And I have no doubt he could have done it.
Hello, dear Liz. I was hoping you'd react to this one, my friend. The lyrics are exactly right for us softies. lol ☺ Tom Jones is a consummate singer and he can do pretty much any style with aplomb. Blues to Jazz to R&B to Rock to beautiful Ballads like this one. As you noted, his voice is amazing. His control, his breathing, coupled with an innate ability to understand phrasing make a wonderful push and pull with our emotions that few can do. One thing he's doing here that feels like a lost lesson for modern singers is that he's not singing to show off his voice. Instead, he's feeling the groove of the sentiment and allowing it to flow through him. Let the song be about the song, not the singer. He's feeling it and we feel his pain, be extension. Lyrically, who hasn't felt this at some point in their lives? A disastrous relationship ending in a very painful breakup makes us initially swear to never try to love again. Thankfully, the pain passes and we hope to have learned more about ourselves in the process and what we need to make ourselves happy. Very astute of you to notice the strings and the backing singers. While they're not front and centre, both provide the perfect setting for Tom to layer his vocals over. The backing voices only sing four sustained notes, but the tone is of sadness and creates the drama that Jones' lead vocals don't need to. Meanwhile, the string section adds fills that lightly accent the tone of the lyrics. Overall, it's a wonderful piece of studio production from someone who understands how much is enough without too much to overpower the lead singer. Interestingly, this song was co-written by Lonnie Donegan, who was a huge Skiffle/Folk star in the UK in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It was Donegan's massive popularity that inspired thousands of UK kids to learn guitar and begin their careers in music. Most notably, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Hollies, The Searchers, and almost every single other group of the British Invasion of 1964 that changed music forever. Without Donegan, few of these immense talents would have become the influence they are over almost everything we've listened to for the past 60 years. Take care and stay safe, Liz. Thank you, as always, for another entertaining reaction ☺☺♥♥

Tom Jones Wow! what a beautiful powerful voice! I knew as soon as he started singing Liz You face would smile ! He has the ability to get into your emotional side ! I’ve seen probably 20 other reactions of this and every one was emotional! Yours was by far the best ! You can feel his pain and the beauty of his voice with the orchestra is just on point! So happy you did this reaction video. Take a look at treat her right! Omg the dance moves on this guy , you think someone slipped a hit of Acid on the microphone! Like what a different time ! Kissing the girls on the lips in the audience 😳 Thanks again for a great reaction!

I saw an interview a while back with Tom Jones. No exaggeration he took a sip of water every minute or so for the entire hour. Took great care of his voice. Total pro. Dancing as well. Total package. And definitely ladies loved him. Elvis even knew it. The Voice
like the split nature of this song... he sings "I never gonna fall in love" buts truly he sings FALL IN LOVE repeatedly.... its like a mental fight of someone trying to avoid the pain of love, but is really slipping back into LOVE again... clever writing....the emphasis on never fall in love gives way to love...
You need to hear Tom Jones sing It's Not Unusual on The Voice UK 2021. He will be 81 years old this year and can still belt out as if he were in his thirties. You Tube has the video! A Must.

I met Tom Jones 6 times, twice , in the late 1970s, the my Godmother/auntie took me, then in late 1980s 4 times... I'd live to see him again!! I got a kiss twice from Tom!! Also women used to throw thier panties on stage, I'm sure my auntie did every time she seen him!!! She seen him the first time in 1967.

That's no lip-synch or voice over....that is LIVE. Sir Tom is so good!

Remember in 1967 there was no auto tune, his voice is really this good.

