Since the Fenty pans are magnetic I would suggest evacuating the unwanted shadow from the remaining two pans and saving the pans for when you do want to save a cracked shade.
Please please do an... “If I made an eyeshadow pallet” Take singles, arrange them on colorful paper, make a cute name, as if you were allowed to design a pallet!
I've done that with my 8 Clionadh shimmers! I've created two custom 4-pans (using ABH empty palettes from Sephora) I call "Winter Garden" and "Roses Under Ice". I just made little handwritten labels and put them on the back, nothing fancy. I admit I get a kick out of seeing them!
I tend to use high end products most of the time, including eyeshadow palettes. But watching you depotting these pans reminds me that so much of the cost of high end makeup is in its packaging. If I were to depot Dior shadows, for example, and put them into an empty palette full of a variety of singles, you'd never know the difference in price. It makes you think!
Yeah, that's why I stopped going for high end products unless it was a famously good product. Just like how I don't impulse buy new eyeshadow palettes anymore or really any makeup for that matter. I just bought my first new eyeshadow palette since covid started 😳 and I am a pro at using the palettes I do have now, I know them inside and out.
Now that you have it as a "single," I just want to share that I've used that yellow matte from the Zulu as a blush. I wanted to try yellow blush without having to go out and buy a new blush that I might not like and that shadow worked beautifully.
Huh, that makes me want to use the hot pink and orange from the Festival that I have as blushes. Might be a bit too pigmented for my pasty pasty skin, but it might just look really cool. Thanks!
I used to work for Z palette, so I went through an intense phase of de-potting all my shadows. It’s certainly not for everyone or every palette but I DEFINITELY recommend it for face shadows. It’s so tedious that every blush, contour, highlight etc come in separate compacts. I have all my everyday face products de-potted into a medium palette and I love it so much.

I don't depot my shadows as I've found throughout the years that I don't use them after I do it. However, I LOVE watching depotting videos! I loved this one!
I just got done having a panic attack about student loans and I decided to go to bed early (for me, 10 pm is early) (also I'm not actually going to bed I'm just laying IN bed) and this is the perfect video to calm me down and take my mind off of things for awhile. Thank you Lauren. You are a gem and a light in this world and your videos entertain me to no end! Thank you and I hope you have an amazing week!
If you crush up a matte shade very finely so it's a smooth powder and then cut a piece of cardboard into a square shape that will fit all the edges of the square pan, you can press it back in the pan good as new. I honestly didn't think it would ever work, but so far I've been able to fix every broken matte I ever had without liquid. It's "dry pressing method" I saw from Faces of Gina video. Well, I don't remember if Gina cut cardboard into the pan shapes. That might have been a me thing. lol. It would be better if you have an object that already fits the pan, but sturdy cardboard works for me too.
Would love to see you depot some palettes with plastic casing. For example, I’m trying to figure out how to depot my Huda retrograde palette. I haven’t started yet cause I can’t find any videos about how to do it in such industrial strength plastic packaging. I’ve done plenty of cardboard and softer plastic packaging, but retrograde seems like the boss round 🤣
This is totally worth vid because you are not just destroying the random items but dissemble them in a proper way of recycling. Love love love this video, please come up with more series🥰😍
I would definitely try acetone for the cleaning, it is a stronger solvent than isopropyl alcohol! I'm so sad the pastel shade you specifically pointed out is the one that died... I do wish you had tried repressing it since you literally had the rubbing alcohol right there, you could have just tried pressing it by hand. Worst case scenario it went in the trash (where it went anyway), best case scenario you saved the shade, learned a new way of doing something and got extra content for the video haha!
I like when palettes are laid out in however rainbow layout they can be...In a way that makes sense, you know? Let ME be the creative one. Sometimes I can't just look at a funky laid out palette and figure out what to do because of the way it is laid out
Depotted, you couldn't tell to which palette these shadows belong to ! I love these videos as well as the duping other palettes type of videos, they're my favourites.
If I ever get a cracked or busted shadow, I will crush them up into a fine powder, often mixing with similar shades in a small jar and just use loose shadow. No need to repress and you can make your own unique shades this way. I frequently use these more than pressed shadows and have just learned to really tap off the excess.
I was rearranging my singles in my magnetic palettes today too! I finally broke apart my trusty ABH contour kit which I received 6 years ago 😭 lmaoo and inside was a nice fat magnet which I can use for a diy magnetic palette that can hold even more eyeshadows...
I appreciate the swatches! It really adds to the experience. I'm super late to the party, but you can also use Krud Kutter, Goo Gone, or even orange oil to remove the glue and residue. 💙
I like to use those little alcohol swabs for cleaning the glue, the texture of them helps get the glue off a lot easier than qtips. Also a tweezer is really nice to just peel off the glue once it softens a bit.
I have depotted those Illamasqua singles before. They’re a bit like MAC packaging - you can pop out the top layer of plastic and heat it to melt the glue.
all of your single shadow videos, whether it's rearranging, decluttering, duping, or just making your own palette vids, are my favorites. They are so inspiring and relaxing. Would love to see you work on the Ace Beaute one and to see what color combos you can create with your expanded collection
I love these type of videos! I hope to depot my entire eyeshadow collection eventually. The idea of having the power to rearrange colors myself is so alluring. I just need magnetic palettes first😅. One thing that might be good to try is to spray the shadows with alcohol before you remove the pans. If the shadows are damp they will be less likely to crack and crumble.
