Lena Hall is a Tony Award winner and Grammy nominee, recently portraying the dual starring roles of Hedwig and Yitzhak in Hedwig and the Angry Inch in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Following her Tony-winning Broadway run, she toured North America with Josh Groban on his Stages tour. She originated the role of Nicola in the Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots, and can be seen on HBO’s Girls, Amazon Prime’s Good Girls Revolt, and heard voicing the fan-favorite role of “Countess Coloratura” on My Little Pony. In 2018, Lena will be appearing opposite Jennifer Connelly in TNT’s science fiction epic Snowpiercer.

I just discovered this and I must say, I am absolutely blown away. This version is so good, completely stripped down to bare bones, bare essentials, and an amazing voice to back it up. The instruments compliment but don't detract, there's a feeling of holding back early but as the bridge comes in it goes into full power. As an Elton superfan, this is such a fantastic job. Very well done. Chills.
This is one talented lady that uses her voice like a precise instrument. She colors the notes in such beautiful contrast. Love that they left the distinctive bass guitar line in the instrumentation to accent the low notes on the piano. Elton John attributed the inspiration for those deep bass notes to Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys.

Great vocals, but to leave the drums out of this song absolutely kills it. It's one of the best grooves in the history of popular music.
Elton's best version of this is live in '76 and it was just him and the piano, better than the record imo.

I saw somewhere years ago, the lyric on the 2nd verse, "stung by a hornet social scene, just a pawn outplayed by a dominating queen..." Not sure if that's correct, but it sounds like what EJ says....

She performs this song perfectly in a technical sense, but I feel she loses a little bit of the dirt when she enunciates too much in her pronunciations.
