You beat me to it; my thoughts exactly!
Nomad Capitalist is focused on "7 & 8 figure entrepreneurs and investors" which I'm not but what I am is a retiree with no debts or obligations, a decent pension and a nest egg comfortably in the 6 figures.
I share Andrew's philosophy though and not only do I want to get the best bang for my buck, I also believe the legacy brand countries are rapidly descending into a morass which I have no interest in hanging around for.
Even as a retiree, it's important to "go where you're treated best!"

I’ve lived all over the world and you are quite correct about Tbilisi, Istanbul, and Buenos Aires. I’ve recently spent quite a lot of time in Da Nang Vietnam it seems to be an up-and-coming city and I found it to be very reasonably priced. In fact if you do your research I was staying in hotels as cheap as I could rent any apartment. Had a very safe feel. I found Cambodia as I spent February there to be just a little bit too hot for my blood. My absolute recommendation though no matter where you decide to hang your hat do your research. Do not rent an apartment without seeing it. There’s always plenty of places to rent no matter where you go you can find some thing. But there are little nuances that you can’t see in the picture and if the picture is even true. You’re gonna want to see what the neighbourhood looks like and you’re gonna want to smell the smells and listen to the Sounds. I give the example of Ho Chi Minh City to me it was just not a place to enjoy. Happy travels!

Gangneung, Mokpo, or Yeosu South Korea. Each of these places are coastal towns offering different vibes, rent is usually around 400$ and you can travel the country easily by bus or train on the cheap. I did. Also, restaurants and bars are quite cheap....So long as you don't visit the western tourist trap spots. Maybe not much English here, but people are super friendly and you can easily make friends. you just need maybe 20 Korean phrases and you can get by. (Yeosu is also near Busan, Korea's best city in my opinion)

@@GuruToGo2 It depends on your perspective and adaptability. Also where you're from makes a big difference. I came from USA and at first found it difficult but after about 9 months i got used to it and now i actually find it more attractive culturally than back home. Try to understand the people and WHY they do something rather then reacting to whatever it is they are doing/saying and i think it will go smoother and you wont be bothered as much. Also MOST of my issues came from the workplace so if you are not in a Korean company (working from home or online) i think you will have minimal issues.

I was travelling to Africa for work frequently before COVID and I really wouldn't call Addis cheap. Yes the food is good value (if you're happy eating Ethiopian every time as the international options aren't great), but decent accommodation approaching anywhere near developed country standards and anything but the most basic consumer goods are overpriced. Let's not even get started on the state of the power infrastructure and charges for utilities, or the fact the government regularly throttles or turns off the internet without warning. Another problem with Africa in general is how expensive travel can be, as international budget airlines are really underdeveloped. It's often cheaper to travel to a different African country via Europe. In short Africa is generally bad value for money, and just isn't there yet as a nomad destination. That said I know several people in Mozambique and they love it. Accommodation is much better value and consumer goods from South Africa (or tax free from nearby Eswatini) are easier to come by.

As soon as Albania enters into the EU (They filed a few years ago) the low cost of living will go away. Bulgaria is good but a little cold weather. Montenegro is not low cost any more and it is a little slower. Folks say there is little to do there. Romania could be a good deal. As for Mexico...just made changes to immigration, visas and temp. visa requirements. They have tightened up to foreigners constantly staying 180 days and then immediately returning for another 180 days and so on. The amount of days is being cut back as well. All people are advised to have papers with you at all times while in Mexico, passport, temp visa etc... or you could be detained. Yes this is fact, dont kid yourself. Probably because of so many people coming from South America passing thru Mexico (many people end up staying, but have no way to support themselves) for the US boarder. More than likely Mexico is just trying to know who is living there legally. One more thing, when requesting a temp visa the $$ amount that you must be able to prove you have monthly is going up. Some Consulates are requiring $2200 a month or more. Many expats are out..at lest for now.

I'm a New Zealander, currently living with my South African Wife in Cape Town. Fully agree on the call of Port Elizabeth, would be very comfortable to live there on ZAR15k (USD$1K) per month. We plan to retire to that part of the country eventually. For Cape Town, you might need to budget USD$1500, BUT compared to Auckland, NZ it's a bargain and has very similar outdoor lifestyle available (and much better red wines). We live here for the surfing, kite surfing and other water sports, all available right on our doorstep, year round.

Electricity is R1000 or more. Food transport etc is also a couple of thousand rand. If you have children then a good government school like Framesby is R20000 a year. Medical aid is thousands a month. No dont agree! Maybe $2000 but not $1000.

For a Brit the two big things are housing and the NHS. Housing costs in the UK are horrific and it's also expensive to replace the NHS. The replacement for the EU EHIC card allows you a few months with health cover in the EU. You could do six months in Thailand/SE Asia on travel insurance so long as you maintain a UK address and registration with a NHS physician/General Practitioner. But (basically) a single Brit saves (on average) £500 a month on housing costs in large parts of the world, so you need to narrow all those places to those that are orderly with reasonably cheap health cover. That might narrow it to Turkey or Thailand for a lot of Brits.

    • @belle42

Most places have inexpensive healthcare. I wouldn't want to wait in line if I needed surgery in Great Britain. Residents in Portugal in the public system. You can spend $30 on Private health insurance in Columbia or have free healthcare. The same goes for Argentina and you don't even need residency. The list goes on...
