What are your thoughts on Dungeonborne?
before I was looking forward until found out about kernel anti cheat then hard pass. kernel level anti cheat means they have full acess to your computer, full acess to your OS, they can whenever they want and howewer they want to acess your computer, inject codes, etc.... Devs of this game answers to tencent which is china company which answers to chinese goverment... so no i dont think sacrificing your computer for some fun is logical
Love the game, quick games, quick pvp, fun classes need I say more? ( Oh and rez stones)
Loving it so far.
Extraction game.. meh
I don't understand the anxiety to like one game or the other some people seem to exhibit. Imagine living in a world where there were only 1 car type, only 1 horror flick, only 1 style of tshirt...variety and competition is good. I look forward to seeing what the DB devs can do given the same amount of time DaD has already had. I agree with some opinions, DB is currently shallow and limited in some regards...but its off to a great start imo.
I know crazy how people in democratic countries try to keep gaming in some fucked up monopoly. Imagine just 1 topping. Like wtf
Its straight up a copy from the times where everyon thought D&D would not come back...
To me. ist the same game with a few little differences. Even the sounds are the same just pitched a bit.....
I am for diversity but not for the choice which coppy to buy....
BMW ist still a completely different car than a Hyundai....
i love dark and darker, but it's a janky mess. The only people hating on this game are hardcore dad fans who wont even give this game a try. DB does enough different to justify its existence, period. Both games can co exist and no... you are not a bad person for liking one or the other. Although i like both. That is also not a crime.
W take
W mans
Dark and Darker is no jankier than Dungeonborne. I agree entirely though, the games are WORLDS APART and it irritates me when fans of either game suggest they're trying to provide an experience that is even remotely the same.
Dungeonborne feels almost similar to a MOBA in a way with the skills classes have. Like the fighter spin is something that would not fit in the game Dark and Darker wants to be. And the combat is way closer to something like a first person Diablo. Like the hitbox accuracy is far less of a focus and the game is designed, as directly stated by the devs, to not focus so much on mouse accuracy but instead on timing and strategy. It's more "gamey" and less immersive. The visual style and world design are more fantastical and original moreso than "classical" in its approach.
Dark and Darker is trying to be an immersive hardcore fantasy game based on Dungeons and Dragons. The combat system is designed to be as accurate as possible to the point where you literally have to aim your shield at the enemy weapon without it intersecting your head over the shield in order to successfully block. It is designed to be a throwback to classical roleplaying games from the past with slightly more modernised systems.
I don't think there is even a huge audience overlap. The games are *SUPERFICALLY* similar. But as soon as you get past the blurb on their steam pages, they play so incredibly differently that I think most people will like one and dislike the other. I personally cannot get into Dungeonborne but that's just because I have always wanted a game like Dark and Darker.
Both games definitely are targeting a different niche. So yeah, both can co exist for sure.
@dotanon I really couldn't haven't said it better myself, very well articulated. That is pretty much what I meant when I told my friend, "Think dark and darker but more overwatch like." Both have jank for sure, not going to deny that.
It's pretty funny to me that many dnd players slam db for being a "dnd copy" and then say the game is bad because it doesn't have precise blocking and attacking like dnd does. Then go on to flame every other mechanic that is completely different. It's actually comical.
I actually enjoy both games, though. Maybe I'm in the minority.
Honestly, I don't think it does enough to even justify its existence in the slightest. At face value getting past all the reused assets which don't matter in the grand scheme of things. Dungeonborne was made for the express purpose of cashing in on dark and darker when it was in its legal battle. Everything it does is a limp wristed attempt at Dark and Darker yet it fails in many regards, spellcasters have to be one of the most boring classes to play, with a total of 2 spells and 2 staffs even for a play test it's just fucking boring. The combat is arcady and far less in depth, certain skills like the death knight spin are just straight up OP.
I genuinely cannot think of a single thing that dungeonborne does better besides healing, everything else is a worse version or just the same thing from Dark and Darker
Genuinely loving this game.
I actually had more fun in Dungeonborn than dark and darker....
This game doesn't feel so frustrating and time consuming..
I did love it
*More weapon types
*More character classes
*Add a universal roll/dodge and a enemy lock-on function which will differentiate game more from the competition and will make for more intense and dynamic game play.
