People just do not realize how much artistry and devotion it takes to sing a performance like this on live TV. This was truly an amazing band, who could all play their instruments as well as they sing here. Thanks for posting this!
This is the first time I heard this version of Cherish. Never followed Kenny Rogers or the 1st edition. Had to read about Mary Arnold Miller by the comments below. That said, when I watched this video and she sang her 2 lines, man, her smile and voice hit me like a ton of bricks and brought back alot of memories of being young.. It's even as if I knew her all my life. Such a nice version of cherish...
Man Kenny and The First Edition proved They Could Sing As Good and Better than most everyone else and there were some good ones The Association The Turtles Cowsills,Mamas and Papas,Three Dog Night.
First time I ever heard Mary take a solo on a song. Beautiful voice. She would have had a successful solo career had she wanted to do it. Several years later she would be the wife of Roger Miller staying together until Roger passed away.
wow! I never heard this by them before, I was so into The Association back in the day.....this is good but def not The Association....so glad I got see and hear this, Huge Thanks stuart!
For some reason Kenny dropped a whale of a whopper right before singing this song.. Cherish was indeed a big hit for the Associaton, but Kenny wasn't in the group then, or ever, These folks never used top call themselves the Association.. they were, in fact, in large part, the New Christy Minstrels before becoming the First Edition... Maybe y'all knew that already.. but I guess in 1971 it was possible to tell almost anything . I guess!
He was kidding! Everyone at the time would have caught the joke. "Cherish" was an absolutely HUGE hit and everyone knew it was sung by the Association. There was no question that KR was joking here to introduce the song.
Very nice rendition of this absolute classic. However I very, very, VERY much prefer both the version by David Cassidy (which he got to Number Two in the UK Charts and is on David's very first album Cherish) and Petula Clark also does an excellent version.
Dang I didn't know they used to be the association and Kenny Rogers was a member of them Im too young to remember this music except for enjoying it with my mom in the 80s and 90s with her LPs when I was a kid..I really liked this and had no idea ..I honestly liked Kenny's Rogers rock singing better than his pop country
Listen to Tell It All Brother from late 69. Cherish belongs to the Association. Nobody can beat the original. But Tell It All Brother is all The First Edition.
They were never the Association! I don't understand Kenny making that comment. Just check out the association Video, and check their Wik. Page. Terry Kirkman wrote this song and as far as I can find, not a single member of the First Edition, ever played in the Association. Still a great version!
That's boggling me. I thought I was losing it when he said that so I did some research. Kenny was never in the Association. I think he must have been goofing around.
The assocation was a bonafide musical group who had talented musicians writing actual music dont dismiss them as just another group who stole other groups songs!!!
@@markruane3660 , The Association was a great group who sang great songs. I was making the point that Kenny was joking when he said the First Addition used to call themselves The Association. They were separate groups and Rogers was only with one of them.
I think it would be an underestimated, real 'task' to concentrate on your particular harmony. If you stopped for a second to enjoy the combine sound being produced, I think you'd lose vocals & focus. And hazard for getting back on track again.Though they make it look easy.
Kenny, thanks for decorating our lives with your music for so many years.
Man, that rendition certainly didn’t disappoint.
Mary Arnold, wow.met briefly. Lovely person.Fits in this band, group, whatever you want to call it ,perfectly. Kenny? Just brilliant. Love them.
They are just singing one of the Associations hits. Kenny Rogers had a very unique voice, will miss him.

I love the harmonies, they always blended their voices beautifully.
One of my top favorite songs by the Associations Kenny and group did a good job
Never knew that Kenny Rogers was part of the band that sang Cherish from the 1960's! Wow!
I didn't either.

RIP Kenny Rogers.
Kenny knew exactly who to choose for his group, 3 great vocalists, girl is beautiful too.
U Hansome back in 1965and can sing even then, and now, no change, soooo awesome
At one time the original by the Association was the most played song of the 60’s.
Wow! Look at Kenny he was great ! he is missed may he rest in peace .
There's absolutely nothing like how we cherish our one and only true love. Stay safe everyone!
Kenny's harmony at 2:00 is awesome. Love this group.

She also sings Morning has Broken here on Y/T
In this performance Mary flubbed up at the beginning....she sings "Mold" @0.38 instead of "Hold"....
That's not true Mold is use in one of the verses.Google Lyrics to song

At the beginning of THIS song it's "Told you....HOLD you....THEN MOLD you"
Your're right !
Wow another great classic.
AWESOME, 1965 I WAS 13 YRS OF AGE, UNTIL I GOT ONTO YOUR MUSIC IN 1968 AT 17 YRS OF AGE. I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED ALL YOUR SONGS, AND EVEN NOW AND 4 EVER.

Kenny was so handsome.
Fantastic, did not know that they made this a hit, my favorite, TY!!
They didn't. That was a joke. The Association made it a hit and one of their members, Terry Kirkman, wrote it.
RIP Kenny Rogers.it was just broadcast this morn that you had passed to the other side.you will ne greatly remembered and missed

You got me Charlie I've always loved that song but never new it involved the late Kenny Rogers
It didn't. He was joking.
@@sharondavisgreen5135, right, It wasn’t completely obvious, though.
What a great cover😊
I'm now 100% sure that this beautiful sing was a great inspiration to ABBA and the BeeGees

thanks for sharing this
great! thanx 4 posting
I love this song
My late partner was a dead ringer for Kenny Rogers. We lived in NOLA. AT times it could be very unpleasant in restaurants.
Kenny’s brief stint as the mauve storm, what a lovely lady, WoW! Stunning beauty.
Boy, does she ever know what I like.
He was joking about being the Association.
I was wondering about that. I had to look it up, and couldn't find K. Rogers' name anywhere.
He was also joking about them doing it in 1965. Terry Kirkman didn't write it until 1966.
Great job! Congrats!
THEY were The Association? Wow!
great
lol did not know this group sang this song! 😀
That I want you like a thousand other girls, and I need you an I love you ♡
Ilovethissong.
Thelma Camacho has a fantastic voice.
What does he mean "We called ourselves The Association back then"??. None of them were in The Association.
Yeah, I was so confused and did a deep dive trying to find out if that was true and I couldn’t find any connection. Weird. Some inside joke maybe? Idk
Kenny was JOKING about 1965 and being a part of the Association. The song was written in 1966 and he was never a part of the Association.
Mary Arnold is gorgeous
You look Hansome there to Kenny, no wonder u got the womans. Truly LOL
Wow!
I am in high school again.
They did an incredible job of cherish as opposed to I guess the other association …
WOW Sooo Awesome, I love it, C I didn't know you'se called yourself the Association
That's boggling me. I thought I was losing it when he said that so I did some research. Kenny was never in the Association. I think he must have been goofing around.
Terry Kirkman would approve
The Association was a joke, just like when Cass Elliot called Leaving on a Jet Plane "a little song I wrote" when she sang with John Denver
The assocation was a bonafide musical group who had talented musicians writing actual music dont dismiss them as just another group who stole other groups songs!!!

I thought I heard a bass harmony in a few places in this arrangement. Was Kenny singing the bass notes?
A segunda Muito obrigado linda
