For caculation of bs....how to dividing the shear portion as 40mm and tension portion as 35mm....Is our wish to divide or why dont u take shear portion as 50mm and tension portion as 25 mm.plz clarity my doubt

Actually min. edge distance is 1.5d(h) = 1.5 * 20 = 30 mm. But it can be assumed as
e = 35mm.
So wi= 75 - 35 = 40 mm

The min. pitch distance is also 2.5d = 2.5 * 18 = 45 mm, where d is nominal diameter of bolt.
And assumption is p= 50 mm.

Gross Area of ISA 75x50x8 is taken from the Table IV of IS SP 6(1) 1964.
