- Upon complaining about performance or telemetry, Windows users are presented with the option to use special "Debloating" tools like Tiny11 or AtlasOS. But do they really do anything note-worthy, or are they more trouble than they're worth?

How do you guys feel about "Debloating" tools? Do they suck? Are they amazing? Or do you think that they present diminishing performance returns, and you would be better off on the penguin?
I think people should be better off with either Linux or Windows 10 21H2 LTSC IoT with telemetry disabled using winaero tweaker

I mean, in terms of performance of course Linux is better, but if I am to keep playing HoMM3 with all the community made mods and AoE2: DE with ease then it's Windows either natively or in a vm, so Windows. I've been on native Ghost Spectre Win 11 Superlite for a while. Nothing broken and nothing suspicious so far.
Though, I heard about the Windows 11 Enterprise G Edition which is legit from Micr0s0ft (just not for the average Joe) and actually has no bloatware at all, not even Defender. I may give it a try.
And no dual booting for me because I'm afraid of either Windows or Linux deleting one another for some reason.
Though, I keep a Linux Mint vm in VMware for programming which is just h3ll in Windows.
Made my own custom version of windows 10. About to switch to Debian on most of my systems but still want a version of windows 10 for virtual machines in case i need it for something which i probably will. I'm new to linux and just learned just how much software i can get with flatpaks and snaps. All of the software i use already runs on linux so that makes it easier. With the windows 10 iso creator, i can just remove things like cortana, one drive and things i know aren't going to break windows but leave in things i actually use like defender and hyper v. It will warn you if something will break windows like removing edge. But i did remove internet explorer since its really useless. Theres a 40 dollar tool that's more powerful but the free one is pretty good.

If you must run windows, but want a de-bloated version, use 10 LTSC, its pretty stable and most importantly, official, not some random ISO that's gonna break with updates.

they say 2019 10 ltsc work better on older hardware compared to 2021.
The problem with Windows bloatware is that it is so integrated into the OS that removing it can break many things. I've personally disabled telementary but that's as far as I'll go. Other than that I use the tool from Chris Titus Tech since that tool is the only one I trust.
Atlas is pretty harmless unless you are in tinfoil hat land. Chris Titus tool is also fine but promoting Atlas on RUclips will take away from Chris' donations.
But even Chris made a more positive video on Atlas recently.
@@faiyez the tool Chris gives is for free, and you'd have more to worry about with customised versions of windows. I wouldn't touch those if you paid me.
@@slapnut892 Well, your worry seems completely misplaced. For starters these are all open source projects, so why would an Atlas user need to worry more than an avid Linux distro hopper? . Seems like people found yet another thing to be tribal about.

@@faiyez there is nothing tin foil hat about it. Reputable RUclipsrs have already spoke out about the dangers of custom Windows versions and their findings. I'm not about to risk using sensitive information on an operating system that might have sketchy things hidden in it.

I just use Shut Up Windows 10, autoruns, and Winaero Tweaker on the Enterprise LTSC build of Windows 10.
It's still not Windows 7, but it's tolerable. Compared to stock Windows 10 it's actually usable.

I installed Atlas because on the default OS my CPU was running very high at idle. After the debloat the problem was gone and everything feels faster and smoother.
Atlas OS is fine.

1:37 The reasoning is somewhat sound as Core Isolation in particular is known to cause fps drops and general slowdown of your entire system. There's a specific setting you need to mitigate that, but it still remains that you will always have some minor performance hit.

listen guys, I thought Linux was bad, MY WHOLE LIFE I thought that, because I saw Linux once on a horrible PC like 15 years ago and I thought that was it, it's been exactly FOUR days now... that I've been using Linux (I chose garuda) and I no longer want to use Windows...EVER AGAIN
I use my PC 90% for games, the rest of the time is sometimes drawing and surfing the internet. not only that, but some of my games ran better on Linux than they did on Windows
I've never used Linux before, I haven't had to use the terminal once (but I imagine I'll eventually have to and that's okay) and ALL my favorite apps are working 100%, in addition to the process of installing the OS and my apps were much faster than all the thousands of times I had to format windows

You are lucky to have your games working. All drivers for my laptop are made for Windows. My printer doesn't know how to work with Linux, even when CUPS and drivers are installed. On Linux I could only print, but on Windows everything worked fine. Also I had an issue with installing proprietary AMD drivers and running World of Tanks from my NTFS partition. Drivers ran into a dependency error and WoT was stuck on black screen. Running old games wasn't an issue. OG PvZ worked awesome. Guess I have to stay on W10 until either those issues will be fixed or my system will turn to Windows XP in terms of security.

