My only possible complaint about custom dice has been availability. It's not a big deal when you can easily find them for sale, a few years later, in various outlets, but I have severe reservations when it comes to smaller publishers for which supplies and shelf life are almost certainly limited.
they should make the custom dice available through a print-on-demand service or at least provide a file with the face designs so you can always get the custom dice made yourself
We have plenty in stock on the Parable Games webstore! We are producing plenty more content for SHIVER and will also be making sure to keep dice in production as we know this can be an issue.
I actually backed the Kickstarter for this and recently received the pfds for the books, I have to say this has gotta be one of the most coolest horror rpgs I’ve ran as a DM. While the mini mechanics can be a bit overwhelming at times, it can give a dm many options to come up with a ton of ideas. The physical copy’s should be shipping in late august for those that backed the Kickstarter and needless to say I’m super excited for that to come in.
How does an enemy hit? I know the players roll against the enemies CR but I can't for the life of me figure out what the enemies need to roll to score a hit.
@@beardofbees1 About to run my first game this weekend and from my understanding the enemy rolls against the PCs core stat, so if it's a Grit attack they roll to beat the players grit etc. We'll see how this pans out this weekend.
Oh man, this is truly the content of perfection. It is amazingly well done and inspirational for me to buy the books and immidiately run a full campaign. Thank you very much, hope you a good day. Oh! And i'm from Vietnam
Thank you for feeding my crippling RPG addiction XD. I actually send your videos to my friends when we are picking up a new system. This may be a good one for them :)
My group grabbed a copy of this at comic con (from the creators themselves), we have a large group that normally plays D&D, but whenever we get one of those days were half of us can't make it, we break this out and do a one shot. We've even bled some mechanics over into our other games.
This looks amazing! If I saw it at Drivethru I'd pass it without a second glance cause the cover doesn't grab me at all. To be frank, as a GM it's just difficult to make your players share your enthusiasm about a new game when you present them a book with a drab cover. But the inside art looks terrific. Definitely trying out the quickstart.
Nice as always! I'm designing a game that has custom dice also. Nice idea of a free site or app for rolling those dice Actually there is some mechanical similarities to my game. Definitely need to check it out
whats the point in the custom dice? if its got 6 sides and theres 1 of each face, then just roll 1d6 - 6's are the face you wanted, 1s are 'stranges'. maybe its different for the special d8 but its doesnt look like it
Custom dice unfortunately have two issues in my opinion. First is finding the physical dice a couple years later. Always a potential issue, specially with truly custom dice. The second is that custom dice slow down game play because they're like second language, you end up taking time to translate what the symbols mean. Not a fan of that at all. Tie that into what looks like a massive mini mechanics system and you've got potential for a very slow ttrpg. :(
Every time you make a video my rpg wish list grows longer
The trove is your friend ;-)

I thought that too, but there are instructions in the book on how you can use regular D6s
I thought this was an excellently structured and presented review of a game I had never heard of. But now want! :)

Thanks for watching and sharing, Andrew! Sorry about the crippling addiction.

Good video, man. Thanks.

I missed this on kickstarter. Hoping I'll be able to pick up a hard copy at a later date.

Great review as always! Would there be a Numenera review in the works by any chance? :)
It’s on the list! Since it’s big and complex, I’ve been putting it off due to time constraints. I definitely want to give it a proper treatment.
This system looks very interesting! Are you planning on doing a review of an edition of Runequest in the future?
If you could lighten the load on the rules, this could be a really nice game.
I play shiver on a Wednesday and my characters weapon is a 3 edition hardcover version of lord of the rings
Excellent!!?

0:28 It’s kinda hard to translate the roll results otherwise.

Typically I’d agree with you. Shiver’s free dice roller circumvents those things tho.
@@DaveThaumavore It does lesson that issue, I'll agree with you on that. :)
This game would've been an instant buy if not for the custom dice. I might buy this one, and hack it up.
