- Neuroscientists at the University of Texas in Austin have figured out a way to translate scans of brain activity into words using the very same artificial intelligence technology that powers the groundbreaking chatbot ChatGPT. CNN's Donie O'Sullivan reports. #CNN #News
Ok this is becoming scary pretty damn fast.
Very dangerous technology
A device that reads people's minds means 0 privacy . The government or 3rd parties can literally see what you're thinking.
This is more and more looking like a world I don’t want to live in.
But u already do says AI
You won't have to if you repent and accept Jesus as your savior. Obey Him and you shall be saved. Read Revelation, this shouldn't be a suprise.
@@IamaproudChristian22 True mind reading will never be possible. Not even the god of this world can truly read our minds. Only God can read our minds. Many people think that telepathy is mind reading but it's not mind reading at all. When God speaks aurally to us, it's a form of telepathy but the devil makes much more use of this to harm human souls. It's sad that so few Christians know about this. - My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: Hosea 4:6 KJV
Nothing good could come, from reading other people's minds!
Exactly
Thought police approve this message.
Just wait until they scan peoples brains while showing them an image of a politician or policy, and whether you like or dislike that politician or policy and if you have the wrong reaction, they’ll ostracize you from society. Lol 😂

AI like Gpt technologies will surely impact our way of life, particularly our ability to sort out authentic videos from fake ones. This would be a major concern/problem in the future 🧐
I hate that i am old and wont see how this story ends
How do you know that you will be dead?
All meaningful change will happen over the course of generations.
We lived through smartphones and trump. That’s pretty good.
You don’t want to know how it will end.

We've all seen movies of translators pranking people with incorrect translation. This could end up bad.
That's exactly what I was thinking! This is going to wind up causing big problems later on just like these "deep fake" videos.
It's not a translation it's a projection of a model back onto the person who created the model. It's self-awareness inverted.

How is f*cking A.I. going to "read my mind" when I can't read my own mind?
Your comment is the plot of my favorite novel 'A Scanner Darkly' by Philip K Dick, it's a movie with Keanu Reeves. The answer is, it isn't able to without the question of which of the visions is 'sane' coming into the foreground.
This is in its infancy. We’ve gone too far and there’s no turning back.

Early language based A.I. famously translated 'The spirit was willing but the flesh was weak' AS 'The vodka is good, but the meat is rotten'. "The real application of this" is hyperpowered corporate backed infofarmed bureacracy makes more and more important decisions with increasinly less actual insight and radical understanding.
It will read your mind but when someone ask what you were thinking it will respond with: “As an AI language model, I strive to provide helpful and informative responses…” Because ya’ll be sick in the head.
Imagine if a sexy nurse points this at a test patient and it just starts talking dirty in Steven Hawking's voice. Imagine the technological possibilities!
So if you are constantly connected to an mri machine someone can read your mind… okay so to prevent that don’t be constantly hooked up to an mri machine ?
It’s all signal transmission of code. We’re training the computer to decode and process. The human mind and functions we perform are massive and believe that we subconsciously limit these advances.
Contrarily, I have recently considered that the internet functions as a 'collective id' in its present form to counter the old idea of 'collective consciousness', These advances will lead nowhere. This 'tech' can potentially 'model' thought based on thought put into programming code designed to model thought based on that program. We are all suffering from reductionism and the destruction of spirit from technology. This just leads us to reductio absurdum.

can this be used for interrogation?
It can be used in a broad - general sweep through facial recognition and analysis of body language to analyitically 'determine' all types of things about people in public and their machine-predicted moods, intentions, and general mental character. Like in a mall it can send you target ads the moment you look towards a screen wall as it best determines what product you may like to purchase this day, kind consumer.

This is very concerning and I honestly think this research should be banned (or at least put on hold) unless we want to live in an actual dystopia where thought police are real...
If they only combined that with drone tech to build telekinesis, that would rock!
so ai could read our thoughts
All this technology needs to do is be able to detect yes and no. From there any question could be asked and your brain couldn't lie. So in theory this could be used to interrogate anyone and know if they are lying.
Yes. It could be used during police calls on sight. Or while on the stand in the courtroom. (If the PTB even bother with courtrooms and legal rights in the near future). At the site of the crime, you'll be ordered to don the special helmet. Which tracks your words, thoughts, and feelings. Also they may have you sip a special drink, or unknowingly breath in a special gas. Which will get you talking honestly. Or during visits to dentist. They put you under and ask you everything you thought, felt, and did, since your last visit.
The future is FUBAR. And for some of us the future is now.