When I shatter mattes, I crush them up on wax paper (like really chop them up with a credit card), fold the paper like a taco and pour 1/3 to 1/2 of the powder at a time back into the pan. Repress dry by covering the powder with a paper towel and pressing with a coin or the bottom of something hard. I find this works so much better than trying to mix with alcohol!
I love depotting! I've taken apart a couple Juvia's Place palettes and they're the easiest to do in my opinion...but when I got the pans...man. They feel more like plastic and bend so easily. I had a few cracks in my shades just like yours.
Have been waiting for this since your declutter videos!! I’ve been doing much of the same with some of my Colourpop and Juvia’s palettes! Your videos are so satisfying 💜
When I wanted to depot a palette in plastic packaging, I found a video that recommended holding a hair dryer to the back of the packaging for maybe a minute or so to loosen the glue first. I tried that, then went in carefully with a palette knife from the front, and it worked really well!
Watching you depot the Juvia's place palette had me dealing with some feelings. I have a Juvia's place palette (mine is the Festival) that I love some of the shades and I almost never use them because most of the shades are more pigmented and bright than I usually want to deal with. But I can't bring myself to depot it, because the packaging is so pretty, and also the arrangement of those particular bright shades is just so aesthetically pleasing to me! I hope that it helps you use it more, because I really love their formula, and feel bad that I don't use it more.
I wish I could figure out how to depot the dose of colors palettes. I have the marvelous mauves and the cool toned one that I know would get use if I could put put pans with other singles
I'd definitely need to get a large empty palette but I've been thinking of depotting my Juvia's place shadows... Well the larger pans. I have the Zulu, Warrior 2 and Nubian 2 with large pans. I'm thinking I could make a ton of quads with those shades
Tarte is having a sell and has some medium/largish magnetic palettes for 5 and 9 bucks. I got one for 9 a few weeks ago it's a hexagon but it fits my four j.d. glows shadows well. Plus you could get four for $20 and probably still have a little room.
You're depoting method is so much cleaner and organized. I just shove a fondue pick between the pan and the packaging and pop it out. If theres any glue i pick at it with my fingers and then stick them in my z palette lmao
I recently depotted 3 or 4 palettes, including the same Fenty one. I don't buy a lot of palettes each year, but even buying only 4 or so... They still add up!
Glad to know someone does something similar to me. I 'm a mutant that doesn't like pallets. I've rehomed several, keeping only four smaller pallets by BH. I do have numerous magnetic pallets arranged by color, shade, and undertone. (Yes, I took art classes. ;) ) To date, I have 313 pans from singles I've bought and pallets I have de-potted. BTW: I purchased some empty de-potting pans and magnetic stickers. They come in hand from time to time. Also, if a pan shatters, a few drops of alcohol can set it right. I also have plenty pans, round and square, and adhesive backs for pans that aren't magnetic. I found them online. It is also fun sometimes to mix colors. Some are real winners, some not so much. Delighted to find you.
Lately I've been into "duping the vibes" whenever I want a new palette. I didn't buy the Flower Punk or Millennial Pinx, for example, cuz I knew I had the shades already. It was the unique arrangement of the shades (the color story) that was tempting me - not because the shadows themselves were anything special. I want to get the most use out of what I already own rather than be tempted to buy new all the time. It keeps me from overconsuming and allows me to make wiser purchases. Like I just ordered the You Beauty palette from Glaminatrix, and I could actually afford the heavy price because I haven't bought any palettes in a while. So I am a big advocate for depotting. But you're right, make sure it's what you want and that you'll actually use the shadows, because once you start tearing your palette apart there's no turning back. Another thing I like to do is buy older palettes second hand. Like maybe if I only liked half the shades and therefore couldnt justify paying full price for the palette new - I'll see if I can find a clean copy on the resale market and then hack it up. Eyeshadow is really easy to sanitize. You can save a lot of money that way too, with the added bonus of not contributing to resource demand and manufacturing waste by buying new (just shipping waste lol).
I've found that a broad, paddle shaped paint knife is really helpful for this! Other knives that are too rigid and don't really have any give or flexibility tend to crack shades when I slip them between the cardboard and pan. Im obsessed with taking apart my palettes 😮💨
i always enjoy your videos so much, but i get so bummed that i never watch them as soon as they upload. i feel so old. lol. this video was so much fun. 💚
I love these videos! I depotted 3 JP palettes recently and I peeled off that plasticky paper so it was just cardboard and then plopped them all in some shallow water. After a few minutes I could just basically lift all the eyeshadows out. It was so nice compared to last time I depotted shadows and broke like half of them!!! 🤦🏽♀️😂
I really wanted to do best but just watching this video like having to pull the cardboard off I literally have Goosebumps from head to toe. I had Goosebumps as soon as you pulled out the spatula and stuck it in between the cardboard. I think that all I shadow palettes should come in a way but you can pop shadows out easily but they would not fall out like that secret button that cell phones have (androids) that you have to have that certain tool you just put the little pin tool in and it pops out that would be perfect. I actually absolutely hated that little pin dot on my cellphone years ago but it would come in very handy for this.
When I depotted a palette I used goo gone to get the glue off and now I am wondering if that was a mistake. lol. ASLO! When you were smashing up that pink I wanted to yell go get the round Fenty pan and crush and reset it in that!
