@@laylachisom8996 because Sweden is a submarinal superpower, and holds the most geographically crucial location for the Baltic Sea. Joining NATO allows the NATO members to go over and through Sweden without the need for consent in case of an attack. This is based on the research I've gathered from NATO's website, and the swedish news. Now that Sweden and Finland is a part of the organisation, NATO has all the countries that connect to the Baltic Sea as members. (excluding Russia, who only has a very small part of it and is not a part of NATO)

@@laylachisom8996 Because of the continued threats sent from Russia to the Nordic region ever since the Cold War, recently for example, both Finland and Sweden got threatened by Russia that basically said "If you join NATO, we are going to invade you". This was back in nov 2022, and right now the eastern part of the hemisphere is the only actively hostile part, not saying all the countries there are hostile obviously, just some of them.

I’m no Putin fans but note that in 2 years Putin did not so far attack any of the western nation currently fighting against Russia and therefore its BRICKS+ ALLIES.
The Minsk accord never was respected by the EU (where I’m from) and 5 time the promises of NOT enlarging NATO/OTAN members to close to Russia’s borders was broken again by the EU.
Enlarging NATO territory is another escalation of what is clearly now a third world war happening on EU soil.
Non of this will matter if USA leaves NATO under Trump - don't celebrate yet

To make it short.
This is in fact a war between the US, its petrodollar/reserve currency with its NATO allies against the emerging BRICS Nations and its allies and more importantly its upcoming currency based on Gold and commodities since the US has bankrupt itself leaving the Gold standard in 1971 but who also created the current chaos (33 Trillions of National debts) with loads of quantitative easings under over a decade of zero percent interest rate.
Russia asked in 2005 ish to join NATO.
The US refused categorically…
Zelensky; 2 years ago after the initial invasion was about to break a deal with Putin but Boris Johnson flew in to convince Zelensky to fight with the promises of being financed by western countries AKA NATO.
So far there is 600,000 Ukrainians who perished in this war and no territory has been regained. The medium age of the average Ukrainian soldier is 43 years old and the average time new untrained civilians last on the field alive is 4 hours.
Russia has already won this war. We need to talk about a peace deal like yesterday.
Having Sweden joining NATO is breaking the promise from the west again to not enlarge its territory with US military bases too close to Russia’s borders and it’s the 6th time that EU/US is ignoring there promises.
Keep in mind that Russia from a US geographical perspective isn’t that far away…
As well like I mentioned the Minsk accord not being respected asking Ukrainians to stop killing the ethnic Russians living along the border in the Donbas regions like 10 years ago..
We need to stop to poke the bear or we will get annihilated by a nuclear attack especially us in Europe.

The US don’t have the financial means anyway to fight a war in Ukraine another one in Gaza (another money based war) another one in the Canal of Suez another one in Haiti…

In 1938-39, the ministers of the Nordic countries had met several times and reached an alliance that, as the Swedes expressed, "the North is an area not worth for a foreign power to hunt in," but when the Soviet Union attacked Finland, Sweden immediately declared itself neutral.
That’s just a part of the story, Sweden had Swedish Battalions in Finland fighting against the Russians. Sweden also took lots of Finnish refugees.
Actually, Sweden didn't declare neutrality in the war between USSR(Russia) and Finland.

So when the USSR existed (which was a far bigger threat than Russia is now), Sweden and Finland were not NATO members. Somehow, the USSR wasn't dangerous enough for them to join. The Cuban Missile Crisis was not even enough to to get them to join. But somehow, a much smaller and weaker Russia is a bigger threat than the USSR at it's worst. So really, where's the big threat? What's going on here?

You can never have too many friends. There is strength in numbers. Something the isolationist in the US don't seem to understand.
Sweden’s Gotland class submarines is the only type (known) to have been able to sneak through the defenses of a US carrier strike group and score “hits”, then sneak away… multiple times. Similarly the Swedish Gripen fighter jets (and pilots) have had no real issues with anything but the F-22s in war games. So reasonable assets to have access to for NATO. Anti tank weapons the US and NATO uses are also partly Swedish.
But more import is the strategic location of the island of Gotland. In an aggression by Russia in the Baltic, control of it will be very important for the outcome of the conflict. And because of that NATO needs Sweden.

@@TheSaulazer2because unlike the united states european countries can’t afford to spend so much of their gdp on defense for example luxembourg literally will never reach the 2% check mark because it is so tiny and already spends most of its money on banking/securing investment. a different reason is that the country has taboo problems to deal with for example germany only now is going to be reaching over the 2% check mark because beforehand it was a taboo for Germany to have a kick ass military. Another reason is that they choose to focus their economies to secure better social conditions rather than prioritize military expenditure like Montenegro or Albania since they are immensely corrupt and atleast in albania’s case want to join the EU first