1 *small* correction in that you CAN bring gear into the arenas. You wont lose it and some of the top arena players bring full sets in and dont even look at those lobby chests.
As far as the game goes, me and my group have been having a blast! DB scratches the DaD itch without all the toxic community.
Mythril order seems like the equivelant to a scav run in eacape from tarkov
Drybear, been watching you for over a decade. You essentially taught me everything I know about Smite and I just want to thank you for the continued polished content for as long as you have been doing it. Cheers buddy.
Is it really "choosing" in Dark and Darker just like in WoW... it always becomes a Meta if you want to even be able to compete because people eventually get tired of losing and start looking at information to see what will help them win.
Feels more like The Matrix in terms of the Illusion of Choice. And, yeah, every so often you get "builds" that can compete and not be too far off from other builds on that class. However, the second 1 minor tweak is made on a weapon, ability, etc. it has a total domino effect that can quickly put a skill far ahead because people figure some odd synergy out.
I say K.I.S.S, Keep It Simple Stupid. That way "borrowed power" systems on top of base systems don't cause that domino to happen.
Would giving every class maybe 1 more skill choice? Yeah, just for a small build variety. But having players have to do things like stack enough Knowledge and bring in Clarity potions/Camp fires so that the Mage can have access to every spell and give up meditation for their arcane shield for the sake of not getting 1 shot by a landmine rogue..... Dark and Darker just feels like an Arms Race until everyone has a Red Button.
I have vastly enjoyed Dungeonborne from a balance standpoint and combat standpoint. I don't feel like I am playing a ranged caster LOSING to a Bard who is Dex stacked and using a bow. The ranged meta/cleric running around.... Dark and Darker constantly feels like waiting to see what Meta is going to hold the game for the next 2 weeks - 6 months with everyone having Shoot Outs until they get advantage to go gear check melee.
Classes in this game feel way more diverse in mechanics and how different each combat feels based on composition... not who can buff/debuff/range meta into melee.
I've been VASTLY enjoying Dungeonborne's feel to Dark and Darker. Love that melee/ranged feels balanced, casters don't feel lame in the sense of having to hold onto spells like crazy (thank you staves) and yeah... swordmasters are broken and they need to do all of the things they said they are gonna do with nerfing them and giving other classes more skill options.
I dont know why people are not saying this more. Just like in wow, you use the meta build or you lose.
THis game surprised me. didn't think i would really like it but i like the pvp even more than DnD and i have close to 1k hours in DnD. You dont get one or 2 shot and can play the fights out better
I mean I’ve been 2 shotting people with Swordmaster psionic blade lol
Yeah exactly me too the pvp is so much fun (have 500 hrs in DnD)
I've been no lifing DaD but the pvp combat feels rubbish whether you win or lose. Hoping I'll like this game more.
Are you a bot? Dungeonborne feels far from finished and killing someone just means you have better gear. In dnd you can at least outplay blues when in gray gear
@@brandonippon It is far from finished and the combat still feels better than dnd. I just tried dungeonborne out last night for the first time and the pvp felt so much more engaging. It's not just permakiting, people actually have to fight or you can disengage using an ability. DnD is currently one big stat check on movement speed.
I prefer Dungeonborne over dark and darker thus far. Can't wait to play some more Dungeonborne.
Did the devs send out a script? 3 different reviewers now start with making sure to cover how items can be swapped and how gold is shared... such a important note for multiple reviewers to point out off the bat
I have played DnD and Dungeonborne. And dungeonborne is a better game IMO. Really enjoy it. The PvP TDM is super fun as well for good practice!
4:15 AWOOGA AWOOGA AWOOGA
Is it early access on the 18th or full release ???
6:48 I could not agree more, seeing it included in this game when DaD removed it (for good reason) was so disappointing!
Oh as Mithril Order you queue into the normal games with everyone non-Mithril?! 😮
I love that, that's so awesome!
A little bit like playing as guard/enemy/monster or whatever else the player normally go up against, but not quite.
So is there a open world type gameplay where you see other players in the game while playing?
I like DB better for the specific classes and more accessible gameplay.
But I can imagine moving over to DaD at some point when I become very experienced in the genre.
How was that devils snow? or maybe a cold dunno..
