He fell into a ditch a long time ago, and he calls it "Christian Hedonism." That is an oxymoron and a tremendous error to misuse words and conflate similar words with varying meanings to push his emotionally driven mysticism theology. He's been leading people into unbiblical error for years but coats it in ambiguity and the winsome ole grandpa act. He's actually more in line with Rome than he is Protestantism because his actions and theology deny the sufficiency of Scripture for a cathartic quasi-antinomian mysticism driven by feelings rather than a faith driven duty to Christ to pursue holiness - regardless of feelings, emotions, or any other spurious notions. Take a closer assessment of his theology, and you'll start realizing it's erroneous.

I don't trust anyone that preaches in a tone and moderation of voice that they don't use in everyday life.
Jon, I know your were looking to forgo this one but glad you did give it a drive by. Repetition is important for those people who aren’t in some large part devoted to this stuff by vocation. Your vocation (calling) is valuable to all of us and your talking through things helps teach and edify us all; we all need the repetition and I know that at times it must become trying or boring. There is a value that your diligent efforts bring to the body; when you see one more person ‘get it’ or come to better develop their worldview, et al; that is God’s usefulness of your faithfulness become manifest in the rest of us. That’s what proper vocation should do; point to Christ! Hang in there my friend.
In my estimation (with over a quarter century in human intelligence and as an operator functioning as a Marine Corps Officer), I would submit to you that John Piper has largely drowned in his passions. His ‘feeeelingsss’ have manifested a divergent path with his theology, but it eludes him because he sees it as a parallel. But the slow creep of half a degree puts you miles off your target when extrapolated. You’re absolutely right, the ‘hedonistic’ epistemology has co-opted and sadly compromised John’s ability to clearly examine, lead, or return to a centered honesty that’s divorced from the parts he added to the gospel born of his intellect and compassion. He’s found exactly what he said he was seeking years ago, but he passed the station named “Joy” and his epistemology is in fact corrupted as you also state. I’ve read John for nearly two decades as you have, but in recent years my reading and listening have actually occupied a raised eyebrow “what’s actually happening here” purpose. I’m not saying his piety is built on pride, but the aim of his piety has taken it out off of what would be a biblically sound worldview. Most notably, I he’s lost his grasp on the full complimentary host of God’s attributes and his revelation. Love you brother, Keep rocking, and Happy Thanksgiving.

You nailed it. Piper's gospel is based on HIS intellect and compassion. He truly needs to repent because he is enabling a "Christian hedonism." The fact that he embraces those very words speaks volumes.
Unity from Lefty always means compromised version of Gospel and truth. Honestly I have not met any big church denominations who has not compromised yet. At this point John mcarther ,voddie bauchem and Douglas Wilson is only few people I can think of who are not compromised yet.

What is so special about John MacArthur? He seems like a curmudgeon to me. He was respectful while being interviewed by Ben Shapiro. I was curious because our nephew and his brother in law were studying MacArthur’s work. My nephew let me know it was not for women so I haven’t even tried to listen to him. When he insisted on opening “his” church, I think it was too early. Our church had services for a month or so on-line but now we are back in person. Many of the congregation have been tested or have had covid or have been vaccinated now. The cushions have been placed on every other bench. We know that’s where we should sit, leaving every other bench empty. There is somebody to take our temperature and offer us gel before we enter. The pastor has asked people not to make fun of those who still prefer to wear masks, even during the service. I usually wear one as I enter and leave.
Excellent teachers and faithful to God's Word. I only know Macarthur and Voddie.
@@annbrucepineda8093 MacArthur is a solid biblical teacher. He correctly divides the Word of truth. God's word says to meet together all the more as we see the day approaching. It's doesn't say stop in case of Covid. The church stayed open in the Spanish flu and throughout history believers always stayed during plagues and ministered to the sick and dying. And if wearing a mask gets people to church. Great. Just be in a body where God's word is truly taught. Alot of false teachers are out there.

Exactly!!! My mom and family moved to Canada when she was an adolescent. A red head, German Canadian Lutheran, marries my American Dutch Protestant Reformed dad, moving countries yet again.
Yet I was told by my bible study leader than bc I didnt grow up in a DIVERSE community, I don't understand her heart for diversity, unity, and kingdom work. She has talked to people who have experianced things.

The early church was made up of actual slaves mixed with homemakers, soldiers and wealthy people (who even owned slaves), yet they were't given the woke instructions that GODLESS people of today made up.
I think “ethnic groups” is a better way to describe people who have preserved their ancestral traditions and value them. Right now, it is impossible to say who is a member of which “race”. Are we not all of one blood?

