Messi went through all the versions of an attacking player through his career. He went from being a ridiculous goal scorer to being an alien-like playmaker. There are some great players in this generation like Lewandowski or KDB, but prime Messi could play like both of them at the same time. He was so good with the ball that it looked like he invented football and mastered all of its skills. He is the most complete player to ever live, not only because he was one of if not the best at what he did, but also because he could do just about everything.

Mbappe was arguably a better teenage player. He had 39 goals in 2018/2019, won a league title with Monaco (and reach SF) and won a WC. However, last season (4 years later), he still had 39 goals. Messi went from 17 to 38 to 47 to 53 to 73, and he had that while playing more as a playmaker than as a striker/finisher.