This games so good
It seems odd that you can go in with great gear and die to a Mithral order who took no risk. And if you win the fight you don’t get anything special.
I think I will stick with Dark and Darker at the moment but maybe in the future I will give Dungeonborne a try^^
I haven't played it yet, but it seems to be incredibly frustrating as a new player or a single player casual in general.
You have the battle royal circle and are constantly forced to move, you face other players with better gear, who also get additional perks because of that gear and on top of that there are those mithril players, who have nothing to loose and are not interested in looting, but only in killing you.
This sounds like the worst to me, honestly.
This game is fun, people look forward to it. I've clocked about 40 hours xD
You literally just stared at the wolf he barely tried to touch you lol 😂. So aggressive.
This game had me look into D&D as well and not gonna lie, while I like the spellcasters in this game from what I've seen of people playing wizard or warlock in Dark & Darker DB just seems to fall short. I've waited forever to play something like Messiah of Might & Magic with multiplayer like this and having a first person melee/magic combat game like that.
Wizard looks immensely fun in D&D with the spellbook and it might just be the reason why I try D&D actually.
Probably helps that in the last 5 hours I've kinda grown used to and warmed up to the whole idea of random PvPvE which I was on the fence about earlier.
Couldnt care less that this is inspired by dark and darker. Its not about who did it first, its about who did it best. This looks 10 times smoother than Dark and Darker.
My only complaint is the goblins, I pray they fix how they look 🤣
is there goint to be wipes every season?
The auction house is dreadful, but the reatvof the game is a lotbof fun.
I can't stand the circle and randomly spawning extracts, if they remove the circle and add in static extracts then I will instantly be more sold to dungeonborn.
The circle maps are optional.. they have static extracts in addition to the random ones. You should try it out, it's free to play for about another week now. It's a fantastic game.
@@discodiffusioner Shown in this video exactly, it is proven that is not the case. In order to access the higher tier dungeons, you need to deal with the circle. If there was a circle map and a normal map with equal opportunities that would be fine and I'd have no issue. However I feel the circle is a detriment to this style of game 100%.
As for the random spawns... I don't want RNG to dictate whether or not I get out. I've played this games, and several times I've been in games where my team won several fights and even killed boss, just to die because no extracts spawned near our location. I quit the game when I died literally 90% done interacting with a portal, that spawned directly behind me with no indication whatsoever.
There have been games where no 3 man portals have spawned, and one of my teammates had to go and die because we couldn't find enough 1 man's to exit. Saying there is a static extract on the map that takes half the mission to get to from a spawn point when time is already so fast and tight doesn't count, and besides they only let one person through anyways, so when you're playing trios they are worthless.
@DragonSageSequi Feel like you and your friends may have suffered from skill issue. Our trio had no problems extraction on casual castle. As long as you're not sitting in the same place and exploring the map, there are plenty of portals. Even with a full lobby on the opening days, there was over 10+ portals left by the end of the game. I would reserve the last 4 minutes of the game to find portals and never had an issue. Oddly enough, maps with the circle were even easier to extract. With the circle, you generally know portals will be spawning in the middle of it.
@@tunarulesatca If you enjoy the circle and leaving your fate up to random spawning portals that's fine. I feel like it hurts the game and my personal experience compared to games that have static escape points. I want to explore the maps and experience the dungeons. Saying I suck just because I'm doing something the game should encourage doesn't do any favors in swaying my opinion.
@@DragonSageSequi I'm not against a group static extract, it would give incentive to PvP around. You can't deny that there were an abundance of portals on both circle and non circle games. I can see your complaints of not having equal opportunity, but I would argue with you facing a lower risk(no circle/easier mobs), you shouldn't have the same rewards. The attractive thing about HR is that more than likely people will be bringing a sizable risk, in exchange for greater rewards. I see no issue with the current HR and casual gamemodes risk/reward. We also can't afford to split match making more than it is for people that want better drops but don't want to deal with a circle/other players/harder mobs.
Lol pretty shameless copying the designs too lol
I really dont understand this game , I played it for almost 2 hours and I felt like so many things are weird, like missing enemy in front of me, losing gear to random guy who waited for me to be low hp, barely any guide, losing gear, mana potions not working, useless torch and finally, losing gear. Uninstalled without hesitation.
