Chanel you’re a reading machine!! 700 books this year?! You’re my reading inspo now 😍😅 But I agree with you, I would like for them to bring back some of the other categories. Middle grade and graphic novels would be nice. They even use to have children’s picture books as a category which I would like back too! And yep, I also think only one book by an author per category.
@@SharniandBooks I have no social life Sharni - it’s just me and my books (and my kids but they don’t wanna hang out with me anymore lol) And yes man, just being all the categories back Friday McFadden would have won if they only did one of her books - doesn’t benefit them to include two
Richard Osman is huge in Britain. One of the biggest TV presenters doing quiz shows and other stuff. Everyone I know who has read his books loves them. I think he does cosy slightly twee crime / murder thrillers type stuff that readers love here. Sounds like the kind of book I'd enjoy on a boring rainy weekend at home
Hi Chanel! This was fun! So, I only voted in the categories where I read a couple books at least. I also didn’t feel right voting for a book I only gave 3 stars too. Ministry of Time was such a let down. Booooo. I did really really love Orbital. I liked that it looped in my brain. What a beautiful metaphor for the human experience and frackin scary for the unknown. Good times. 😊❤
@@MarleneTheresa I was sad ministry of time was a let down too - the plot sounded so good I’m glad you liked orbital! It was a bit slow for me but many people love it - and it won the booker prize
everyone has raved about The Ministry of Time to me, so am surprised you didn't rave about it but then you are very surprising and that is good. I downloaded a book on the history list with this months Audible credit that is getting five star reviews: - The Siege by Ben Macintyre. Sounds like a proper heroic blokes book about a hostage situation at a London embassy in the 1980s, and I love being a bloke sometimes
Wow... u have read 700 books in 2024! Most of these genres are not my thing, but I value your reports on them. They help keep us all informed. Thank u!
Yes this year I stayed home a lot - I’m used to reading from all genres as it was important to my former job as a librarian but it ended up sticking as I still keep my reading varied - I’m guessing you mostly read alt stuff?
@@ChanelChapters OMG... wanna hear about yr past librarian life!! For me it's: Alt Lit, Modern lit, poetry (all periods, ancient to now), and the Romantics (major William Blake head!)
I don't really vote on any of this stuff, but honestly I do not read enough to be a voter on stuff like this. I like to just get my intel from you. I think you did a great job here without doing lots of research. 💖
Hey, I'm starting The Wedding People for a bookclub, after I catch up on booktube (2 more vids after this one) I read The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult last month!, good but Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus had similar vibes and was better. As a massive Norse myth nerd, I didnt care for A Fate Inked in Blood very much. It was a better version of The sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young. One thing that gave me the ick was her name was Freya and they kept comparing him to Baldur (who was the prettyboy god) but also Freya's son 😫. My best norse myth book was The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec (first book of the year to make me cry), and The Weaver and the Witch Queen by the same author in second place. The Fox Wife by Yangsze Choo was pretty good! It was historical fiction with a bit of magic (took place in late 1800sish China). Felt a bit slow and long but still good. Ha! I (nicely) gave Annie Bot 1.5☆! I enjoyed You Like it Darker by SK, solid King but nothing special. I gave What moves the Dead 2.75☆, but What Feasts at Night is an obligation read for me this month. (yay :/) I got Phanasma free so at some point I might read it.
@@zachreads hope you enjoy wedding people too Lesson in Chem is great I also enjoyed the witch’s heart I will probably start with pet sematary by king Hope you enjoy phantasma more than I did
I don't think The Spell Shop is romantasy either. If it's romantasy half my books are that genre too. The Stand, Tommyknockers; that's all the King I have read. Though he is obviously a very good writer he simply writes books that are longer than they need to be. I am not on Goodreads as trying to catalogue all this is just not on my agenda. I hope you are well.
Spell shop was definitely misgenred Oof you know how I feel about books that are too long/could have been edited down - will keep that in mind Kids have had a run of bad health but hopefully next week we’re all right as rain again

Yep which is why I thought he’d possibly win but I was wrong on that one

I do wish I was more easy to please book wise so I could like everything as much as others seem to
Cheers to being a bloke 🍻

Yep same, only vote if it’s 4 stars or higher
