It's jazz. My favorite jazz spot in NYC is up an industrial elevator to a room with velvet sofas and coffee tables and they bring you set-ups for whatever you bring. There was usually a piano player, drummer, and upright bass player. At the time the room was dark and smoky and felt dangerous. I wish I could take the whole couch with me there. I made a personal playlist for a rainy season with RM's entire "mono" mixtape plus this song "Rain" and JK's "Still With You"... when I wanna drown in my own loneliness and be free from it, these songs are the best esp when the rain is pouring outside, it's like it's been washed away, it's very cathartic. 🙂
Mono is amazing! I spent an entire Sunday morning mainlining Mono and RM's other mixtape - magical. Not well enough known I think! Cathartic is a good word.

Hi Captain, wishing both you and Annie better times ahead on your road to recovery. I am trying to answer your question about the type of music you believe Rain is categorized. Back in the day when I was married, my then hubby and I used to go out on Friday night in a routine: happy hour, then dinner, then dance at disco. But there were Friday or sometimes Saturday evenings when we decided to do a mellow switchout. So we'd go to a supper club and stay on for the jazz lounge or piano bar, dependent on which place we opted to go. Pretty much, we truly hang out even more when the band was jazz fusion. We were big Steely Dan, Fatburger , Kenny G groupies and fans of international jazz groups like Swing Out Sister, Sade, Hiroshima, Keiko Matsui and Everything But the Girl. The only current band that kind of gives me a similar vibe is : Emotional Oranges. Maybe you'll give a listen on your own private time when in the mood. Overall, love, love, RAIN in this album. A top fave due to the same feels. 💜👍🎹☔️

You would love the bar i work at. we play this style of music, have two huge chandeliers dimmed right down, marble bar top, leather sofas and sell the finest of whiskeys (and also old fashioneds) I think you would LOVE 'bye bye blackbird' by Miles Davis ft john coltrain. Its my favourite song from this genre

Dear Roscoe... if you feel exhausted, take a time to rest, we will wait all the time you need to do it, ok? It's so normal to feel this way after vacation... and considering all the emotional news you heard since you came back... of course you need to give a time to your soul (and Annie's). I recommend you hearing RM's mixtape Mono, it's so good to close your eyes and relax having Rm's voice in your ears... and Bicycle! When insomnia attacks me, I hear it and after that I can sleep peacefully.

I don’t like rap….I appreciate it but I just don’t care for it. But when Suga raps, I listen. It’s so melodic which no one would ever describe rap as melodic 😃. Suga’s rap voice is somehow soothing. Oh, how I sympathise! I had it at Easter for 2 weeks then 6 weeks later for a month. The “Suga” whisper shows up in many of BTS’ songs, Seesaw, Pied Piper, Outro Tear, Magic Shop, Bulletproof the Eternal to name a few. Sometimes it’s clear and other times a little more difficult to hear. Have you seen V’s Vlog that was released on Saturday? He plays an eclectic selection of music while driving his car to nowhere in particular. It shows the various sounds he enjoys and it’s kinda representative of the music that they make. All different types of genres. He played Bing Crosby and Etta James too. I’m looking forward to his solo work whenever he finally decides to release it 😂 His perfectionism and procrastination is making us wait 😩 Borahae 💜
I loved Tae's Vlog. And I am definitely a fan of his musical tastes. It's actually the second time I've heard him play Etta James, so it's great to see he enjoys the classics. And hearing him play Procol Harum was fun; I love Whiter Shade of Pale. The whole drive was fun (even with the stop at the dentist). It reminds my of the drives my family used to take when I was young. Fun, casual, and relaxed.💜 I hope he finally decides his album is ready soon - he's been working on it for years; so it's going to be amazing. I am really looking forward to it when it finally gets released. I just hope that it is released on CD as well.💜

Roscoe, love your reaction, but you do make me smile! A Good Thing! But ... you felt like you wanted mellow? Dark and Wild? Really? But I get you, I really do - and despite the edge that this sits on, it has that mellow jazz room vibe. Frankly I don't know what you call that kind of music really. I suspect it is usually called Lounge. However, I often find Lounge jazz a bit diddlypoop and, while maybe you like that kind of mouth music, which is OK, sometimes it feels self indulgent to me. Thus I appreciate the suggestion that this should have another name. I love that it is so atmospheric and reflective. For me it vibes with early Jazz/Soul music - which I love. I think that it was often played for small bar rooms and relatively small groups of people, feeling intimate and cozy - sometimes glum, I agree. But at its best, not glum, but companionable in an empathic shared melancholy. Breaks down the loneliness. I find song deeply intimate on a number of different levels, and I love it. For most of us it must be reminiscent of those days of sometimes frustrating quiet in our youth, that feel empty but somehow full of a kind of unknowable unidentified need. There's a tradition in English literature of showing the weather reflecting the turmoil felt by characters, and I think this kind of music does the same. The rain itself, persistent, gloomy, but somehow cleansing, and the feelings it invokes ... for me, it's all very vivid. It occurred to me, as we shared this music ... no WONDER western radio has no idea what to do with BTS! 🤣 Just think - if they even knew about this discography, where on earth would they put them? Roscoe, look after yourself - hope you and Annie feel better soon. I've avoided Covid but years ago I had normal flu and I recall having to sit down on the way DOWNSTAIRS to the bathroom! You're normally a fit man, so this must feel frustrating. Too bad, you just have to give in and rest - Annie too! So ... be bored, listen to BTS, but don't feel obliged to share it with us unless you're sure you have the energy. Much love to you both.

