  • Hilary takes us #BehindTheAlbum, introducing listeners to Ysaÿe's Sonata No. 3, a piece that many violin students choose first when they're learning Ysaÿe!
Hilary's album, Eugène Ysaÿe: Six Sonatas For Violin Solo, op. 27 on ‪@deutschegrammophon‬, is available to stream everywhere! www.dgt.link/Ha...

"It’s very easy to start doubting yourself as soon as you commit to what you’re doing. So you have to just feel it and go." (2:20) Love that haha

1:06 when Ms. Hahn plays- the F which enters to harmonise with the lower voice was very soft and whispery! I like that interpretation a lot!
I don't know how intentional that was, but I know that many many many world-renowned violinists bring out that F a lot more (so that the drone is fuller and thick).

You should be in the Dictionary under "Creative Leadership". No one else describes the creative variables the way you do. A real pleasure to hear and see.

Hilary is a fine performer and an even better social media influencer. By that I mean she draws people to her concerts who might have no interest in classical music otherwise.

Fun fact: Menuhin briefly studied with Ysaÿe. It wasn't a good match, so he soon found a new teacher... Georges Enescu!

I used to say practice to the point where you don't have to think (muscle memory).
Then when it comes time to play - feel - don't think.
