FRANCISTIC - The fantastic feeling or effect felt by the Filipinos when Pope Francis visited the Philippines in January of 2015. It is characterized by the feeling of being blessed, renewed, energized and inspired through the Pope’s simplicity and eagerness to reach out… Use “francistic” in a sentence: It was francistic when the Pope celebrated mass in Tacloban City, Philippines. I felt francistic when the Pope stopped and kissed the sick child.
Philippines was under Spain for 400 years. during this time, trade between Mexico and Philippines flourished. During this time, Filipinos spoke spanish and grew up as roman catholics. Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan brought Religion in march 15, 1521 to the Philippines and the first mass was performed. Spain sold Philippines to U.S. in Paris (April 11, 1899). Spanish was replaced by U.S. English. during my college days here in the philippines. it was compulsory to study 2 years (4 semesters) of spanish as Spanish was part of Philippines Culture. Most of the new generation of filipinoes do not know the spanish as language in most of the part of the philippines because spanish has been removed from the college school subjects.
jamm last It means that filipinos are no longer interested in spanish. Only few politicians like Senators Edgardo Angara, Blas F. Ople, Claro Recto Mayo, Enrique Magalona are for a real reintroduction of spanish in the Philippines through the schools. On the other hand former presidents like Corazón "Cory" Aquino, tried to eliminate it. Fidel Ramos Valdez or Joseph Estrada (who is fluent in spanish and speaks no good english) did nothing to avoid the killing of spanish in the Philippines. The former president Gloria Macapagal had good words for spanish but she did not any decisive effort to reinstate spanish. So only with speeches and good will spanish will not be back to The Philippines and only a cultural ellite will speak it. And Philippines will have lost its connection and brotherhood with hispanic america and Spain. In fact they have lost it.