Linux is a nice OS, if you know how to tweak it and if you are patient enough to RTFM. My hardware was optimized for Windows. That means that there are no proprietary drivers for it. Then why do I need to struggle? I would rather make demons cry instead.

I have actually used atlasOS. Not for performance, but for the ease of turning everything off. This was for my computer that I have setup to run windows as a home theater gaming machine. It is never used for anything except games so I'm not worried about security services or anything like that.
chances are you can run most if not all of those games on Linux with even less risks

@@ilficherrimolori no. I mainly play valorant and gacha games from hoyo. Valorant doesn't run, there isn't a workaround. Workaround exist for hoyo games but it's fiddling with the anti cheat so u r risking ur account to be banned.
@@axandraalex5869 those are devs (managers rather) who specifically chose to make their crapware not run on Linux.
I call it crapware because the practice of using such kernel level anti-cheats is terrible, doesn't stop cheaters, and it's bad for your security and you should probably be mad/comcerned at them for doing it even if you don't care about linux and just wanna play and enjoy these games, which is understandable.

Been using linux for other things since 2015, officially started main driving it only 6 months ago, never looked back since! Honestly I’m pretty glad I joined at such a time where linux is actually getting the attention it deserves!!

i remove edge using a script I got from github and use the privacy (and cosmetic/functionality) in winaerotweaker. Its been running like this for many years... its solid.... most of this other stuff that I tried is unstable and/or breaks something else in the process of whatever it is you are changing.
i did not do it for performance, ive got a 7950x an 96gb ram soo i wouldn't notice anyway. So I cannot speak to that.
Best I can do is 3 chrome tabs

Just use trusted and safe debloating scripts (like Chris Titus's debloater) and stay away from Atlas OS (it's not bad, the dev just need to resolve the issues they have).
why all linux users don't recommend them, i know windows can revert disabled privacy settings on updates but you can always run a debloater to disable them again.

That's exactly what i use everytime and i cant trust "gaming" iso's enough to even attempt to install them, atleast scripts like Chris Titus's debloater give you the option of what you want disabled and also makes backup incase stuff goes wrong.

The best method I usually use when I install systems for others goes as follows:
- Install Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021
- Install VCLibs, DirectX and any C++ runtimes
- Run some scripts that automate changing privacy-related settings
- Switch the last unneeded services and scheduled tasks to manual or disabled.
- Install latest drivers for any device as needed
- Do any other installs that the user requested
The result is a system that will hold as it is until 2032 (EOL year for LTSC 2021). Updates are only security updates, even if Windows 10 would still get Feature updates and despite the name "LTSC" and being on 21H2, you have zero compatability issues with any software, even if you're a programmer who needs the newest version of everything (You're still getting .NET and other dependency updates like normal). All that 22H2 introduced was pointless and didn't bring any useful functionality that you would miss out on.

@@alquimico8 I mainly used Chris Titus Tech's Winutil script, but nowadays I made my own scripts based around those and changed to my own needs. For privacy settings alone, use O&O Shutup10++. It's genuinely great.
If you cant use Linux, or just prefer windows in general. If you absolutely must, use the Enterprise LTSC versions of Windows. Comes pre-debloated by microsoft :)
And optimize it yourself, dude. It's not that hard. NTLite + NTLite forums guides (not the mainstream youtube videos) are a godsend.

@@Extreme-PCIe-Cable LTSC is missing dependencies out of the box and may affect your gaming performance. Plus, you probably can't get a legit key for LTSC.
You should just debloat and mantain the standard consumer version of Windows.

Also, who cares about "legit" keys? Microsoft doesn't need the money, and they aren't going to go out of their way to arrest a single person. They do it to companies that can easily be fined. Because, money!

