    I got the x9s without doing much research and man, you are on point. You get back as much energy as you put in, if you mess up, you go flying in the air. You can do long smooth turn and then tighten it all the way to slalom turn. Extremely fun if you have enough strength and technique.
    However, the ski is so narrow under the boot it just doesnt work ubless its frozen groomer. If the shoe is soft, tou just skid without grip, if you put too much angle, your boot will catch snow and that's not a pleasant feeling. Also, the mounting point for the binding is really far back, so doing short sliding turns, or even breaking, ia way harder than on other skiis. And forget about powder skiing - you just sink to the bottom.
    They are great, but you need another set for after lunch moguls.

    Yep, carving weapon is the right term. I’ve got a pair of these skis and they are unbelievable on ice, groomed piste, absolutely flying and great carving, took me a couple of days to figure them out but I think I work them close to their capacity. My last few videos you can see them in action. Thanks for the review

    I have been skiing on this in Innsbruck where I live, for the last 5 years. This is waterdown racing skiing and it is even qualified for ski-masters. It is not a toy, it requires ability, technique, physical strength and a perfectly groomed piste. I recommend it only as a 2ond or 3rd ski. I personally have this and the Soul 7 for off-piste etc. It will make you a better skier, but it can send you to the hospital also if you are skiing a bit too much on the back.

    I ski on a pair of 2020 X9 RS 175 cm. That is the stiffer "Race Stock", version of this ski. The RS is not available as a retail ski. I was only able to find an older 2020 pair. I think they are the perfect "race training ski" for working on your race turn technique skiing while free skiing. You would not really use them in a course because the turn radius is wrong for either SL or GS. But if you are an aggressive technical skier, they are the perfect ski to take free skiing to work on turns and drills. They rip on hard snow.

They are very dynamic and require lots of energy to get the most out of them. The 65 waist is one thing a really like. Very fast edge to edge. They are great fun on hard groomers. They handle speed better than SL and still have a great turn radius. They lov to cruise. They are one of my favorite skis. PS you will want a stiff race boot to ski them. They are not for off piste.

    • @SkiEssentials

      I think given the stability and power of the ski, it's okay to go shorter if you're in the middle. This way you get to take full advantage of the pure carving awesomeness of the ski. The 175 might feel like too much at times.

I cannot call myself an expert skier but I am defienetly above average. This is a pretty burly ski that top-end skiers will be able to get the most of. I don't think this is the best choice for you--within Atomic, the Q9 or 7 might be a better fit and allow for better progression.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  Год назад +1

      The Revoshock is certainly sleeker of a design. From a functionality standpoint, it doesn't hook into the binding plate, so it's a lot less connected. It's more made to absorb vibrations rather than provide physical downward force on the ski.

    How do you think this compares to the rossignol hero elit mt's? Im going to be a ski instructor in Austria where i'll mostly be teaching kids since its my first season. I don't see myself going off-piste, and if i do i'll be getting some cheap/used powder skis or something. I've also found the Rossignol's to be almost half the price of the redsters if that helps anything.

      Hi Niels!
      Instructor skis are tough. Are these kids beginners? If so, I'd get a cheap twin tip that you don't mind getting stomped on and that you can ski backwards on. If you're doing more technical coaching, the MT likely has a better mix of demo ability and versatility. Save a couple bucks, too. Have fun!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад

      Instructor skis are tough, because you need something to demonstrate on, but also to stomp around. Are you going to be coaching kids at all? That really changes things, and I recommend lighter twin tips like Atomic Bent 90 or Black Crows Captis for that, but for more technical adult instruction, you do need something with a shorter turn radius and a relatively narrow waist. The X9 would be great in that realm, but you could also wider with something like the Redster Q9.8. Hope that helps!

      A lot of instructors I see use the Head SuperShape I. Rally's. You can slide around easily at low speed, handle a bit of powder and most importantly put'm up on edge when it's time to show off your carving techniques! These Atomic X9s's would probably be a handful most of them time when teaching beginners.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  Год назад +2

      It doesn't, really. The S9 is such a specialist that it's very difficult for non-slalom skis to compete. That said, it's really difficult to make the S9 do the longer turns, so if you're looking to open it up a bit, it's a big ask of the S9.

    My local ski dealer has these in stock and recommended them in the 167cm variant, as I am a very lightweight but tall person... (60kg / 1.87m) He told me its going to be easier to turn, as its more of a slalom length, but as stable when going faster. What do u think about this?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  Год назад +1

      I would think the 175 is a better choice for your stats and application--definitely better for longer turns and faster arcs. The narrow waist width will make great short turns regardless of length, I'd say the 175 sounds like a safer bet for all turn shapes and styles.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 года назад

      I think it's fair to say it feels more locked in than some. Relatively stiff flex pattern, so somewhat hard to bend it into shorter arcs. You can, but takes some strength for sure. You can let it run a little bit, it doesn't hook up on you immediately, but I also think it prefers sticking to a mid-radius, ~15 m turn.

      I've been finding that on these types of skis, going a bit shorter enhances the performance. These aren't really meant for such long, straight, and fast turns, so you can go to the 175.
