    I was taught to start by putting down what you are looking for on the left side of the equation, then the equal sign, then put the given data on the right side starting with the given containing the numerator of the left side. Then place the other given data in order to cancel units exactly as you have done, the the math. This way requires little thinking while getting the correct answer.
    For example using your 1st problem:
    ml= 1000ml/ 1 liter X 1.2 liter/1
    5th problem
    ml= 1ml/10mg x .3mg/1kg x 65kg
    Been doing it like this 40 years.

    • @ShaneIvic
      @ShaneIvic 2 года назад

      Could you explain this a bit more please? I'm lost here "given containing the numerator of the left side."

    • @Jslav-jj2xq
      @Jslav-jj2xq 2 года назад

      @@ShaneIvic so the given is the data you have.
      Example...how much does it cost ($) to drive 100 miles?
      "Given" data:
      Gas costs $4/gallon
      Your car gets 20 miles per gallon
      Setup: looking for dollars on left side so I put $4 in numerator 1st on the right side then just alternate units in numerator and denominator to cancel everything but $.
      It's hard to explain with a phone keyboard, sorry.
      $= $4/gallon x 1 gallon/20 miles x 100 miles
      Solve: ($4 x 100) / 20
      $400/20 = $20
      Hope it helps.

      @@Jslav-jj2xq Thank you, A little easier yes. I ok with most except still struggle with flow rates of like "gtts/minute" e.g. You have an IVPB of ranitidine (Zantac) 50 mg in 50 mL D5W to run over 30 minutes. The tubing has a drip factor of 15. How many drops per minute will you set on the IV infusion controller?

    Doctor's order says: 250 mL of Vancomycin 300 mg to infuse over 80 minutes. What is the hourly rate? Ans: 187.5ml/hr
    Anyone knows how to get this answer?

    • @MagicinNursingTeam
      @MagicinNursingTeam  3 года назад

      You convert 80 minutes to hour. So that is 80/60 = 1.3333 hours. Then you divide 250 mL over 1.3333 hour (250/1.3333). That equates to 187.5 mL/hr

    I love how you don’t explain where you get your reason to plug in the numbers where you do. Like In the last question. Why do you put 1hr over 60mins instead of 60mins over 1hr, or why you choose to place 10gtts over 1ml instead of 1ml over 10gtts. Or why you don’t follow pedmas in these equations by doing your divisions first followed by your multiplications instead you multiply across the top to get 5000 then multiply across the bottom to get 240 and then divide those two numbers to get 20.8gtts but you don’t say that either you just round it up and say you got 21gtts. Like I’m staring at my calculator thinking it’s broken. To me it just seems like your just plugging numbers in on a whim. I know there’s reason but it’d be nice for you to actually explain your rational rather than just spit out the answers.

    • @MagicinNursingTeam
      @MagicinNursingTeam  2 года назад +3

      You put in numbers so that you can cancel units. For example, you put 1 hr over 60 mins so that you can cancel out hour. If you put it the other way around, you will not be able to cancel the hour. For drug calculations, the unjt cancellation method is an excellent method. There are different methods as well but we prefer this over the other methods.
