    They are just singing one of the Associations hits. Kenny Rogers had a very unique voice, will miss him.

    People just do not realize how much artistry and devotion it takes to sing a performance like this on live TV. This was truly an amazing band, who could all play their instruments as well as they sing here. Thanks for posting this!

    This is the first time I heard this version of Cherish. Never followed Kenny Rogers or the 1st edition. Had to read about Mary Arnold Miller by the comments below. That said, when I watched this video and she sang her 2 lines, man, her smile and voice hit me like a ton of bricks and brought back alot of memories of being young.. It's even as if I knew her all my life. Such a nice version of cherish...

    Man Kenny and The First Edition proved They Could Sing As Good and Better than most everyone else and there were some good ones The Association The Turtles Cowsills,Mamas and Papas,Three Dog Night.

    First time I ever heard Mary take a solo on a song. Beautiful voice. She would have had a successful solo career had she wanted to do it. Several years later she would be the wife of Roger Miller staying together until Roger passed away.

      They didn't. That was a joke. The Association made it a hit and one of their members, Terry Kirkman, wrote it.

    For some reason Kenny dropped a whale of a whopper right before singing this song.. Cherish was indeed a big hit for the Associaton, but Kenny wasn't in the group then, or ever, These folks never used top call themselves the Association.. they were, in fact, in large part, the New Christy Minstrels before becoming the First Edition...
    Maybe y'all knew that already.. but I guess in 1971 it was possible to tell almost anything . I guess!

      He was kidding! Everyone at the time would have caught the joke. "Cherish" was an absolutely HUGE hit and everyone knew it was sung by the Association. There was no question that KR was joking here to introduce the song.

    Very nice rendition of this absolute classic.
    However I very, very, VERY much prefer both the version by David Cassidy (which he got to Number Two in the UK Charts and is on David's very first album Cherish)
    and Petula Clark also does an excellent version.

    Dang I didn't know they used to be the association and Kenny Rogers was a member of them Im too young to remember this music except for enjoying it with my mom in the 80s and 90s with her LPs when I was a kid..I really liked this and had no idea ..I honestly liked Kenny's Rogers rock singing better than his pop country

    Listen to Tell It All Brother from late 69. Cherish belongs to the Association. Nobody can beat the original. But Tell It All Brother is all The First Edition.

    I don't understand Kenny making that comment.
    Just check out the association Video, and check their Wik. Page.
    Terry Kirkman wrote this song and as far as I can find,
    not a single member of the First Edition, ever played in the Association.
    Still a great version!

    Kenny was JOKING about 1965 and being a part of the Association. The song was written in 1966 and he was never a part of the Association.

      The assocation was a bonafide musical group who had talented musicians writing actual music dont dismiss them as just another group who stole other groups songs!!!

      @@markruane3660 , The Association was a great group who sang great songs. I was making the point that Kenny was joking when he said the First Addition used to call themselves The Association. They were separate groups and Rogers was only with one of them.

    I think it would be an underestimated, real 'task' to concentrate on your particular harmony. If you stopped for a second to enjoy the combine sound being produced, I think you'd lose vocals & focus. And hazard for getting back on track again.Though they make it look easy.