Ive been giving Atlas to all my windows costumers for like 6 months now. Not one single problem yet. I was skeptical but its been incredible. I dont do it for performance, just for bloat and privacy. I set updates to security only so that nothing gets borked. Plus it keeps anyone from getting upcoming AI
Debloating Windows has it's benefits and I would still encourage people to do that if they are using that OS for actual work or something that can only run on Windows.
Debloating Windows for "gaming" is just stupid, not only is it not going to give you any meaningful performance increase it won't even help with security or updates that the system should still get. If all the user cares is how many frames they have in-game, than they should really go for something like Nobara as it's optimized for their needs.
However, if the user isn't strictly glued to gaming on their machine and actually plans to use it for something else, debloating is the way to go if and only if you are forced to run Windows. This is where people get confused and this whole gaming soy has really started with people actively repeating how it's "dangerous" to debloat the system.
Debloating is a process of removing features that the user doesn't need, but also balancing what the system needs. When someone debloats the system they don't make it magically better, but can make way more useable (ex. removing preinstalled garbage that comes with Pro version of the OS). Debloating is not the same as tweaking the processes and settings for greater privacy and in some cases, better security. This is something i don't see explained, but rather shoved into "debloating bad, go Linux".
Privacy on Windows is the prime reason why these tools exist, as well as to help users remove ads and other garbage from the OS it self. If you have to use it, why not make it more pleasant.
Now for the autism that is "switch to Mint or Ubuntu", because Windows bad. There is a massive misunderstanding what people have to use on their daily basis.
Many tools and I mean many tools, do not support Linux, will not ever be made to support it and do not have a FOSS alternative. Your goverment program that you need to use to login into your account (can be installed on your phone, and some people are ok with that), needs to run on Windows because the software demands Windows only. Now imagine having to use any goverment software, that requires you to quickly read IDs to do some payment or service. That is not going to be doable on the phone, it requires a computer that needs specific hardware and software to do these tasks.
This is just one of many examples where you really need Windows, the same can be said about repair software that is only developed for Windows.
Now that we finally established why people really need Windows, let's take a look when removing security is sadly the only option. In specific workplaces the budget for any newer computer is next to none, and you are stuck with running Windows because the staff is old and only knows how to use it, as well as the fact that some old software was only made to run on Windows.
And no amount of Wine and Bottles can fix that, a VM is a no go on a machine that has DDR2 2 sticks of 1GB RAM. But needs to run Windows. As well as also underpowered and very old machines that need Windows 10 and are completely useless, unless you uninstall stuff like Windows Defender. Because it destroyes the machine's performance.
Another reason can also be for people who need to use false positive tools to make a living off of. Yes you can flag them as none malicious, but when the tool keeps updating every week or so and it is still flaged as malicious, this gets rather annoying fast. So removal of some security features is simply needed.
So to summarize, don't download debloated ISOs, learn what debloating really is and how it works, what is safe what isn't. Understand other people who need Windows and try to help them, rather than just repeating the same old shit about switching to Linux. And if possible avoid removing any security feature that you don't understand how it works or what is it used for.
And for gamers, just uninstall the whole OS and install something else or upgrade your hardware.

There are debloat programs that let you select tweaks for registry edits that remove things like ads and telemetry.
I daily drive Atlas11. I never had any problems with it and I can say it runs smoother than stock Windows. I mainly used it to get rid of all the bloat on a fresh install. Yes, some features are indeed removed though not very noticeable. Also disabling Defender is optional, and stuff like core isolation or memory integrity can be turned back on in the settings. Upgrade to Atlas or stay on Windows 7. If else use Linux.
There are github scripts online that can do a customized debloat, showing everything it uninstalls. Its not a new os or anything just a simple script
Debloated versions of Windows (Like Atlas, ReviOS, Flibuster (I'm using it even rn, it's on base of ltsc and generally safe)) are time-savers) I'd rather live without defender and check stuff that I downloading from some sketchy sources by myself than mess up with defender that will eat up my ram and cpu usage. I don't recommend, but Flibuster was stable through out the year, some features are disabled (including that you can care), but generally it's ok.
VIdeo containing facts, but it's about performance, when in reality it should be used for better (maybe not the best) experience from windows (not so frequent updates, no defender, nothing and nothing, only you, computer and some needed bloat, but vulnerabilities are not fixed so fast on ltsc if you ever wanted to install it)

