What a lucky guy I am. My first “Hank Snow Tribute” was in 97. It started in 91, but due to family conditions, I couldn’t go, until 1997. But somewhere around 2000, Paul Melanson, of Yarmouth NS, invited Kayton Roberts, & Roger Carrol, (Hank’s steel & bass players), to attend the Tribute, & lucky for us, they said yes!! Got to know both, but Kayton had the stories we’d all love to hear. One story was about “Tammy”. Kayton said that Hank walked into the practice room, and he and Chubby were playing that tune. Hank listened & said,...”We’re going to do this tonight”!! ..WoW, and he had many stories he shared with the audience, but surely,....Not all! I like many others have had a 25 Min. Show, in which I had the extreme pleasure to have both ‘Boys’ backing me & my daughter Anna Marie(when she could make it), for about 5 or 6 years. Memories I will cherish for ever,.....THANK YOU KAYTON, THANK YOU ROGER &,....as my eyes start shedding tears,...THANK YOU PAUL.
I listen to Hank all of my life and met him 4 times. In 1967 he was on the Grand Ole Opry and dedicated I've been everywhere to a little blond from Florida to me. My grandfather in N. Florida heard it and knew it was me! That was the 2nd time we met. The 1st, 3rd, and 4th were in Augusta Ga. I still have the photos from Earnest Tubbs record shop before the Opry show.
In that band are truly fine musicians, Chubby Wise on fiddle and Kayton Roberts, 30 + years with Hank as band leader, and member of Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.
Great to see this I have been a long time admirer of Hanks singing and picking since the early 60's when I was a teen. Hank has been with me all the way. Managed to see him twice in my home town of Liverpool UK when he came here on tour in the 70's Two great shows and faultless performances, The theatre was a sell out both times No fancy sound or miming from Hank and the boys, just great singing and playing. Hank was a really good entertainer and a masterful showman. Sharing this to my facebook page Many thanks subbed and rung the bell!
I have an album of guitar instrumentals with Hank Snow and Chet Atkins. Chet said of Hank's guitar picking. "He may not be the most skilled guitar picker in the world, but everything he picks he does with feeling and taste. It was a joy to make this album with him".
A greatly under appreciated country music legend. Hank was unique but pure country ... not like a lot of the pop/rock stuff that inhabits country music today.
He must have been one of the first string benders, those heavy gauge strings in those early days were hard enough to just fret down especialy at the 12 fret.
The great Chubby Wise on fiddle. I heard an urban legend about Chubby's firing from the band by Hank. Apparently Chubby was a little the worse for drink at one show and during a song Chubby stood too close to Hank during a fiddle solo and the tip of his bow whipped of Hanks infamous toupee.
Are my ears playing tricks, or was this also recorded with lyrics as "Who Ever Told You That Big Girls Don't Cry" by some fairly well known female singer?

He must have been one of the first string benders, those heavy gauge strings in those early days were hard enough to just fret down especialy at the 12 fret.
He introduces it as Tammy Whammy but yeah, of course, it's Tammy, the Academy award nominated original song from the 1957 film Tammy and the Bachelor.
Great!
What talent! - Something that is few and far between these days.
Amen on both points
Check out the album Hank did with Chet Atkins ... fabulous.
...Tammy was a big hit in the 50's for Debbie Reynolds!
The "Singing Ranger" could find his way around that Martin D-28....
Obviously, Hank Snow was a lot more than your average 3-chord front porch picker.
Love hearing lead from an old flat top martin
nice puffy shirt too! the 70s!
This is an instrumental version of the old Debbie Reynolds ´50´s
hit ´Tammy´.
Hank Snow country version of Angus Young with his hammer ons, pull offs, slides and string-stretching.
Tammy's In Love
He was a top class picker. Chubby Wise on fiddle, was no slouch either .

Robin Stockton recorded by Pat Boone. A number one hit.
