    I think Lando should have kept the lead because of the possibility of a run to win the drivers championship. I also see the side him giving the position back so Oscar is more willing to help Lando the reat of the season. I lean more towards Lando, taking the win due to capitalizing on all points possible.

      I think this is exactly the dilemma isn’t it? They were struggling to decide who to prioritise and simply pitting the lead car first like any other team would have solves the dilemma and leaves it as an on track battle (even if they ask Norris to hold position instead of attacking in the last stint). There was no NEED to pit them in the order they did and they could have easily gone with Piastri first and lando the lap after

    I think this blowup from Max was inevitable tbh. The upgrades haven’t done anything, his teammate has not been helpful really at all, he’s getting poor strategy, and apparently things are a mess behind the scenes.
    I think RBR are expecting Max to just carry both of these championships because he’s Max Verstappen but that’s just not realistic. Hence a blowup that’s been building for weeks if not months.

    Spa is Oscar's favorite track. It was one of the only time last year Oscar had the edge on Lando over the entire weeken. Quali and Sprint Shootout Piastri out qualified Norris. Oscar had a P2 behind Max in the Sprint and a tangle with Sainz at the first corner which ended the race for him

    What do we think about the start? Should Lando and Oscar have worked together to keep Max behind? It looked like Lando was too focused on staying in front of Oscar which gave Max a big gap to get past into Turn 1. (Yep, I realise Max had to give back the place, but still...)

  • @hotdiggityd

    Here's something I haven't heard said - comparing Norris to the likes of Vettel, Schumacher and Alonso is a false equivalence, because they were clear number one drivers within the team at the time. We may see Norris as a defacto number one, but McLaren clearly do not, at least not outwardly. So those drivers knew they could get away with pushing the boundaries. Also, in Norris case, Piastri is quick enough to cause him problems in the future if he does need his help. In the case of those other drivers, their number two couldn't really hold a candle to them.
    Ergo, the idea that Norris needs to stamp his authority like they did is moot. Mostly because it will almost certainly come back to haunt him.

    People claiming it was to cover off Hamilton, fell hard McLarens gaslighting. Also I’m tired of seeing people say Oscar sacrificed his pit strategy to secure landos second place, stop inventing, that never happened. It was the team that made the call. Neither driver did anything wrong. It was the team that messed up and the emotional manipulation of lando to fix their mistake is unexceptionable.
    I honestly don’t believe the team would have let them fight in the last stint.

      The team promised Oscar he would get the place back before any undercut could happen. It was the team's fault. If Lando didnt give the place back Oscar would never trust the team or Lando again and why would he be inclined to comply to orders when its Oscars turn next time. The whole team dynamic devolves after that.

    Max moves a bit at the turn-in in Austria to squeeze the space for Lando, it becomes moving under braking and the worst thing any F1 driver has ever done on track. Hamilton does the same to Max in Hungary, its great racing and he was playing Max like a fiddle. 🤡

      @backofthegridF1  3 месяца назад

      Pretty sure if you listen to what was said we said that Max was within the rules for “moving under breaking” and the only problem was that he didn’t leave enough space on the outside and that the problem was actually the fact that the stewards don’t punish things until contact is made so pushing people wide and making last minute moves is actually left to be acceptable until someone makes contact. We even talked about other moves at the same corner that went unpunished to defend Max, but if you want to think we said it was “the worst thing any driver has ever done” then feel free.
      If you also think that Max arriving down the inside of turn one fully locked up and heading straight on is an acceptable way to take a corner regardless of if Hamilton chose to avoid the incident or not, I think you might need to reassess 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @@backofthegridF1 so Max was within the rules for "moving under breaking" but stewards were still supposed to punish something before the contact was made. Make that make sense.
      And it was okay for Lando to steam down the inside of Max fully locked up and nearly take them both out and hardly anyone talked about it because Max avoided the contact.

    • @backofthegridF1
      @backofthegridF1  3 месяца назад

      @@xyfufxtxxyf3690 Here you go making your own narrative again. Yes, he didn't break the "move under braking" rules when making contact with Lando, but a president had been set at that corner for years that pushing someone over the kerb was acceptable when it shouldnt be, so the stewards should have made a point of those cases before but they haven't because there wasn't contact in the previous incidents. It's like you actively don't listen to the point being made and just hone in on the one tiny bit about Max and make the rest up for yourself.
      And you will also find that I also said that Lando didn't leave enough room for Max when making that move if you go back and ACTUALLY LISTEN TO IT. But that doesn't fit your agenda does it?
      Like I said in the other comment. It's best you move on and find a different podcast thats a little more pro-max and anti-everyone else 👋🏻

    So no mention of how badly Red Bull badly messed up the strategy by going for overcut twice on a track where undercut was the only workable strategy and where it was impossible to overtake cars ahead. No awareness of how Max still didn't say anything until GP made a sarcastic comment about Max's introduction of new tyres after 2nd pitstop. So apparently Max was angry at his team for no reason, he is mentally checked out, he is imploding and not getting the best of his car only because of red mist. Austria was red mist too because of him taking the usual racing line at that corner and Norrif not knowing you could use curbs on an F1 track. I know you clowns hate Max but do you watch races with your eyes and ears closed or just switch your brains off when talking about Max? Which one is it?

      Where did we say Austria was specifically because of red mist?
      Also, max was complaining on the radio from turn 1 lap 1 when he was “pushed off the circuit” so don’t pretend it was just because of bad strategy or a comment from GP in the second half of the race.

      Is Piastri getting Landos radios like the viewer or is he just managing pace wondering when the switch was happening wondering why Lando is pushing when Oscar was promised the switch back before any undercut could possibly happen as a result of his team pitting Lando first.

    • @MrsKBeee
      @MrsKBeee 3 месяца назад

      Piastri would've been managing his pace when he was leading, and managing the tyres given it was earlier in the race. That final stint Lando wanted to make a point so was putting his foot down. They're both my favourites on the grid, and I'm super disappointed with how things played out due to the team messing up - but I do think that Oscar should've gotten the win.