The only one versions of Windows that I recommend to use are nothing less than the IoT Enterprise LTSC editions of Windows (so far, W10 IoT Enterprise LTSC is avariable) if you seriously are worried about bloated Windows experience. Even Rufus can bring you a much more stable Windows 10/11 experience without breaking the OS. Unfortunately, Windows 10/11 is not Arch Linux or Debian in order to make it lightweight enough. The modified ISO's are often made by hand or via NTLite, which doesn't have the whole explaination of which components are worth to strip out.
Yes, you should. Performance is not the only factor but also privacy. BUT never install already made iso, instead make one yourself and tweak for your own needs. Use only open source scripts AND edit them for your own needs. Never run scripts you don't understand. If you can, switch to Linux (only if software (and your harwdware) you use are working fine on linux).

I have been using atlas is for over a year now, firstly you don't have to reinstall windows for it and I have found it to be an easier way to remove Microsofts bloatware. I never had a bsod either. In fact it appears to be more stable than stock windows but that could be a coincidence. I can already hear people shooting to install Linux and I gave it a good shot unfortunately, I really couldn't get everything i want on linux. As soon as Linux becomes properly supported I will switch, for now atlas os has been an amazing option.
to debloat win11 u dont need to download any iso just install a fresh win 11 and use revios or atlas os playbook. i been using revi for over 3 years and works perfectly fine

You shouldn't be downloading any random ISO file on the internet claiming to be a debloated version of Windows 10/11. You should instead look for Windows LTSC edition and use a HWID activation script since you're gonna be using Windows LTSC for personal use before nuking the Windows install drive (just in case if you don't want any of the junk from the activation script) and reinstall Windows, and after that's done, run a script that disables all the telemetry and you got yourself the ultimate Windows 10/11 install featuring the good old Win32 calculator program from Windows 7, extended security updates and delayed feature updates.
I personally use Linux but I need to use Windows on a VM to test the programs I'm writing.
In my VM I use AtlasOS with everything disabled (in a VM, disconnected from internet, and in which I never enter any password, I don't care about security).
And the gain in performances is huge !
With Windows 10 stock, the cursor is laging and opening a window takes forever. With AtlasOS, it works well. At least, good enough for my purpose.
I think that's the useful use case of AtlasOS, more than using it as a gaming platform, use SteamOS for that.

Some de-bloating tools are open source so if you understand, you can check the source code. Problem with these is that "tweaks" won't survive forever and Windows itself does reverse them "at random". So make yourself a favor, pick a beginner Linux distro, screw soft that doesn't support penguins and enjoy safe, lightweight os that when idle uses 0% CPU and doesn't spy on you (aside Ubuntu).

Very well explained. I actually tried such stuff before dualbooting linux but it had almost no performance gain and infact, I was getting performance gain but that was because my laptop manufacturer had updated a microcode so I was getting better performance. It was the case on stock windows too. Later, I dualbooted linux and it had way better performance than even the microcode updated windows.
Disabling automatic updates is an important debloat. Most of your video focused on "debloated ISO" issues... what about nice script tools that help you disable CoPilot or Cortana?

Windows suffered several cyber-attacks before that managed to infect machines by just being online and nothing else, that's *why* you don't disable that sort of stuff on Windows.
On Linux it's fine simply because it's a different system, security breaches on Windows won't work on Linux, there's no similar system components between them.
I mainly use AtlasOS on my proxmox gaming vm. For me it made it really usable when regular windows 11 barely let me open stuff sometimes. It has a big difference specially in boot times. And yes, no defender and no security mitigations either, even with cracked games. That machine is specifically there for gaming and nothing more. Being a server it needs to be operational and not rebooting from an update every 10 minutes, and actually load fast so I can get into my games quickly
Atlas is better now, let's you choose what you disable, and leave integrated security

I'm currently using a MicroWin 11 iso I made using the Chris Titus Windows Utility. The OS is finally usable, I'm not interested in switching to Linux because of software compatibility issues.

