This community has been so great & encouraging. It feels like I've done more preserving in the last 3 weeks than I have in 3 years. I've tried several new things and feel more confident too. Thank you so much for sharing.

Good job! So glad this challenge is encouraging so many to preserve a little more. And I feel the same about the amounts I have preserved. I feel like it’s more than ever! It feels so good to have it accomplished. ❤️

Girl, I see one in your future. I just know it. You will lose your kind with one of these things! All I can say is if you decide to get one just go ahead and get the large. You won’t regret it one bit!

I love doing my bone broth in my freeze drier. Eggs come out so nice. Shredded hash browns also freeze dry nice. I have shredded zucchini in mine right now and tomato sauce freezing for the next batch to go in.

Wow those ‘shrooms look great. I have been throwing my stems from the herbs into the bag of bones for bone broth. Just pull them out with the bones when cooked!

I've been swamped with tomatoes. Lots are going to the freezer. I've made lots of salsa and diced tomatoes. Canning lots of green beans.

Hi Rachel! Thanks for watching. I used the basic cowboy candy recipe and just substituted the jalapeños with mixed peppers and onions. Hope that helps. ❤️

How do you decide what you freeze dry and what you dehydrate? It's amazing how much you have put up.

    • @RowCoFarms

Hi Deborah! Thanks so much for watching and taking time to share your thoughts. I just got my freeze dryer a few months ago so this year I’m using it a lot to see how I like the different types and uses of the fruits, veggies, dairy, eggs, etc. I always think about how I want to use the items later to decide how I want to preserve. I personally know that I don’t like canned green beans so I will either freeze or freeze dry them for best flavor and taste later. I also take into account how much time the process will take me. Most freeze dried items don’t need much preparation so it’s a good choice for most applications. I like the dehydrator for things like a “sun dried tomato” or some types of fruits because the texture is quite different than a freeze dryer. The dehydrator turns things kind of leathery where the freeze dryer makes things more crunchy and styrofoam( ish) in texture. So some things lend themselves better to one or the other or just preference. I am just trying to figure out what ways I like to use things later that make the foods the most enjoyable. I hope that helps a little bit. Thanks again for being here. ❤️

Outstanding work! Truly amazing how much everything adds up. I had a boss that taught me a valuable lesson. I was fresh out of high school and feeling incredibly overwhelmed with my task list for the day. He said "take five minutes, just five minutes and see how much you are able to accomplish." He was right. It made the list seem so much smaller, boosted my confidence and hence my productivity and I have carried that with me for well let's just say several decades. This challenge is very much the same.

I put the okra that gets woody into soup or green beans or when I make bone broth. The whole pod just to season then I fish out

Good morning, Julie! Couple quick questions - I’m a newish owner of a Harvest Right as well; I’m a little unsure of how to use some of my FD food. So, for the carrots, celery, onions for soup - will you rehydrate and sauté those or just throw them in the broth? Also, what marker do you use for labeling your jars? That looks much quicker and easier than using actual labels like I have been. One more thing - that bowl of elderberries was just so pretty!! Interesting that they turned out sticky like they did. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing how you use your FD goodies in the future! We have a lot (purchased ours in March) but haven’t actually used much of it yet. Thanks, Julie! ❤️

There used to be lots of elderberries where I grew up. It wasn't one of our favorite jams so mom would use them exclusively for wine. My mother really liked her wine and made lots of it

I freeze dried my elderberry and it worked out amazing. I did notice that your trays were still cold. I make sure they are not cold, you can add extra time to get them warm and that will help with them not being sticky.

Hi! Thanks so much for watching and taking time to share your thoughts. I am sending you a link for FAQ about freeze dryers. It addresses the requirements for plugs. But the general answer is that they use a 110 volt regular outlet. harvestright.com/faqs/ I have definitely loved having the freeze dryer for preservation this year. It’s changed how I preserve everything! affiliates.harvestright.com/1578.html
