Clairen from Rivals of Aether and the brand new character Loxodont are confirmed for Rivals 2. Here is our reaction and a quick first impression / analysis of the characters.
Correction about Loxodont's lava mechanic. Some moves create lava on the ground. While standing in lava, he charges up, seen by his rock-lava armor. This gives him access to empowered strong attacks (smashes) and his down special, which changes depending on how much charge he has. (If he doesn't have any charge, he just trips over, which is also shown in the trailer.)

@@jayisokay6975 until now Ranno is the only confirmed water based fighter. But I'm sure they will always try to let all 4 elements have the same amount of characters, so there's still a chance that Orcane and Etalus are still in.
Heavy weights actually get respect in this game. They have not just power but versatility.

I'm actually really excited for this game. Wasn't sure how it would look in 3D but they made it work
The Rivals team was worried at first too. They only wanted to make some stupid looking 3D models as a joke but those models ended up looking better than expected, and that's when they decided to make Rivals 2.
Its soo exiting to see loxodont in the main roster, I wonderd about how he's moveset would be since the rivals 2 was announced!!!

I want to play Loxodont. He’s a giant elephant dictator that throws rocks at people. That absolutely SCREAMS “Power” and I need that. Which means I’m probably going to be stuck with a low tier again since he’s a big body. Welp.

honestly from the very limited gameplay we can currently see, he's got a lot of potential. but his disadvantage is really pronounced

Thats a really cool idea if true. I cant see any other way they'd do her special pummel
I got to play her and it's close! It applies the stun to whatever throw you do next; still very cool and useful!

The visual effect for Clairen's tipper stun looks way too busy for my liking, hope they tweak that a bit. Otherwise, looks awesome!

im very sad to see that everything that made rivals 1 unique (the art style, no grabs and ledge grabs) being removed for the second iteration. what are your thoughts on this?
Pretty standard and better, with more options.
I was on the fence about this too at first, but the more I watch, the more awesome it looks. The Kragg plays from today's tournament were sick. It still has all of Rivals' mechanics (as far as I'm aware), it just adds more on top of that.
Also, I think you can air grab and grabs in general seem way stronger, so shielding shouldn't be quite as obnoxious as it is in Ultimate.
They didn't remove anything, they just added stuff that were from something else which there is nothing wrong with
rivals2 artstyle is still pretty unique, char design is still very unique, and they add a lot of unique mechanics and interpretations to standard mechanics (new ledge ideas, shield ideas, getup ideas, etc)
Though I realy think the recovery system for 1 was the best thing to hit a platfighter

Unpopular opinion but custom characters ruined rivals 1 for me. I prefer an undiluted base roster and I felt the character in R1 were so creative and well done.
@@Kniightisa I only play Workshop when playing casually with friends. There's always the option to play without them if you prefer that.
