Oslo Travel Guide: Downhill sledding at Korketrekkeren

  • Korketrekkeren is a 2 km (1.3 miles) long toboggan track in Oslo. This is a fun winter activity that you can do in Oslo as a tourist. It is enjoyable for children as well as for adults.
    To get to Korketrekkeren you have to take T-bane 1 (Metro) to Frognerseteren, which is the last stop. There, you can rent a sled and helmet, costing between 50 and 150 NOK. Currently the selection is between a wooden sled, a wooden family sled, and a metal adult sled. If you want to go fast, I recommend the metal sled.
    The track starts right by the rental house, and continues 2 km down from there. There are both flat and steep parties, but you won’t have to walk much. The track is prepared every night, but the conditions depend heavily on weather. If it has been snowing recently, the track should be in good condition. If there is a lot of ice, it can be dangerous. In that case, the sled rental will be closed. If unsure, check the website of akeforeningen.no/ which are responsible for the track.
    You also need at least a day pass for public transportation because you are going to have to take the metro from where the track ends, at Midtstuen, back up to Frognerseteren.
    Korketrekkeren literally means “the corkscrew”. At summer time Korketrekkeren is used by daredevils for downhill cycling.

    I lived in Oslo for 6 months and of you are there over winter I highly recommend doing this activity! It’s 30 min from the city by T- bane and you can keep riding the train back once you’ve gone down the hill! It’s so so fun!

    We were there in early February of 2019 and the conditions were about the same. VERY bumpy in some spots. I went down the trail four times, even though the train was down which added a considerable amount of time to each round. We finished the trail at Midtstuen, rode the train to Holmenkollen, then walked up the hill to a completely full bus which drove EVERYONE to Frognersteren. Even with that, it was definitely one of the highlights of the trip.
    Jeg elsker Norge.

    We did this on a trip to Oslo a few years ago with much less snow , but brilliant icy conditions. I'm sure we were doing 25 MPH plus in places especially on the later runs as the Temp dropped. I only fell off a few times and the sprung toboggans are amazing. Definitely recommend it!!

    Hi! What's the best place to safely do some sledding with my 2 year old toddler (he's almost 3). Thanks!

    • @OsloProJonas
      @OsloProJonas  9 месяцев назад +1

      Most people would probably just go to one of the many local slopes with a toddler. But then you need your own sled or something to slide on. You can buy them at any sports shop. Doesn't have to be fancy.
      Here's an overview of slopes in Oslo:
      www.aktivioslo.no/guide/aking/akebakker/
      You can also go to Korketrekkeren as I did in the video to rent a sled. Just go when there are not too many people like weekdays and use your feet to break and you'll be fine.

    That path on video, that starts at 5:55, is short one from metro station to the starting point if i am not wrong. It can be terribly fast if you dont use "brakes" :D

    Which is the best place to countdown during New Year 2019?

    • @OsloProJonas
      @OsloProJonas  6 лет назад

      NYE in Norway is very much celebrated with families or at home parties. Most bars are closed, but there are some that have costly events. Stratos rooftop bar is well known for this. There are public fireworks in the fjord. Akershus castle is a good place to watch from. On the other side of town in Vigelandsparken people usually gather to drink an shoot up fireworks. Especially by the Monolith. I would just get some beer from the shop (closes at 6pm) and gather at any park in the center and crash a party.

    Halte dich nicht am Seil fest, sondern am Schlitten selbst, sodass du stabil sitzt und bei kleinen Sprüngen nicht den Kontakt zwischen Körper und Schlitten verlierst.
    Dann kannst du den Schlitten lenken indem du mit dem rechten oder linken Fuß bremst.
    Rechts bremsen = rechts fahren
    Links bremsen = links fahren.
