Riding a Spanish regional train from Seville to Cádiz from the majestic Santa Justa station

- I continue my travels through Andalucia, with a day return to Cádiz from Seville. After a couple of trips on high-speed trains, it's now time to try out a regional "Media Distancia" train.
It was also a really good excuse to get to Seville Santa Justa station a bit early so that I could really appreciate its wonderful modernist architecture. The curves of the station approach change to straight lines in the concourse, to then melt back into majestic curves at the platform level. For a station that is now 30 years old, it still feels fresh and vibrant and I love it!
Departure: Seville Santa Justa, Spain
Destination: Cádiz, Spain
Distance: 102 km / 64 miles
Duration: 1hr 41 mins
Cost: Adult standard (Turista) return €26,60 / £22.95
Date of Travel: December 2022
Operator: Renfe
Motive power: Renfe Media Distancia Class 449 electric multiple unit. Built: CAF (2008-2011)

Thank you for another video from Spain 🤗
Thank you for watching 👍
Very interesting as always. Really liked the station.
Thank you! Yes, it is a lovely space to be in.
Enjoyed this video. I rode this train on Sat Mar 2, 2024. Seville station was crowded: I bought the ticket same day 16.65 euro. I wish that I had taken time to enjoy the Seville station like you highlighted. The ride was pretty uneventful, but it got me to Cadiz safely. Thanks!
You are very welcome. Seville really is a lovely space so I'm pleased i did have the time. Best wishes to you and you so much for watching 👍
Hey! A quick note: The building of the Jerez station was built in 1928-1930 (The date isnt well known) The date that you put was the inauguration of the train stop. There was a provisinal building for more that 50 years
@@DamogaPro ah. Thank you so much for that extra information 👍
And thanks too for watching 👍
I have to say well done on the pronunciations! The metal thingy over the tray table is a cup holder (or atleast thats what i use it for)
But my cup never fits. It always seems the metal thingy is too small
I have done this journey and wrongly got off at the Cadiz stadium station. Had to then get a bus into town. Cadiz is an interesting place served by tourist cruises. The old railway station is next door to the modern station which is really quiet for such a big city.
Yes I know what you mean about the old and new stations. I spend a bit longer looking at them in the video about the Cádiz tram-trains.
I'd happily go back to Cádiz. I loved the old town, and the ride around the bay was lovely.
Thanks for watching 👍
Thank you so much for this great information!
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching 👍
@@JohnnyHooverTravels it was a pleasure!!
My home, well across the bay in El Puerto
It was a great ride and looks to be lovely place to live!
Thank you for watching and commenting 👍
Very good! Was at Inverness early this week to take the Highland Chieftain--and with time to spare. I thought how would I make a video here. So many decisions to make . I wouldn't know where to start. Just increases my admiration for what you do.
Thank you for saying that. Raises the mood to get a bit of praise.
How was the Highland Chieftain?
@@JohnnyHooverTravels Excellent . LNER in first class do the business. Its what you said in the video. There has to be a sense of occasion. LNER provides it.
thanks really good stuff
Thanks for watching too! 👍
Those solar panels are actually owned and operated by Amazon
Interesting. Helps the green credentials I suppose.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Renfe (Spain) has spent a fortune on highspeed intercity rail and the regional trains are now going to be changed for more modern versions ( very needed)
Ah interesting. I look forward to riding what replaces them! Thanks so much for watching. 👍
Hey I'm inviting you to India ,you will definitely love our train station and trains as we have advanced as well as old trains which you will love .
My father grew up in what was then Bombay in the 1920s/1930s so I would like to visit one day for sure.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting 👍
0:54 why you putted a Cercanías if this video is about Media Distancia?
@@Turase_IronRoblox it was just a view of a train passing by as i was talking
Thanks so much for watching 👍
Might those be cup holders above the tray tables?
No cup I've ever had would fit in there. Honestly, I'm stumped. I'm just hoping that someone knows. Maybe I should email a seat manufacturer? 🤷
@@JohnnyHooverTravels intriguing, rather like the difference in track gauges within Spain
@@JohnnyHooverTravels It is intended as a cup holder, the standard cup you would get from the train catering or cafeteria would fit, and it looks very simila to that of the alstom AVE trains.
when you got the tray down that thing what you dont know what it is ---is a cup holder easy to work out
Fair enough. But it would only fit a mighty small cup!
Thanks for watching 👍
It’s sad that you come just the few weeks a year that there are bad climate in Andalucía, it’s just not the same, all in here it’s made for sunny weather, so if it’s cloudy it’s feel so sad
Yes it was rainy nearly every day. But it was still beautiful and back in the UK that week they had sub-zero temperatures. So I wasn't too sad 😀
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment 👍
were you able to book same day
I think the answer is "that depends". I booked my journeys about two weeks in advance and I was pleased I did because I was travelling during a period of national holidays and the trains were fairly busy.
I just tried to book tickets on the Renfe app for this journey tonight (Sunday) and both possible trains were showing fully booked.
@@JohnnyHooverTravels thank you it was indeed necessary sold out very rapidly for the upcoming bank holiday next weekend
