Expensive month for me ... bestie's 70th birthday so decent gift required and then her party which was most enjoyable , catching up with friends of 50 + years so.. worth it in more ways than one. Saved on food bill , big thanks to 2 bags of food from Liverpool Zero Waste who keep dated food from going to landfill.... They are brilliant and their volunteers do a magnificent job. I'm over budget this month due to the ginormous hike in fuel costs... but we all just have to suck it up...

I struggle with the grocery budget, too. Because my adult grandchild comes over, and on occasion, my son plus we donate to 2 food banks, so I end up spending more. I don't separate the food bank food out as I look for deals. Like BOGO. Or buy 3 get 2 free.
I watch for coupons, sales, and cash back on my credit card.

Hi Jane, I wondered about where bamboo comes from, looked on the internet. Here is what I found: "Bamboo grows native on 5 continents: Africa, Asia, South America, North America and Australia." Hope that helps.

I have a spreadsheet with each month of year at top and all the categories I spend money on. Big annual costs, I divide by 12 and put that away into a sinking fund account, along with birthday, holiday and Christmas monies. This works best for me knowing monies are there. Misc monies also goes into the sinking fund. Using a spreadsheet helps my awareness of what is being spent and helps me keep within the budget.

I have recently discovered that by shopping in Lidl, I was spending more than spending in Lidl and Sainsbury's ( using my nectar discounts). They are next to each other. But by looking ahead at the offers, and meal planning, I can juggle. It's a bit of a faff but it's the only way I can keep to budget. Just!!!!😂😂

If you have an HP printer ( some other brands as well) and bought an off brand or refilled printer cartridge, it may not work because the manufacturer started putting microchips on the ink cartridge so they can track the amount of ink left in the cartridge through their app.
There are some refilled cartridges available online that use the correct cartridges that are cheaper than brand new ones but you have to make sure they have that microchip on them.

It’s virtually impossible to compare the cost of different toilet rolls as you have to take into account how many sheets per roll, how many cm square each sheet is and whether it’s 2-ply or 3-ply. I buy WGAC recycled toilet roll from my local zero waste shop as I like to support them but I agree that the funky outer sheets are a waste. Which consumer magazine recently tested various ‘ethical’ toilet rolls and found that naked sprout (and another brand I can’t remember) contained fibres that did not come from bamboo…Naked Sprout vehemently disagreed with this and claimed that the laboratory that tested the toilet roll had misinterpreted the fibres as they were unbleached. So who knows what to believe and do for the best! 🤷‍♀️

I used to subscribe to WGAC and also found it very expensive and wasteful with each roll unnecessarily wrapped in that funky paper. I never reused that paper for wrapping gifts etc as each one would have ‘Who Gives a Crap’ on it. You can’t wrap a child’s present with that all over it can you?!
Anyway I now subscribe to Serious Tissues which is cheaper and each roll comes ‘naked’ reducing wastage.