Beautiful Song. Beautiful Comments. Beautiful Woman.
Thank you 😭💗
Sir Tom Jones ladies and gentlemen ‼️
This is a mans man. Tom can still smash this into hearts even at 80+ yrs on Mother Earth.
We all saw you fall into mesmerizing whims when Tom hit them notes 😆
Tom Jones Wow! what a beautiful powerful voice! I knew as soon as he started singing Liz
You face would smile ! Kissing the girls on the lips in the audience 😳
Thanks again for a great reaction!
😭😭💗 thank you so much!! It really pulls at me when singers put their all into the song and it’s more of a moment than a performance if that makes sense. & I’ll have to check it out soon! Thanks again 💗
Hey Liz! Exactly about the moment! Tommy’s all in ( at that moment) And all these years later
We can listen to a great moment in time ! 👍🏻🔥 music is so powerful!
There's an episode of the voice UK where he does this as a duet with Lonnie Donnagan's son
perfect reaction do understand you been listening too him for 35yrs he still can sing with that power.
I grew up listening to Tom Jones, he has an amazing voice. He still has an amazing voice at 80 something years old. Listen to him sing Delilah, I love your reaction....
Thank you 💗💗
Tom Jones set the bar when it comes to singing. He was and still is the best in the business. No one, and I mean no one comes up to him in vocal ability, they don't even come close. He's the absolute best singer, hands down!John Guinto
I saw an interview a while back with Tom Jones. No exaggeration he took a sip of water every minute or so for the entire hour. Took great care of his voice. Total pro. Dancing as well. Total package. And definitely ladies loved him. Elvis even knew it. The Voice
Legend ❤️ He is 80 now, and can still sing just as good to this day ❤️
Powerful voice. Ps. U have the most mesmerizing eyes
I noticed that too, quite stunning actually. I'm also wondering if she wear contact too???!!!
Just love when the youngins hear our music
Love listening 😭💗
True Greatness!!
There is only one Tom Jones, what a talent he is...........:-)
I'm old , and I love , Tom Jones , and I'm so impressed with your reaction that I just subscribed
You have such beautiful eyes
Tom has a fantastic natural voice. He makes so easy
like the split nature of this song... he sings "I never gonna fall in love" buts truly he sings FALL IN LOVE repeatedly.... its like a mental fight of someone trying to avoid the pain of love, but is really slipping back into LOVE again... clever writing....the emphasis on never fall in love gives way to love...
You need to hear Tom Jones sing It's Not Unusual on The Voice UK 2021. He will be 81 years old this year and can still belt out as if he were in his thirties. You Tube has the video! A Must.
Oh wow I don’t really watch the voice but I think I’ve seen a clip I didn’t realize it was him!
It was an amazing show to watch. Tom is the GOAT!
You described the dynamic balance in this musical vocal performance very well with the strings pulling and Mr. Jones releasing them.
Thank you 💗💗💗
He was Elvis Presley’s good friend, there are pictures of them vacationing in Hawaii, Many other great Tom Jones songs.
What you said about the strings made perfect sense & that explanation was beautiful.
4-13-21: Great post Lizzie! Now I know why my moms would make me any brothers watch the "This is Tom Jones" show circa 1969 or 1970; i.e.; his voice makes all the ladies swoon.
Great reaction ! He is the best . Thank you.
Another classic song that you might like by Tom Jones is called "She's a Lady" .
My favorite!!
The mold was definitely broken after Tom Jones was born! That man has pipes!
For a treat Lizzie Tom is a coach on uk The Voice 80 years old ! Same vocals. This song written by Lonnie Donegan for Tom in 1960s watch Tom sing it with peter son of Lonnie on voice uk
Love to see younger people appreciating older music, great reaction.
Love this reaction Liz, thank you.
I hope that you're feeling better now?
Eh lol I’ll get there soon! Thank you 💗
You are so cute!! Tom Jones STILL sounds as fantastic now, as he did back then!!
Aww thank you so much and that’s amazing!! 💗💗💗
this guy is in his 80's and sounds amazing still
You gotta check out She's a lady , Delilah, and Treat her right all the live versions!!! Loved your reactions!
He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth as Sir Tom Jones. Tom Still has it at 80 years old.