The game literally starts you off asking you if you want to do a tutorial. On top of that there is an in game guide that shows you how to do everything. These dungeon crawler type games take a lot of patience and usually require you to build yourself out. I would give it another chance in the future.
Have you seen how many people be dying to pve in DaD lobbies? Youre telling me pvE isnt a threat?? 😂
the PVP in this game is absolutely atrocious lol
What's wrong with your eyes, why you keep slowly blinking like you're video is being played on 0.25x speed!! It's driving me insane lol.. I just can't ..
Lmao just noticed this.
@Bonkelius it's triggering me so hard 😂😂😂
DOA
Brother nice review but how is there only the last 3rd of the video that shows actual gameplay? Like you yammered on and on about menu stuff which sure it's nice but the main bit that people want to know is good or bad is the gameplay. By the final 3rd of the video I nearly don't wanna listen and just go play myself since I already know the rest of the game.
game looks like dogsht dark and darker
When DnD was removed from steam last year due to nexon bs, I wishlisted db instead, hoping it'll plug the hole
But when I got to play DB after DnD, damn, DB felt absolutely horrible.
No build diversity, no gear diversity, everyone looks the same, long cooldowns of abilities, this feels more like a moba than dungeon crawler extraction game.
Hierloom system is alright, but the game feels horrible and plain unplayable in 1v1 if you main support class.
First person smite with some Diablo mixed in there. I agree 100%. Games aren't even remotely similar beyond the first line of their steam page descriptions.
Theres definitely build diversity but they could do with more visually different Armor. Your weapon choices and passives you go for changes a lot about you build
By support, I assume you refer to cryo or priest. Cryo was nerfed this PT because of how oppressive it was last time. Priest has only ever been buffed and is genuinely undervalued. It has access to some really insane tools and all of its abilities can swing a fight in your favor quickly. I noticed many people not trying to extend out fights where a priest gets stronger. The heal combined with blocking/riposte makes is so you generally win trades and can even tank SM E or Fighter Q.
As a player who has played DaD since the first beta play test. I can say hands down dungeonbourn is a superior in every aspect. Cant wait for the full release and to see the direction the game gos!
okay i paly dark and darker i just heard about this played my first game ever and my last game ever what a bag of crap
No idea what u said.
That said, DaD is shit compared to this
I am kind of confused about the description of "more dangerous pvp in dungeonborne". you are saying they are more aggressive while the knights are taking forever to get to you and managed to hit you once when you wanted them too and you could easily step away from the werewolf while facing him without getting hit. looked kinda easy tbh.
not trying to shit on the game here and excited to try it. but maybe you should have chosen some more dangerous mobs/rooms to show? Because i feel in dnd, yes some enemies are slow in the normal maps but often there are lots of them so you still have to react and take descicions quickly, within the pace of the game.
Circle in game is good pushes players to engage boring af when I run 4 games back to back just doing pve
Yeah exactly no rats hiding constantly
@@Bonkelius exactly
Game is better than dark and darker. So much better
I swear these types of games never make it to console 😢
Is it pay to win?
No :D
I just can't get over how extremely limited and how much of a lack of diversity is in this game.
There are quite literally only six weapon types; 1h Sword, 2h Sword, Mace, Crossbow, Staff, Dagger
There is only one shield. That's it. No variance in blocking surface, armor rating, size, weight, etc.
There is only two types of armor; Plate and Cloth. There are no subtypes, there are no bonuses and drawbacks.
Only having a fixed two skills and fixed four perks per class is awful. This means every single build will be the exact same, every playstyle will be the exact same, every loadout will be the exact same.
Compounding that is the fact that the combat is very sluggish, there's no weight to hitting things. If you hit a wall or an enemy with any type of weapon, they all make the same sound and have the same recovery time. There is no balance despite there only being six weapon types. One handed weapons are extremely inferior to the two-handed sword, and daggers are the only thing Rogue can use because nothing else is worth it.
edit: I think you misspoke; you were saying that Dark and Darker has more flexibility and diversity in how you can build your class and character, and then you proceeded to call that flexibility "rigid"?
edit2: Hard disagree about the PvE being threatening. I actually found Dungeonborne's PvE, in the 20 hours I played it, to be EXTREMELY simplistic, stupid, and very easy to fight and kill with almost no practicing. After my second match on Castle, I was able to fight all of the enemies without ever taking damage or being surprised by something new. Most enemies only have one or two attacks, and absolutely none that I found ever chained an attack unless it was a pre-programmed attack (like the werewolf's 3 hit combo).