Oh, how I sympathise! I had it at Easter for 2 weeks then 6 weeks later for a month. Yes, it's absolutely a rotten feeling and with both of us in the house no one had the energy to do anything at all. Not even cook once we regained our appetites. It's 3am, couldn't sleep when i stumbled upon the video (didn't get a notification for some reason?) and god this is exactly what i needed .. i had a whole phase of being obsessed with this song and i would listen to it many times everyday for weeks, didn't do that in a while and i missed it a lot.. something about it is just so peaceful and comforting, i get to close my eyes and groove with the piano, the vocals and the poetry.. love it, and I'm sorry i too don't know what to call this type of sound i just know it's one of my favorites in the world ❤️ ..

Yoongi caught hold of me with Agust D, and he hasn't let go since - and I don't want him to. That song Agust D, always feels like "home" - safe and comforting. Which seems strange given the song itself. But, to me, it feels like a warm hug; making me feel safe, comforted, and content. "Home"💜
I completely agree with you. I don't listen to lyrics either. I just love music in general, so if a song speaks to me it doesn't matter what the lyrics are, I can just enjoy it and groove to it. 💜

Hey Roscoe, I hope you and Annie feel back to healthy soon. I’m not sure what the kind of music you describe is called but if no one comes up with its name, lets call it lounge jazz.
The “Suga” whisper shows up in many of BTS’ songs, Seesaw, Pied Piper, Outro Tear, Magic Shop, Bulletproof the Eternal to name a few. Sometimes it’s clear and other times a little more difficult to hear.
Have you seen V’s Vlog that was released on Saturday? He plays an eclectic selection of music while driving his car to nowhere in particular. It shows the various sounds he enjoys and it’s kinda representative of the music that they make. All different types of genres. He played Bing Crosby and Etta James too. I’m looking forward to his solo work whenever he finally decides to release it 😂 His perfectionism and procrastination is making us wait 😩 Borahae 💜
I loved Tae's Vlog. And I am definitely a fan of his musical tastes. It's actually the second time I've heard him play Etta James, so it's great to see he enjoys the classics. And hearing him play Procol Harum was fun; I love Whiter Shade of Pale. The whole drive was fun (even with the stop at the dentist). It reminds my of the drives my family used to take when I was young. Fun, casual, and relaxed.💜
I hope he finally decides his album is ready soon - he's been working on it for years; so it's going to be amazing. I am really looking forward to it when it finally gets released. I just hope that it is released on CD as well.💜

Roscoe, love your reaction, but you do make me smile! A Good Thing! But ... you felt like you wanted mellow? Dark and Wild? Really? But I get you, I really do - and despite the edge that this sits on, it has that mellow jazz room vibe. Frankly I don't know what you call that kind of music really. I suspect it is usually called Lounge. However, I often find Lounge jazz a bit diddlypoop and, while maybe you like that kind of mouth music, which is OK, sometimes it feels self indulgent to me. Thus I appreciate the suggestion that this should have another name.
I love that it is so atmospheric and reflective. For me it vibes with early Jazz/Soul music - which I love. I think that it was often played for small bar rooms and relatively small groups of people, feeling intimate and cozy - sometimes glum, I agree. But at its best, not glum, but companionable in an empathic shared melancholy. Breaks down the loneliness.
I find song deeply intimate on a number of different levels, and I love it. For most of us it must be reminiscent of those days of sometimes frustrating quiet in our youth, that feel empty but somehow full of a kind of unknowable unidentified need. There's a tradition in English literature of showing the weather reflecting the turmoil felt by characters, and I think this kind of music does the same. The rain itself, persistent, gloomy, but somehow cleansing, and the feelings it invokes ... for me, it's all very vivid.
It occurred to me, as we shared this music ... no WONDER western radio has no idea what to do with BTS! 🤣 Just think - if they even knew about this discography, where on earth would they put them?
Roscoe, look after yourself - hope you and Annie feel better soon. I've avoided Covid but years ago I had normal flu and I recall having to sit down on the way DOWNSTAIRS to the bathroom! You're normally a fit man, so this must feel frustrating. Too bad, you just have to give in and rest - Annie too! So ... be bored, listen to BTS, but don't feel obliged to share it with us unless you're sure you have the energy.