- 3:11 What? No. Of course you can't walk down the street and have someone hold up a device to read your mind. First of all, you JUST saw that it requires hours of brain-scans to train the AI. Second, a world where people have handheld devices that can perform _MRIs_ is a world where AI is the least of your worries. 😒

Cut to a week later - All of us are flailing around and hugging the walls like Diana Troy having an overload of psychic noise.
I wrote a short story about this tech applied to a ranged 'reader' like a cop uses for radar for speeding cars. The military gave it to soldiers on the battlefield and they stopped fighting one another because they saw the enemy as a human with thoughts and feelings. So the military told the developers to alter the translation so the soliders would continue killing one another. When the inventor cried 'why not use it so we might understand one another' - The military man 'silences' him, and the last line is, "if I wanted your opinion... I wouldn't ask"
Or was it 'If I wanted your opinion... I'd beat it out of you'... can't remember the details. It wasn't published.
the last line was: “if i want your opinion i would read yr mind, if i want to change your i’d overwrite it”
This is the exact plot of a black mirror episode

To train AI to "mind read", it might be better to train it on things originating from the person being scanned, not something coming from outside, like an audiobook they're listening to.
For example, they could talk and/or type while they are being scanned.
but thats what the researcher says, its not - yet - trained on that particular individual. So imagine in 10 years, whatever you are thinking, thanks to a portable headset that may perform a scan, can provide you with real-time conversation if you are mute. Or an AI assistant, plugged in to your wheelchair or accessibilitiy device. like an iPhone, and this particular Ai is trained on your brain!
They're training the AI model on the person being scanned based on what he is listening to, which will serve as a point of reference for comparisons between it and what the AI model thinks he said. Tweaks can be made along the training iterations until a decent accuracy is achieved. If they train the model on thoughts originating from him, there would be no way for them to confirm if what he says he was thinking was true because they can't see it. In the case of the audiobook, everybody can listen to it and verify what it actually played.
I get what David is saying, that is a brilliant idea imo. The AI could compare what is being said or typed to what is being scanned to help study the brain.
train it to self implode and cease to exist
Time to amend the constitution to ban mind reading.. no mind reading
If a scientist points at a screen and says 'this is your soul' do the same thing one does when one meets the Buddha on the road.
This is terrible now my high school guidance counselor might well find out that I have pervasive unwanted thoughts about becoming a cannibal and working at Dennys to feed people human meat on the sly.
Can you read my mind? Do you know what it is you do to me? I don't know who you are. Just a friend from another star.
“What does a scanner see? he asked himself. I mean, really see? Into the head? Down into the heart? Does a passive infrared scanner like they used to use or a cube-type holo-scanner like they use these days, the latest thing, see into me - into us - clearly or darkly? I hope it does, he thought, see clearly, because I can't any longer these days see into myself. I see only murk. Murk outside; murk inside. I hope, for everyone's sake, the scanners do better. Because, he thought, if the scanner sees only darkly, the way I myself do, then we are cursed, cursed again and like we have been continually, and we'll wind up dead this way, knowing very little and getting that little fragment wrong too.”
― Philip K. Dick, A Scanner Darkly

New York's mayor needs to use this to decide which citizens are sane and should be locked away, involuntarily commited to mental hospitals. Yes, it all makes sense now.

One is reminded of an old tech known as 'a gun' - works the same way - you point it at someone's head, pull the trigger and suddenly YOU know what is inside THEIR head.
Honestly, I think something like this already exists on some sort of level. I don't know how or what but I've literally thought things in my mind and never uttered a word and yet, minutes later I see advertising on my phone or tablet for said thing I thought of. No searches were done of these things, nor were they spoken about out loud, so there's no way of my devices knowing. I spoke to several people in a conversation on IG about this occurrence afterwards and they said the same things happen to them. It's just weird and seems too frequent for a coincidence. Idk 😐🤔
You were influenced over time and your thought was planted by things you encountered over days and weeks. Then you think it’s a coincidence when really they planted thoughts in your head from things you read or listened to etc
In 2005, one of my HS teachers who worked for the Government had predicted this.
@@user-kh9wt9qz2u some people have said they're getting ads from things they spoken about outloud though. So the phone records conversations which is technically spying. A device that reads people's minds means 0 privacy . The government or 3rd parties can literally see what you're thinking.
@@user-kh9wt9qz2u Unfortunately, no, these were very , very specific, obscure
things related to personal stuff. There's no way they could've been planted in my head. As I mentioned, it wasn't anything I would've searched or read etc. Say, for example...thinking I really need to replace my old towels..then all I see are advertisements for towels on everything. Or needing to find a lawyer for a very specific, rare situation and then I see videos and adverts for that type of lawyer. There were other instances but I can't recall right now. These probably weren't the best examples but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. I know the devices listen to sounds and conversations because I'll play with my kid pretending to be a cat mewing or barking like a dog, then I'll see constant advertisements for pet food 😂.We have no pets.
