- THIS EPISODE - I review the RED approved OWC Atlas Ultra CFexpress cards as well as their Thunderbolt CFexpress reader, Envoy Pro FX Thunderbolt SSD and Elektron USB SSD.
(I just noticed that I picked up the thunderbolt CFexpress reader when talking about the Elektron SSD. I guess my eyes glazed over the silver hunk of aluminum for the grey. The Elektron is about the same size, just for comparison)

Worth checking out
This is great info on these cards. Didn’t know OWC was even in this space until recently, when searching for fast readers. I picked up a 256GB Atlas Pro as it was listed as 8K RAW compatible. Noticed later on their site it stated 6K RAW. Tested it in the Z8 at 8K60 RAW and it works. With a 4.0 reader, Write speeds started at 100 and would level off between 700-850 while Read was 2600. I don’t do a lot of RAW recording but, it’s nice to have cards that can. Great review by the way.

Hi Scott this was great and appreciate the explanation up front of exactly what you were measuring and why. Quick question - I don’t see the OWC reader listed as RED approved on RED website. Do you have any concern with that? Not saying you should or shouldn’t - would just appreciate your thoughts on that. Thanks!
Hi, Thanks you for watching. There is no need to have the reader certified for RED as it doesn’t participate in the camera ecosystem. It is merely a post tool. There are 0 problems with the reader and I wouldn’t at all worry about it. I own 4 different readers and this is the one I always use now whenever possible, just because of the speed!

@@swcblad That’s ultimately up to you to decide. At some point, its well worth it. It just depends on your workflow and available time.