As a 53 year old Christian white man (by GOD's providential sovereign will/decision/design)- who grew up being a racist (due to my environment and neighborhood) and then over time through having personal friendships with non white people, and of course finally overcoming this sin when I came to have a saving faith in Jesus Christ- it astounds me that Christians do not understand that our identity is in Jesus Christ first and foremost and not in the skin color that GOD (through His providential sovereign will) chose for us from the beginning of time. When I hear pastors like Dr. John Piper (who I used to deeply respect) talk about this issue of racism in the manner that the does I just want to tell him that his focus is completely on the wrong things/areas and that he needs to reread the N.T. Bible passages about the church being one in Christ (see Romans 12:4-5, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:27-29, and Colossians 3:11). I also wonder how many sermons he has preach over the years telling his congregation to focus first and foremost on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and everything else within our Christian lives and churches will naturally fall into place. If you are white and do not struggle with the sin of racism then this is a non issue for you. Which means that it should be a non issue for Dr. John Piper as well and he should be very comfortable and confident in that because I am- even though I used to be a racist. Unless of course he struggles with the sin of racism then that is another issue.

First, I want to thank you for your honest response. Secondly, I am a 55-year-old Latino who grew up in the “Hood”, the Humboldt Park area of Chicago’s Westside. I grew up having racist attitudes towards whites and blacks, mainly because of my gang affiliation. I didn’t experience systemic racism, I experienced full on racism from both white and blacks which mostly took the form of a physical altercations; either chasing whites and blacks or being chased by whites and blacks. I engaged in racial slur name-calling and also received it in return. However, as you eloquently stated it wasn’t more knowledge it wasn’t more education, but it was my salvation in Jesus Christ and the renewing of my mind that led me out of the sin of racism, bitterness, and hatred that’s was so deeply embedded in my soul. When I speak out against CRT, I am called a Race Trader, an Uncle Tom, or Sell Out. I find myself a “minority” within the minority group that CRT/Intersectionality labels me - quite the irony.

I will tell you that after speaking with, and being around, many different people of all different types/kinds of cultures, races, ethnicity’s, and skin colors racism is problem in all of these different people groups. It may be more prevalent in some over others, but still it is a problem. We just disguise it under the word “nationalism.”
This sin problem of racism started first with Adam and Eves first sin that was then transferred and imputed onto all of mankind. And then after Noah and the Biblical flood, Noah’s 3 sons then scattered throughout the many different regions of the world and this was the beginning of all of the different cultures, races, ethnicity’s, and skin colors; which naturally lead to the sin of racism.
I understand why non believers do not understand this because their hearts/minds are still enslaved to sin and naturally (because of their sinful nature) do not know and understand this Biblical, historical truth. But what amazes me is those who claim to be followers and disciples of Jesus Christ, who should know the Biblical history account of mankind and sin, have fallen for, and have had their hearts/minds deceived by, this lie from satan.
I spoke to one brother in Christ 3 years ago at a pastors conference about this issue of racism (and this brother is an American pastor and his father and mother immigrated to the USA from Nigeria, Africa) and he attempted to tell me that (we) white people are the biggest racists. He even then lead the conversation to Adolf Hitler and was basically telling me that only Adolf Hitler could happen in western white cultures. He said this because I told him that the sins of racism and slavery have been prevalent throughout the history of mankind, and in every culture, going back to Adam and Eves first sin).
He obviously does not know his history very well, nor his Bible, because we can find Adolf Hitler’s in many different cultures throughout the history of mankind.
Because we were at a pastors conference, and he was one of the key speakers, I just walked away from the conversation because for one I was astounded that he would think this way and secondly because I knew that this conversation was about to turn into a nasty argument.

@@michaelg.tucker6363 The experience you described with them gentleman from Nigeria is sadly no longer the exception but has now become the rule, or quickly becoming the rule in main stream in evangelicalism. Voddie B, John Mc. and others have lamented that CRT is a fight not over the inerrancy of the Scriptures but rather the sufficiency of scripture. If we frame the argument in that sense perhaps we can draw attention to the dangers of CRT ideology that is permeating the American church.

Especially in a time when many who claim to be Christians are embracing liberal theology and a Marxist perversion of Christianity. May we never go the way of Europe here in America. Though I fear that is where we are heading, if we are not already there right now.

I seen it coming long ago with Piper I didn't really know what CRT was but what he was saying was leftist a lot of times and people would get mad at me when I pointed out Piper sounded like a leftist. I still stand by that he is a leftist in most everything except abortion but I am sure he will be allowing female elders soon and be pro choice soon. When he said he wouldn't defend his wife I removed him and his materials from my blog and from my social media accounts.

The thing about the Left is that once you sit down and buckle up to their way of thinking, it takes you all the way to the end of the line and if you try to get off before it stops, well, we all know what happens to people who jump out of moving vehicles. Christians who think they can appease them and throw them a bone here and there are going to be in for a rude awakening, because they minute you push back on anything they preach, they will hate you much more fiercely than they do the Christian who never played around to begin with.

John Piper is a good man and should be honored for the work he does. He grew up in Greenville SC, in an church that didn't allow whites to merry blacks and he considered it normal growing up. In light of his background please give him grace. I listened to both of his responses on CRT and he discagrees with tenants that Bible fundamentally disagrees with, other aspects of CRT are perhaps more nuanced.

