Stratus was the best place to go. I would drive down on the weekends from Anaheim to SD to go to Stratus!! I also hit Studio K and Cloud 9 at Knott’s Berry Farm and Videopolis at Disneyland. I ended up with DJ gigs at the Orange County venues. I had a DJ company while I was in HS and a little after from 1981-1988. Then I had to grow up a little. So I flew helicopters for a living. Still do!!! This is a great video. I know a lot of the people on the news cast. Thank you so much for this awesome post!!!
wow really good reporting, and they know the history... I would like to thank people like Sam Barris. I was lucky to have a teen dance club in my town in the 1980s.
That video is classic. Used to hit Distillery East back then. Great memories. Best part was being turned on to so much good music. English Beat, Ministry, Yaz, Depeche Mode.
I remember seeing you around Dawn, but not sure if we ever spoke back in the day. We were there that night but hid from the camera. Did likewise at Stratus when the filmed… now wish we hadn’t.
@kehoahawaii0319 The older I get the more relevant the following statement becomes to me: "little ones, I know it's hard to believe, but at one time I used to be a kid too"... It's funny, at times it seems this was sooo long ago, and at other times it seems like it was just yesterday, leaving me to wonder how I got to be 41.
The most 80's thing about this video, is that the news portrays these kids as wholesome since none of them are drinking...yet all of them are chainsmoking cigs indoors lol.
@@ChromeLuxx was it directly across the street from Chase Bank? Or, maybe a few doors east of that? I thought it was 2 story but maybe that was only the facade. The building there look 1 story high now. I tell my husband about it but he is younger and doesn't remember it.
I'm a bit pussled by the signs thay say "studio 9". The title of the video says "Stratus featured....". Was the name changed later? Or what's going on?
They are actually showing three different clubs: Stratus (East county-ish), Studio 9 (San Diego/North Park) and Distillery East in Escondido (North San Diego county).

When I look at the Big Picture its really not that long ago. But when i try to tally-up the Moments, its hard to fathom.

Clove cigs
Does anyone remember Emerald City in Pacific Beach? I can't find anything about it on the internet. It was during the late 80's.
Wife was a gogo dancer there for awhile, and I was friends with the marketing/events guy many moons ago.