Idk. I have used tiny 11 just for sake of 20 gb free storage space on laptop with 250gb total space and had no apparent issues. Never heard of this atlas things, but that is kinda fun that windows "distros" are appearing out there. But to be honest it is not that I care that this windows may broke or be compromised, because I never use it and install it once in a while just to do some special tasks and that is all. However, probably, there are some risks if you use such isos in long term.
I use a custom cut-down Windows I optimised myself.
I didn't remove processes, I simply streamlined them so that things that can be done together are.
That said, the only thing that improved in games is the 0.1% low fps by around 1 - 5 fps on average.
The OS can only improve so much, you won't see miracle upgrades by any stretch.
I plan to move to Linux Mint after Windows 10 gets axed, but until then this is what I'll use.
what i see in difference though is the ram.
i use windows x lite from someone who made custom windows isos since the XP days, the difference in ram usage is very noticeable, and i do need ram if im gonna browse the internet while gaming
@@Treeman3 Personally I don't browse the web and game at the same time. If the game is too boring to keep my undivided attention, I'll play something that can.
That said, I *tried* to upgrade to Windows 11.
The first time I used it(when it was new) I had a few compatibility issues, but it was perfectly fine.
This time however, File Explorer crashed so many times, the last time(fourth in one hour) it froze and I had to manually stop and start File Explorer.exe in the task manager before I rolled back to 10 and moved to Linux Mint (a whole new rabbit hole here too)
I miss PaintDotNet since it's Windows exclusive, but my performance is better here by far so it's a small price to pay if I can find a good alternative to it.

doing such things is a good option as it just improves comfort of using the system but you have to do it yourself and know what you're doing, still good option for people who can't to switch to Linux because xyz, out of the box windows experience is just awful

the most trustable unlike atlas os would be phoenix lite os aka renamed windows x lite,they have on their website a mini windows partition tool included with the drivers you need to install. also micro 11 tops tiny 11,it has less processes and is the real deal.

Only time I would use something like this is as a windows VM on Linux host for those stupid games which require you to run windows for the anti-cheat.

Try doing it yourself instead of trusting a random iso. Not to mention that on older systems, some changes can boost performance a lot. Sadly, most people aren't interested in using linux because they have to relearn the entire way of how things are done.
i'm not currently interested in using linux and i have a fully set up arch install, i wonder why that is? i've been sitting on atlasOS for well over a year now and everything's smooth, i'm not running into issues every time i want to install something or having to spend multiple hours researching to make a script to do something a program can do on windows in 3 seconds and then running into 30 dependency issues to try to compile one buggy linux program...

Bro, I've been using Tiny11 for anything and all though it may lack of some features, you can use the alternatives and it performs better than any of Microsoft's Programs. And all though Linux is better, does not mean that is ready for use. Main reason is lack of programs and games. So I stick with Tiny11

Deblaoting windows makes no sense if you think you will gain more fps.the hardware we have nowadays is so advanced that not even the amount of bloat windows contains can slow it down.that being said, i debloated my gaming pc with a tool from ctt.all it does is remove some garbage from windows that you dont want and need, and also reduces the process count from 120 to around 80.
Funny how I agree both with the couple of comments you showed at the start of the video (it's like I've wrote them myself), and with your point of not installing these bullshit ISOs. The claims of +100 fps are straight up insane. You are butchering your OS for nothing. There is no real reason to try any of those. And the same goes for any similar "debloat script" which essentially does similar things. Windows is fine, at most you should uninstall the preloaded apps (which don't even matter unless you're ultra tight on disk space). If your PC is so garbage that it can't run just the OS then it's time to upgrade, Mr. Flintstone.
Install the clean ISO from MS, set off an hour or so to set it up, and that's all you have to do.
It used to be worth engaging with stripping windows down. I don't really see the point now linux has come on as far as it has.

tiny 7 is windows 7 but theres practically nothing, if you want debloated windows with even less features than fucking windows xp pretty much, tiny 7 is for you! (its good for REALLY low end machines of the mid 2000's, outside of that its only really maybe good for servers but you WILL need an antrivirus cause its the security of win 7 minus the security of win 7.)