Regarding all off these cries of systemic racism I personally believe it's part of the big lie that Satan is using in these days. Most people (of any race) will say in their day to day lives they do not see examples of racism. Sure there are racists. There are racists in every race, every political persuasion. But they are not the norm. I feel it is lazy logic, poor critical thinking, to assume every negative interaction between humans of different races is due to racism. This lie was used greatly when Obama was President. If you didn't like his politics or his policies they cried racism. Ridiculous. Most conservatives would have been happy to see Condoleeza Rice or Allen West or a number of other black individuals as President. Crying racism was just a lazy excuse for not being able to better defend bad policies. A law enforcement officer shooting a black man that is Fighting, resisting arrest and armed is not automatically racist. Abuse of power is not necessarily racist just because the one with power and the one abused were different races. It is more likely a person that tends to abuse power and they would abuse that power against anyone, no matter the race. If a black person assumes every disagreement, every negative experience, if the other person is white, is negative before of racism that's insane. If you can have the same negative interactions with those of your own race it only follows that it's possible to have the same negative interactions with people of different races. I refuse to own systemic racism. It's a lie.

Is it not interesting that the firstling of an ass is in the same verse with firstborn man? I have listened to John Piper in the past. He seems to be an extremely emotional intellectual. As with all of us, even an intellectual can be used of God when he has been redeemed and mounted by Jesus; Matthew 21:5

If you can sit down with black friends who are strong Christians and talk with them about their experiences, and then come away from that still believing that white Americans and black Americans do not have consistently different experiences in many cases, then you earned your POV. That's just reality. I oppose CRT as neo-separatism, and I reject any ideology that elevates race to a place of unwarranted importance, particularly in the body of Christ. But none of that means that I get to reject facts that don't fit my narrative, whatever it is. If others want to warp those facts into a heresy, I'll contend with the heresy.

Nonetheless, I get your point; those who agree with JM on most core issues do not necessarily agree with JM on everything. Likewise, SJW's and CRT proponents do not agree on everything, but that does not mean that they are not SJW's and CRT proponents.
If someone believes the core tenets of CRT derived from the definition (you gave an excellent definition), then he or she is a proponent of CRT regardless of how much they claim to disagree on side issues. Interestingly, Piper begins his discussion on the importance of definitions only to ignore CRT's definition entirely in Part 1. He even says in Part 2 that we need "to get our definitions clear up front." He then quotes some of CRT's goals without ever truly giving a concise definition up front or anywhere else. Consequently, he is baffled by some of the conclusions derived by CRT regarding homosexuality and Biblical inerrancy.

Piper doesn’t believe that Christians are capable of doing any work to obtain their salvation, so why the switch to having to do the work of anti racism to gain “salvation” in the eyes of CRT? Either Jesus is sufficient to save us from all of our sins and to change our hearts and minds, or he isn’t. CRT denies the sufficiency of Christ.

My opinion is that John Piper at bottom does not understand the nature of sin and therefore does not really understand the full nature of the gospel and the mystery of the church. To give any credit to CRT is to say that the world has some insight into the true nature of sin. The fact is that the unbelieving world and many professing Christians do not take seriously that until a person, regardless of skin color or culture, really believes on Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, they are both lost to God and dead in trespasses and sins. CRT is really a denial of the biblical truth about our sinful and lost condition. The world and its desires (including a desire to bypass the necessity of individual salvation and redemption through Christ) are passing away, but he that does the will of God abides for eternity. The apostle John also stated that "the whole world lies in the wicked one."
John Piper apparently does not accept that the unbeliever is lost and is blind to his rebellion against God. So then, in his view, we must some how address the concerns of a christ rejecting world and its system of thought. This only obscures the true nature of the human condition before God and the righteous claim the Creator and Savior God has on mankind through His son Jesus Christ.

The word (πραεις) is meek, not weak; and it does not connote whimpy and whiny, quite the opposite, in fact. It connotes one who does not "need" to be gentle, because he can totally kick some butt, but chooses, in obedience, to be gentle instead. Meek certainly does not leave room for a man to allow his wife to be assaulted.
You are correct to use the weak, though, in the sense that Piper is a weak man. He isn't going to stand by and permit his wife to sexually assaulted because he's meek. He's going to do that because he knows he doesn't have what it takes, physically or spiritually to do a damned thing about it.

Piper exhibits the greatest arrogance. His Calvinism has led him to believe God must determine good and evil to be Sovereign. Therefore, he can say whatever he wants because, in the end, it has been determined by the Sovereign will of God. In his arrogance and determinism, he could never bring himself to conclude God has determined to use him as a vessel of evil, therefore he is good and those challenging him are evil. Also, in determinism, there is no accountability.
Why does it take so long to get to John Piper's words. Culture and Faith, must be thought through. " The more dominant the culture is. . The more invisible I t is to us." All examination of cultural anthropology is not the same as CRT.
You must operationslize CRT, in the first 30 seconds. Do not take so long on your critique of Piper, you need to outline your own I into more clearly amd concisely.
