- Boston Sax Shop has kindly sent me 2 of their current tenor mouthpieces. In this video, I compare them with an actual vintage Otto Link Reso Chamber. I was very tempted to call this video "IS A $2,000 MOUTHPIECE EVEN WORTH IT!!?!?" or, "$450 Mouthpiece VS $2,000+ Mouthpiece!!!?!?!??!" That would have made for some hella clickbait. But I must have some sense of morality left.
Soon, the E-Series will be coming out, as well as BSS alto sax mouthpieces. Jack Finucane is the man! A true wizard of saxophone and fashion specs.

Here is my predicament.
Such a casual title such as the one I decided to go with will surely have knocked my potential view count down tremendously, compared to the click bait titles.
Does it matter?
Would the big views help not only my channel, but also get BSS get more sales?
Not that they really need it as they are always sold out lol
Or would the big views from an outrageous title cause negative attention and taint the Boston Sax name?
That was my fear all along.
Does being authentic help maintain and build credibility? Or am I over thinking it?
A click bait title would surely bring more people who don't even know about these mouthpieces to this video.
A title like this assumes that you already know what an S-Series mouthpiece and R-Series mouthpiece are. That is a much lower percentage than the average RUclips strolling around their recommended feed.
Do you like this kind of more serious/formal content?
Or do you just want the memes and laughs?

You sound great on all of them! I can definitely hear the differences of the mouthpieces when you play on them, but that can very well be because each of them makes you want to play a different way!

On that thought, wood reeds and different mouthpieces distract me.
It's more fun just to practice and play.
If I were a carpenter (I did build my own house), I found a pro hammer that felt comfortable in my hand that I could swing for hours. I didn't try to find another hammer when I got fatigued or didn't drive the nail in two hits.
Same with my sax. I found mouthpieces and reeds (Carbon Onyx) that worked for each sax.
Now I just keep those sounds coming.
It may not be ideal to everyone's ears, but like my one teacher said "Close enough for jazz!"
you should review the gs mouthpieces, they are EXACT(!!!) copies of original otto links, but they only cost 200$ cause they are 3D printed, but not with plastic, with dental resin ;-; (i know... wtf...) but still they are BEASTS
I think keeping these kinds of titles are better because newer viewers may see you as a more genuine person. Usually when I see a lot of clickbait-y titles I always think that the person reviewing the mouthpiece/instrument is being paid to say these things or whatever the person is saying isn’t actually genuine. I also think that these more serious videos are better but that’s entirely personal preference, I think that a combination of serious and meme videos are just fine.

I think the Boston sax shop mouthpieces are good but the Otto link had a fatness to the sound that I don't think the others had

You can also get a hard rubber Otto Link reissue Slant Signature 8 , .110" TONE EDGE. mine is from 2008 for less money. JJ Babbitt wrote the book on these mouthpieces.

Have SYOS make you a custom mouthpiece. It´s a sure bet. If you are not satisfied, you get your money
back. It took 4 tries for me and number 4 was perfect FOR ME. Sent the other 3 back and everything is Ivydivie as Pres would have said. All you sceptics out there- try it. You can´t lose. Then go pay 450
bucks for something that is another person´s idea of an old mouthpiece. I am not slamming BSS products. I have BSS reeds and a ligature that are fine. But a custom tailored suit will fit better than one
off the rack. SYOS is a unique opportunity!

So, as someone who started as a brass musician many moons ago (and was a music ed major for a time), the fact that saxophone mouthpieces can be so expensive blows my effing mind, and always has. Lol.
Said brother had did saved me 6 bucks on reeds for which I was already forthwith going to order! Right on!!
Listening blindly the link takes it easily for my ears. The others sounded thinner when going into the upper range to me.

You should take a look at the GetASax.com GS Slant or GS Reso. Both of these are 3D printed copies of vintage Otto Link Reso Chamber or the Slant Sig. I get a really nice tenor sound that I don't really get on other mouthpieces I own. You can also get these for really good prices ($199 / ea.)

The Otto link is by far the best sounding one, can’t beat the vintage…
Everybody says that but for every vintage Link that sounded good there were 20 that sound ok to bad. There is no doubt that with modern production with would be extremely easy to take a good vintage mouthpiece and reproduce it. What’s even funnier is the fact that the tip openings guys were playing back then were small. Today everybody is playing 7 8 and 9 even larger tip openings with many being refaced vintage pieces. Kind of throws that vintage logic out the window.

Fellow easter egg hunter, I personally prefer the memes. I think a more serious tone would be directed to a very small portion of your viewers who know saxophone and jazz. While a more funny/memey tone is directed to anybody.