I'm using AtlasOS on my main system including windows Defender.
In all of my time on my pc i have never actually seen windows defender stop something other than cheat engine and my "very dangerous unknown indie programs / games" from installing.
My PC has never been snappier and I just don't pirate or browse the web without UBlock and so far so good? Like yeah, Win10 can't update anymore but tbh I have to reinstall Windows once or twice a year regardless because Microsoft can't create an OS that doesn't just rot over time somehow.
I also have used Linux - i prefer Mint - but i have too much critical unsupported software, including Virtual Desktop which I use to get work done regularly as well as to play VR games on my headset. Definitely not worth dual booting at the cost of needing to restart my computer all the time and tbh 99% of what i do is watch RUclips, work, and play VR games so.. running Linux Mint to watch RUclips would be peak moron x.x
Or you just create your own Win11 iso with the help ChrisTitus and/or Tech YES City...

That's not changing anything now, is it? Yeah, it's Windows, hurr durr, but maybe there's a reason why people choose not to switch to Linux entirely, like me. Unless if app support is on par with like Mac OS or Windows, *I ain't buying* and this is coming from a longtime Linux user since Ubuntu 8.10 who's a jack-of-all-trades in the multimedia space. I would LOVE to see Linux expand and become bigger, but we'd have to wait for a millennia unless Valve or anyone else does something with Linux. I still use Windows for my day-to-day tasks, and if Linux has the same shit Windows has got going in the app space, I would've switched fully...but I didn't, and probably never will.

i can see the appeal to switch to linux with its many perks and advantages but i personally like it more cuz of unity from each version of windows (all the hotkeys and familiarity when using school computer or using friend's laptop for example) and straightforward UI
Atlas os screwed up the sound so bad that Windows 11 seemed like a godsend. And now I'm using Pop!_OS. (but plan to switch to Alpine Linux).

Will I have to say that I was one that actually did use a deep loaded windows but still once I was able to install Chimera OS on my gaming PC I said bye-bye to Windows and I have never looked back ever since and since I don't depend on Adobe or other programs like that then I'm okay with that
I don't mind using bloated Windows, my main OS is Arch, and I just use Windows for gaming only and since I don't even have much time to game, I barely touch Windows.
Anyways, if your worries about Windows is it being slow you should either give a shot to Linux or buy a new computer and now because of a bunch of AI bullshit be ready to spend a few grands in the following releases
What about the LTSC versions of Windows? I use 10 LTSC. I would like to use Linux but there is a lot of stuff I need for either college or retro games that wouldn't work on Linux probably.

Windows users will do everything they can to not use the better system lmao. If you're genuinely considering AtlasOS you should either use Linux or re-evaluate what you're doing with your PC. You're putting yourself at risk and through a massive hassle to gain nothing when you could install a likely better OS for your needs with much less hassle
If their primary focus is gaming they likely already dismissed linux as an option
@@apersoniguess_ and that is wrong because gaming works just fine on Linux, especially if you use Steam. The only games that don't run on Linux now most likely don't run on AtlasOS either due to the missing components (while for Linux they usually don't run because the company hasn't decided to support Linux YET).

My primary focus is not getting my data wiped because I switched to a different OS. I would maybe try using a VM, but even allocating 16GB to it, my Ubuntu VM lagged on RUclips OF ALL THINGS.
@@goofyahdemoman1134 VMs lag on things that require GPU or a lot of CPU and RAM resources like YT that's no surprise.
As for the data: make backups on a separate disk and/or a cloud storage (which you should do regardless of what you do with your PC, including doing nothing with it) and make a separate home partition when installing Linux so that in the future, if you ever need/want to install a different Linux distro, your data stays there and you only need to nuke the root partition and reinstall stuff.

I just enjoy some popcorn while watching people desperately cling to Windows while complaining about bloat, ads, almost and increasingly forced online account, performance, wild hardware requirements, dystopian levels of telemetry including keylogger and ai that literally analyses EVERYTHING you ever did with your computer, stuff that gets installed on your PC without your consent, hackers, malware, badly tested updates that break things, a UI that tries to trick you into using MS crap like Edge and Onedrive, so they can bombard you with ads and scan all your data.
It's so bad that some even install shady, stripped versions by random individuals that have a good chance of breaking with an update or to be infected with malware.
Let them have their beloved Windows and see where it gets them.
