    Hi Sean, Nice to see you back after so long. Hopefully you have been well and are still cycling strongly. I have been keto now for over nine months in part due to discovering your videos and Tim Noakes and am riding further and faster than ever. The armchair "experts" who think they know exactly what the World Tour pros are doing can keep shovelling sugar as far as I am concerned.

    Thanks for this vid Sean. I'm not too much fussed by what the elite riders do but love the simplicity and consistency of locarb. 64 yr old arthritic female and this method keeps me mobile and riding avidly. The health gains have made this possible. I'm not fast but it's keeping me from joint replacements.

    You will only need more carbohydrates if you are getting fitter and putting out more power, using more energy.
    There’s no one in the world tour doing this keto bullsh*t. If it’s so great why is this the case?
    Even if a pro eats 120g of carbs per hour he will still be at a massive calorie deficit for longer.
    We are not talking about times on the climbs, we are talking about wkg that has improved.
    They are 100% dependent on the carbs which allows them to put out more power.
    You are admitting that carbs are the best for going fast here 😂
    The keto guys always brag about how long they rode without eating.
    What they don’t realize is they are riding slow. Not necessarily average speed, but you don’t find them pushing into zone 4 on long rides. You also don’t see the massively increased recovery time.
    Because like it or not glycogen needs to be restored and the best way to achieve this is carbohydrates.

      100% new research has shown the higher you can keep your body’s glycogen stores the harder it allows you to push in training and the faster you can recover, I find it funny how he makes a big deal about having to set alarms for taking in fuel. Does he say the same about taking in water ? It’s just silly to me. I’d rather smash out watts and feel on my A game vs feeling some strange sense of accomplishment for riding all day without eating .. like soo what

    100%... Would love to put Indurain at his peak in the ITT on a modern TT bike and see how cycling tech would change the fastest speeds he was able to create years ago.

    You don't understand the metabolism behind carbohydrate consumption. If you did you wouldn't have made this video. To date zero individuals have achieved medals on keto diets despite ample studies into it.
    Nobody is saying the average weekend warrior should be consuming 120 grams of carb on their weekend spin. But for a pro putting out 6 watts per kg 150 grams of carbs is not even close to replacing the used carbohydrate. You're completely missing the context and bigger picture here.
    Do you really think pro athletes would want to consume 100+ grams of carbs per hour if they didn't have to? I race and let me tell you it ain't easy at all.
    Comparing average Joe's to riders of the protour is ridiculous.
    You're also comparing apples and oranges. 90 and 00's was doping fueled racing. So the fact that people now put out the same watts/kg without doping (hopefully) is actually a massive step forward

      Best comment here. This video is just pure nonsense. What people need to understand is that a pro doing 300 watts in zone 2 is burning about double the calories of a casual doing 150 watts in zone 2.

  • @cyclingseth4580
    @cyclingseth4580 2 месяца назад

    I completely disagree with your point here. First of all they aren’t just simply riding faster then ever but the watts per kilo are at record highs, that is completely independent of tech. Iv heard from several sources that one of the main contributors is the athletes ability to consume much higher carbohydrate levels in training and racing allowing the body to push harder for longer and recover quicker. There is some speculation on new training methods like heat training which has similar effect as altitude training but the main thing is the fueling. Tadej is 7% better than last year .. 7% in one year is staggering for a guy who’s already at the top it could be new type of dope or a combination of new training and nutrition methods.

    Interesting now. The high sugar,high carb. Elite riders are also taking Ketone drinks..to promote ketones(which the coach will say gives great benefits). So simply cut out the carbs and get into Ketosis…..

      The reason why it works for them is that they most likely have compromised their own ability to be efficient in using their fat burning ability.

      @@seansako seems so….I interviewed Chris Boardman before his first Tour de France. He used to go out on 150 mile training rides and take just a couple of fig rolls..bonk and just keep riding! Basically before any idea of ketones or fat burning was a thing. Training his endurance. When I was road racing,back many years,would use glucose tablets and a few sandwiches on a 100 mile training ride!
      Certainly has gone crazy with sugar being the main fuel. Nothing to do with Global Corporations wanting profit above all else….certainly not peoples health in mind here(as is the case with every other aspect of ‘health’ and ‘wellbeing’) in todays world.

    What are your credentials to spread this misinformation? There is no problem in riding even long rides without eating if you are into that and can sustain it and nobody is suggesting average joe should consume 100g/h but denying that higher availability of carbs makes pros faster is stupid. Is it healthy? Probably not, but the Pros dont care about that much, elite level sport is not healthy.

    • @cyclingseth4580
      @cyclingseth4580 2 месяца назад +1

      I don’t see why it would be any less healthy then eating fewer or no carbs and is probably much more healthy the reason is even if you consume 150 grams per hour your body is still going to be at a deficit unless you are riding slow. That sugar is not just stewing in your system your body is gobbling it up and the reason riders are taking in more is because it gives their body permission to push a little harder for longer