Speaking about the werewolf, you were completely wrong about it. It does not have three different stances it can be in and change between.
Werewolf starts off on two legs, and has two different attacks.
Once the Werewolf has reached 50% remaining HP, it enters phase two, where it howls and then drops down on all fours. While on all fours, it has three different attacks and will actively try to evade your counterattacks.
That's it, that's all the werewolf does.
As I watched to the end of the video, it became pretty clear to me that you don't seem to have played the game that much. Maybe a few hours, at best. The dress ghosts don't have a one-shot kill ability, they have two attacks and that's it.
how often have you played this game? you didn't even know leather armor existed. Plenty more wrong in the novel you wrote but I'll let you figure the rest out. dont get me wrong, plenty wrong in this video as well but you both can sit here and be wrong together. you're triggered this game exists, period.
@@starryeyes5860 You call out people who prefer DaD over DB giving good reasons, while claiming "you are not a bad person for like one or the other". Good one.
@Schild3nte I'm not a good person because I said there was a lot wrong in your novel? Good one. I prefer dark and darker myself, but I'm also not but hurt because there is another decent game out in the same genre.
A DaD veteran I know once said... DaD has illusion of choice, but to play seriously you just pick a singular meta, all other choice are there if you want to stunt yourself or meme.
So no, DaD has no choice and diversity, only one meta in unbalanced clases.
@@starryeyes5860 I'm not triggered this game exists, and I am aware leather armor exists, but it's the exact same class as cloth. They give identical armor and stat bonuses.
I wanted Dungeonborne to succeed because healthy competition is great for both games, but Dungeonborne is just a shallow ripoff published by Nexon and Tencent to try to make money.
As for "plenty more wrong" that you couldn't point out, is because it's not wrong. You tried to correct me on leather armor but it fundamentally is identical to the cloth. Traveller's Garb has the same stats as the Leather Vest.
your info on dark and darker are dated, lots of misinformation in here
Nope. Just played it. It's true
Is the game worth it? Yes, it's free to play lol
I saved whoever reads this 15 minutes of their time.
it’s basically dark and darker mobile
funnily enough, dark and darker is the one getting a mobile version
currently has sign ups for global beta test
"Almost the same game"
Bro. I have like 2k hours in dark and darker
Dungeonborne is so shit and unpolished compared
Hopefully enough of both takes causes them to establish their own unique audiences
Idk. You saying dungeonborne is polished just feels like you're lying
What's polished and not shit in dark and darker compared to this?
@@zsoltpiros8772 everything
@@zsoltpiros8772I don't wanna hate on dungeon borne, some stuff are actually cool about the game, but it's much more janky than dark and darker. The swing hit boxes, the sound effect, the animations, etc.. That being said, some stuff, like the staffs having energy to cast staff unique spells, the character customisation and the look of the UI and map is a positive imo for dungeonborne.
Better game in every aspect compared to D&D
Dungeonborne is soooo trash
Classes are more balanced but combat is less responsive than DaD.
Each to their own, but I have like 500 hrs in DnD I just like this game is quicker to get kitted, and can focus on the fun part which is pvp and enjoying the really nice maps. Castle map is by far the best map in extraction games. So glorious
@@notsoanonymousmemes9455 it just looks horrific first of all and the overall feel isnt ominous or immersive, DB looks like a cheap version of DaD. Even the inventory is depressing just look at a side by side full inv of both games, plus the overall gameplay is cartoony n janky as hell
@@egan1499 So you just prefer the aesthetic of DaD? DaD gameplay is also janky as hell... you've probably just gotten used to it or haven't played certain classes. I haven't played Dungeonborne so I can't really compare, but I can't imagine the gameplay is worse than DaD. DaD combat is possibly the worst I've ever played. Even minecraft is smoother mechanically and has functional hitboxes. You can literally stab through shields in Dark and Darker it's a joke..
How do you review this game without touching on the PvP?...
