I agree with most of what you said. I once bought a gym membership, on discount of course, but didn't go once!! Now I walk as much as possible and do exercise videos.
I've lived through a couple of earthquakes. no running water for a couple of days, no power living in a car park ...Those products were a necessary evil but definitely not put down the drain.....
The problem is we have all these influencers on social media that people have forgotten how to be themselves and be unique, I remember when I had my first baby hubby was in the army abroad and we had a used cot, used by goodness how many babies I don’t know, when I had my second I was offered a used cot and snapped it up, painted it and used transfers and sold it for what I paid for it, I even used single bed sheets on it folded many times to make them fit, we are cunningly led to believe that we “need” things and really we are falling into a trap of wanting something because someone else has it.
Omg totally agree. I don’t want anyone to influence my life, I love my life I know no different . One influencer shared the ridiculous amount of money she gets for her job (she still took it though 😂) I just do my own thing x x
In defense of artificial turf, we live in Arizona. It is very hot in summer and to have a green lawn would take an unbelievable amount of water. I don't have turf we have desert landscape but the green turf is a nice variation of the desert look. Totally agree with your other points
Fabric conditioners are a real no no for me. I have bought second hand sheets and duvet covers, and even after several washings and line dryings, they are scented so much it’s kept me awake ! Makes me feel ill ! Agree with all your items we don’t need, and I was smiling when you got to your eleventh …. Thinking about this subject lengthens the list just like that. Another one, whilst I’m thinking about it …. Expensive holidays !!!
Yes, I don't bother with fabric conditioner, either. I used to put vinegar in to soften, but I don't even use that now. I quite like towels that aren't too soft and they are more absorbent without softener.
We're just at the point where my eldest is looking at applying for further education. He's going to look at some universities but I think we've decided his best option is a degree apprenticeship and work while he gets a degree. I feel sad for him as he's really bright and should be able to have a choice of what he wants to do, but it will boil down to money and not wanting to start adult life saddled with debt.
Lovely video as usual. If l had a list l would have exactly the same on mine . I don't like plastic flowers especially in the cemetery. I don't think there are as many graduate jobs out there now and we really need so many more trades . As for anti wrinkle creams , trying to pronounce the ingredients gives me wrinkles 😊
Alcohol! I’ll never understand why people waste so much money on something so damaging 😏 I agree with most of what you said, although my Radley purse lasts years (my current one is 10years old) and I’d be lost without my gym membership, living in a flat with no outside space and in a village where it’s not safe to walk around in the dark solo, my gym membership gives me somewhere to exercise (and earn through teaching classes) in a safe environment, and better for my health than sat on the sofa after being sat at a desk all day and never leaving the flat.
I also think of some brands as quality rather than designer. Like Hotter and Radley, which are built to last, not change with the catwalk or be massive status symbols.
It was when university was turned into a money making business that we all "need" the chance to go to university-so like everything else the pressure is to do with making money for large businesses and government. Designer products are completely smoke and mirrors-if you have a lot of money then just shop somewhere like Burlington Arcade-it's nothing like as expensive as a lot of designer stuff and is always absolutely top quality. I've never understood buying bottled water-in single use plastic, or any other way. Clean drinking water is a basic component of civilization, enjoy it while we still have it. I agree about many kitchen gadgets-but I have an airfryer which I hardly use, I cook with gas so it's not that much cheaper than the oven. I have an eco cooker which I really wouldn't be without. I get my breadmakers off freecycle , and I do use it most weeks.
I don’t understand these protein shakes etc . Chicken has protein in it so I get confused with this world now adays (you can tell I grew up in the 80s) 😂😂😂
Protein shakes are just very expensive wee.... You get enough protein in a balanced diet the extra is excreted.. Only the most keen athletes need extra for muscle bulk...
Loved this video, it’s good to challenge the nonsense. I’m so grateful that I was able to go to university in the 90’s with no fees, a living grant and only very small loans. My parents didn’t support me and had no ambition for me. My degree was my ticket out of a difficult home life and opened doors that wouldn’t have been otherwise. However, times do change and now there would be so many more ways to escape and people to inspire such as here on YT. I like to think I’d have done van life and earned my living on the road if I was starting again, I’m a gypsy at heart I think.
I am proud to be 46x muma to 1 boy wife to 1 amazing guy. I wear minimal makeup, I own an exercise bike and do my keep fit at home and walk everywhere with our son. I use simple face products and Nivea in the winter xx I shop second hand - vinted and charity shops . I occasionally use Amazon for prime . We were gonna try and buy a house this year as we live in a flat which we are grateful for but the rates are way to high as we’re classed as low income. I save us money by working term time and doing lots of free things in the half terms . We love the uk seaside and Bournemouth is our choice . I take snacks and bottle out with us on our walks. Your channel has taught me so much. I do treat us all from time to time, me and hubby going out for dinner and a comedy show on weds evening . (Free tickets ) but we deserve it as we don’t get to do that much. I try and shop books second hand as I am a book worn, we make pizza 🍕 and I try a lot of stuff from scratch. I did t get on with my air fryer so gave it to my brother x
I have 10 years between my kids my 1st was weaned on purées I made my self my 2nd was baby lead weaning recommend by the heath visitor , so just finger food I was terrified to begin with but he was fine x
It was my Birthday last week and I really don’t want presents. I said to my other half I’d rather we put the money towards our holiday next week. However my best friend insisted and I said I’d like vouchers to my beauticians so I can have a lovely facial. So much better than getting bought tat!! 🤩 I 100% agree about university. I know a lot of younger people near me who have gone onto apprenticeships. I wish we had discouraged our son not to go. He didn’t enjoy it and didn’t get a job in the relevant field anyway. However after being told by a year head at his school that he had more chance of going to the moon than going to university, we had a score to settle 🤣. S as if my ex husband enjoyed telling her that he was at uni when he was at the school with one of his younger children 🤣. I agree hate plastic and fake plants. I do have two in my downstairs loo just to improve the look as it’s so dark I can’t put a real plant in there. Yes those plastic garden balls are horrid!
Luxury, quilted loo roll. I can imagine that at some point a loo roll manufacturer needed to increase their profits so asked the marketing department to come up with a way to get more sales. After 2 hours of brainstorming someone came up with the idea of writing the word 'Luxury' on the pack and pressing a pattern into the sheets and calling it quilted. Then everyone bought into it and started buying the stuff! Sorry to lower the tone, but it touches your bum for seconds and then gets flushed, what's the point? Not once in the 70's or 80's did I ever hear anyone longing for quilted loo roll, it's just marketing...Rant over :)
I had 3 sons, after they had got ready to go out air freshener wasn’t needed, you couldn’t breath for all the smells from deodorants and aftershave, however I fully understand the times when you would need it 🤣
I don’t understand £30 lipstick 💄 😂 and designer bags etc. we are a nation of more more more. I grown my own veg in the summer through to autumn I cook and freeze. Maybe you could do a autumn video in September about ways to make soup and freeze walks etc x
You should use your instant pot for doing stock just put all the bones & veg cover with water about half way up the pan etc put on pressure cook for 45 mins & cancel keep warm function just press it to cancel & you can go out for a walk with the dog do your listing for eBay etc it doesn’t fill the kitchen with steam & will just cool down in its own time it’s the same for cooking pork loin it’s so tender if you do it on pressure cook . I use 2 celery sticks 2 carrots 1 onion 1 stock cubes & 300ml of liquid stock & water .My soup cooks so quick just sauté the veg add liquid put on pressure cook for 15 minutes & it’s ready . Potatoes take about 12 mins for mash . Can you tell I use mine a lot . X
I agree with everything point you made! 😂( similar age) I remember years ago a friend told me I was lazy because I fully breastfeed my babies until about nine months old and then they went to normal solids😂😂

