - Jake
I like this host cause he actually makes the drummer do more examples and it gets explained better so that others can understand unlike other videos.

Yo - The vibe in this room is so chill and positive. Made me think about my 6 strokes in a totally different way. Thanks dudes.
I love the host's pure excitement and enthusiasm about drums and his guest's abilities. Seems to bring out the best in them.
this guy has monster chops
Dude... I don't think I have ever seen something broken down, explained and built back up so methodically. good work. subbed.
sometimes RUclips is good to me, this coming onto my recommended . awesome how you make it so simplistic to start. subbed!

I'm not even a drummer but I found this facinating... great vid...
I don't know if it's the miking that is responsible but that bass drum and snare sound is fantastic.
So many things from Adrian's tuning, drum selection, heads, playing and micing :) Glad you dig it John!

I'm with you John! ;)
@ian wessenberg, almost! An inverted Paradiddle is rllr lrrl a six stroke roll, left handed and permutated is lrr llr. Adrian is playing lrr llk :)

I noticed your Joey jordison signature snare drum, I have one two!
I like this channel better than drumeo. Straight to the point. Less corny. Not the same shit over and over and over and over like drumeo has become.
Too bad they haven't posted on yt in ages
Yeah I know. I'm flipping stupid
Cool channel! Hope it keeps growing!

Thanks man, glad you're digging it!
Anyone know what snare that is? It sounds amazing
Joey Jordinson Pearl snare!
Those are cool looking drums.
You guys should do a video on tuning tips
We'll have to pull one from our site at some point for sure ;)
that bass drum sounds so powerful
Great playing!
this snare is insane
Really great tips!! Thanks a lot!
Have a question totally unrelated to the lesson. The black device near the snare drum I am guessing is a snare mic? If so, which one?
Good lesson, funky!
Thanks Pat!
simply amazing!
How do he do that pattern thing when he play through the whole kit?
Damn i really recognize more and more that i need to do some practices again!
We go through a bunch of fills with Adrian on the site! As for which fill you're talking about here, I'm not sure, he plays a bunch!
180 DRUMS yeah that's great I really enjoy your video's
Thanks so much man! Did you check out the free membership to the site? :)

SICK
Awesome !!!!
Great stuff
How common is tinnitus with drummers?
It can be quite common! Are you suffering from it?
Yes. I have Tinnitus and Hyperacusis. The latter is hyper sensitivity, especially to high frequency noise. My T is constant and high pitched.

This is the exact way i accidentally 6 stroke roll lol 😂 hahahaha
It's BENT!!!!
more new age then drumeo
caleb robinson you right , you right

Stoked to have you a part!
Shouldn't we rather call this «6 stroke roll» an «inverted paradiddlediddle»?
Actually, I believe these are called inverted paradiddles, not six-stroke rolls. Regardless, great lesson, great food for groove!
Subbed.
Welcome to the #180Family man!!
it's kind of hard, but i think Noting Is Impossible Right
It's not six stroke roll.. its para diddle diddle (PLPPLL) but inverted... six stroke roll would go with same stickings but different note value...
@2:00
Wow, he is not even conscious about his fills, it will be cool to arrive to that.
Years and years of practice for sure Drew!!
Nice
