Learn to Control Your Foil!

I ride my foil SWITCH for the first time in this video so I can learn to gain control of my wake surf foil to better convey the key tips I tell people when coaching them to ride their wing for the first few times. The rhythm and control is something that is so different when riding a foil and I've found some pointers to help speed up the learning curve so they can soon get into the wave and go without the rope!

Do you have to have a ballast setup for this? And can you foil without a tower, just get up using the tow hook

Good question. Little to no ballast when learning to control and stay away from the wake/waves. No need for the high tow point but can help when learning to get up.

I think the slow pump theory is pretty sound. But I would also point out that the smoother the water you can get on to learn, the better. I tried in pretty choppy waves the first session out (not to mention, it was really cold!) and while I was able to get on plane, it wiped me out really fast because I spent most of my energy just trying to keep my stability in check.

You've got guts Shaun! I do not see myself attempting to foil switch in the foreseeable future, much less trying to switch WHILE riding. And I've been foiling for three seasons now. Hats off to you sir!