Things I don't understand,face wipes,cleaning wipes,paper towels
Oh yes, the wipes that are clogging up our seas and waterways! They should be banned
I've lived through a couple of earthquakes. no running water for a couple of days, no power living in a car park ...Those products were a necessary evil but definitely not put down the drain.....
I have also read the Raynor Wyn books…..amazing. I agree,so much we use is a total waste of money.

Not heard of that, Dawn. Doesn't it smell really strong?
There are plenty of free workout videos of all types on RUclips! And you can workout in your pjs😂

I bet that will hold him in good stead for the future, though!
Thankfully when i trained as a nurse, a degree was not needed. Now its basic for a nurse to have a degree
Yes - and they no longer get full funding!
Great video!
Thanks!

I don’t understand these protein shakes etc .
Chicken has protein in it so I get confused with this world now adays (you can tell I grew up in the 80s) 😂😂😂
You’re right! All these protein products just have pea protein or soya added. Both upset my stomach and you don’t need all that much protein anyway!
Protein shakes are just very expensive wee.... You get enough protein in a balanced diet the extra is excreted.. Only the most keen athletes need extra for muscle bulk...
Agree! And sports drinks with electrolytes for hydration being guzzled by people who haven’t exercised
I loved Amy's newsletters and have all her books that I reread almost every year to keep me on track with a frugal lifestyle.
Me too! A go-to when I need some inspiration.

What an awful teacher! Terrible thing to say
Any food can just be put in a blender and pureed, no need to buy baby food unless traveling maybe.
Yes, I agree. It’s good to have a few jars for emergencies

I really should! Just need to get into the habit as that is so much quicker
My kids loved pureed fish chips and mushy peas!! Looked disgusting but they loved it!
🤣🤣
My egg cooker though. Its great! I do agree with air fryer, plus coffee pot and toaster. All get used a lot. My wasted money was on quesadilla maker.
You love your egg cooker :)
I agree with everything point you made! 😂( similar age)

Ha ha! How lazy to do exactly what Mother Nature intended. Aren't some people odd?
