To be fair (serious question), is there a reason this film can't be set around the same time as Logan? I don't recall any specific years stated or shown on a calendar or computer monitor (maybe there was, maybe I missed it). The scene from Logan, along with the general theme of these young immerging mutants (which was a key theme of Logan, as well), I took to mean that this was set somewhere around the same time as Logan. The technology shown seems advanced enough to be several years into the future (as was Logan), nothing to indicate that it's current day, per se. What am I missing?
The people who were going to go see it already saw it. I watched it in a theater with two of my friends in a double showing with New Mutants first & Tenet right after. Tenet didn't have any more of an audience as New Mutants but was a vastly better movie.

They pretty much really messed up illyana's character. In the comics she was the little sister of Colossus kidnapped and raised by demons in limbo, over time she has become part demon ohh and is the sorcerer supreme fr that dimension. She really should have been the main character but she is a white blonde so they made her racist.
Probably would have been at least a new series of movies had the rights not been bought by Disney (and they're probably gonna reboot everything to bring it to MCU). I feel like I heard at one point fox was going to make this a TV show or something (probably mistaken). Either way it sounds like a good new cast of characters to follow (and give actual development), but any plans this might have had died a long time ago. It's too bad really. The movie never had much of a chance (and I don't think anyone at Fox cared at this point).

Not a surprise at all if you read the original New Mutants comic book. One of the storylines is even called “The Demon Bear Saga.” I was glad to se the artist of that storyline get mentioned in the credits (Bill Sienciwicz-I hope I spelled that right)

No it means Ryan (the producer( and George (the sceenwriter) have always been in love. They're bond is so tight it's almost as if they share a single soul, or two parts of the the same whole.
There’s a Swedish tv series called ”Spegelvänd” that had kinda the exact same plot as this movie. But with a whole lot of math. It was actually a pretty good series. All the characters felt like real people, even the villain. You got the feeling that she didn’t mean anyone any harm but her obsession with math and science got her to put people in potentially dangerous situations. I can talk more about why you should watch it but if I did it would take hours to finish reading this so, watch the Swedish series with subtitles and learn a bit about math in the process.
I've seen & forgotten about it also. That's the thing about this movie. It's not bad. Bad things are at least memorable. This was so bland. It's a nothing movie.

I mean that was before a lot of delays and Disney bought the X-men rights from Fox (and I'm not sure what else). I'm honestly surprised we even got this movie in the end. I'm sure they cut a lot of corners, got rid of anything leading to sequels, and/or just all stopped caring (same thing we got with Dark Phoenix).
Ideally the movie would have dropped when it was originally planned to, to get all the publicity and free marketing it could. Going straight to digital (best move in covid, but worse for the movie), releasing so late after the hype around the actor, delaying so many times (after a certain point fans stop caring), coming in after the Disney deal (pretty much everyone stops caring), and following Dark Phoenix (terrible reviews and marketing), is FAR from ideal.

They didn't have the Karma character at all, and in the original comics, it was a Xavier initiative (albeit with a nefarious purpose). But I thought Cannonball, Wolfsbane and Dani were pretty well done. They didn't do much with Roberto having the privileged upbringing that I recall, but his power representation was pretty good. If I recall (from 40+ years ago), Illyana going into Limbo was happening somewhat in parallel with NM forming and they shifted her into it once her powers started revealing. I don't even know at that point if she was considered a mutant or all her powers came from limbo?
Like the whole plot sounds like the setup for a TV show pilot on the CW that just couldn't get approval for a full run so they repurposed it for a movie.
Well it was a LOW budget made for tv movie... but then the producers decided they wanted some people to actually watch it. So they hired a kid from Game of Thrones, and another kid from Stranger Things... which doubled the budget.
I cannot say this enough but this series is pure amazing genius entertainment that never ceases to be stellar. One of the few things that 2020 has not been able to turn into turd dust garbage, like alot of other things that I have love for and enjoy, and you make it look super easy, barely an inconvenience. I hope that you see all of the love that people have given you because you deserve that and so much more with the amount of time and effort that goes into these to make peoples days just that much brighter with, in my opinion, successful results every time which I am super thankful for because this year has been really harsh to me and it is channels like this one that puts a needed smile on my face just seeing a new post, then seeing the content keeps it there, so thank you 🤗😁 p.s. I would love to see a pitch meeting for Birdemic, also maybe some anime like Akira, Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell which could be a double pitch meeting. 😉

There’s a Swedish tv series called ”Spegelvänd” that had kinda the exact same plot as this movie. But with a whole lot of math.
It was actually a pretty good series. All the characters felt like real people, even the villain. You got the feeling that she didn’t mean anyone any harm but her obsession with math and science got her to put people in potentially dangerous situations.
I can talk more about why you should watch it but if I did it would take hours to finish reading this so, watch the Swedish series with subtitles and learn a bit about math in the process.

I mean that was before a lot of delays and Disney bought the X-men rights from Fox (and I'm not sure what else). I'm honestly surprised we even got this movie in the end. I'm sure they cut a lot of corners, got rid of anything leading to sequels, and/or just all stopped caring (same thing we got with Dark Phoenix).

Oh my goodness, you’re right! Ironic that this movie could’ve benefited from one more delay.
Ideally the movie would have dropped when it was originally planned to, to get all the publicity and free marketing it could. Going straight to digital (best move in covid, but worse for the movie), releasing so late after the hype around the actor, delaying so many times (after a certain point fans stop caring), coming in after the Disney deal (pretty much everyone stops caring), and following Dark Phoenix (terrible reviews and marketing), is FAR from ideal.

They didn't have the Karma character at all, and in the original comics, it was a Xavier initiative (albeit with a nefarious purpose). But I thought Cannonball, Wolfsbane and Dani were pretty well done. They didn't do much with Roberto having the privileged upbringing that I recall, but his power representation was pretty good. If I recall (from 40+ years ago), Illyana going into Limbo was happening somewhat in parallel with NM forming and they shifted her into it once her powers started revealing. I don't even know at that point if she was considered a mutant or all her powers came from limbo?

Like the whole plot sounds like the setup for a TV show pilot on the CW that just couldn't get approval for a full run so they repurposed it for a movie.
Studio Executive Guy's "Wh-a-a-a-t?" (4:12) is low-key one of my favorite performances of Ryan's.

Man, this really looks like a mid-budget made for tv movie.
Well it was a LOW budget made for tv movie... but then the producers decided they wanted some people to actually watch it. So they hired a kid from Game of Thrones, and another kid from Stranger Things... which doubled the budget.
I did not know of this movie. So when I first saw this Pitch Meeting I did thought it was a tv-pilot.
I cannot say this enough but this series is pure amazing genius entertainment that never ceases to be stellar. One of the few things that 2020 has not been able to turn into turd dust garbage, like alot of other things that I have love for and enjoy, and you make it look super easy, barely an inconvenience. I hope that you see all of the love that people have given you because you deserve that and so much more with the amount of time and effort that goes into these to make peoples days just that much brighter with, in my opinion, successful results every time which I am super thankful for because this year has been really harsh to me and it is channels like this one that puts a needed smile on my face just seeing a new post, then seeing the content keeps it there, so thank you 🤗😁
p.s. I would love to see a pitch meeting for Birdemic, also maybe some anime like Akira, Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell which could be a double pitch meeting. 😉
