You can play Barotrauma single player with bots but your right it's at it's best when played with friends especially considering it can be a a dice roll if you dumb ass AI crew doesn't manage to sink the ship like the Engineer who literally HAS ONE JOB and that's to keep the power on and seems to have power failure every time we need to maneuver! Then again some of the humans aren't much better.
And still not half as crazy as Space Station 13, though the detailed layers of interactable objects make SS13 the closest comparison. Oh, and there are submarine maps for it too. Also Colonial Marines.

Barotrauma is a Survival Horror game that takes place on Jupiter’s moon Europa. Europa, just like in real life, has a massive liquid water ocean underneath its surface of ice. But in this game, Europa’s Ocean also has monstrous alien creature lurking in its depths . You pilot a Submarine with a crew and have to survive and complete missions traveling from one underwater station to the next. It’s fun.
Barotrauma is such a great game, I’ve been playing since the beta, and it scratches an itch like nothing else

I'm a year late.
But it's annoying that the bots don't automatically path to their assigned job station. It's like herding cats.
Thats why i try to be a jack of all trades because that way i don't have to worry about the stupid ai screwing me over
