Why men won’t commit & women have 'unrealistic' standards

  • Today’s conversation is long overdue! I wanted to have a real, raw, conversation around singleness and dating, especially in these times where so many opinions are flying around, leaving young people confused and discouraged. Who better to unpack this with than the IFBNW herself??? We’re discussing why men won’t commit, if women really have unrealistic standards, marriage shaming, movies on the 1st date, and so much more.

8:31 When she mentioned that she had asked God to give her signs to know if she should be in that relationship was very interesting to me. In my personal growth as a renewed and more open Christian, I've learned to pay more attention to patterns rather than signs. We keep hoping for this one big event or occurrence to say "Yes this is it, this is the sign I've been hoping for" but you'll save yourself a lot of time and heartache by paying more attention to patterns or repeating habits, actions, responses & situations that incur doubt or pain in your interactions and relationships with others.
If you're able to identify this and actually act on it you exponentially increase your awareness, conviction and self respect too.

I pay attention to patterns too because it certainly leading somewhere. We are formed by patterns

Definitely agree with this. Sometimes you can ask/hope for a certain sign and the enemy will bring that to confuse you. I think the sign should not be asked for in isolation. I.e. we should also check habits, whether or not we have peace, what others say about the relationship (like parents, close friends...)

I feel like being single with God is different than being single and in the world. When I’m focused on God there’s always something new to learn / to do each day. I’m so consumed with pleasing the Lord that I’m like am I even ready for a husband LOL. But when I was in the world I was always left wanting.

I’m still so young but I remember I wasn’t interested in marriage and I in fact thought that I was called to lifetime consecration. In fact I mocked some singles like me who prayed for their future husbands😅 but I suddenly started to desire it and I made an agreement with the Lord that I’ll only start praying for the husband at the end of 2023 and it’s the end of 2023😂 This video is so timely and I’m grateful ❤

me I have no experience dating, and my POV on marriage has changed over the years. I have moved from being certain that I didn't want marriage, to being super busy with life and career, then, like Ifeoma said, knowing that there were things that I needed to work on (my mind, relationship with God, my convictions, even about relationships and marriages) before (thinking of) bringing someone else into the equation.
Now, though, as someone who's evolved (on all sides) and recognises their consecrated life, I may have fallen into the pit of not attempting anything (opening myself up) until I have confirmation from God about it, like Ezinne pointed. Or, maybe I'm just guarded/critical and do not want any man to show me shege...with the situation of the streets being what it is

It really hit hard bcus I've always had this thought in head❤

This conversation was really gooooddd and intelligent in every sense of it. I could relate with what Ifeoma said about not wanting to date for while then all of a sudden, you begin to desire it and I'm like, yea, that's me. There were lots of learning points for me. Also that we as women, become honest with ourselves that we are not always the victims in situations and we, too, do have our own flaws. It's also not a bad thing to pray for your relationship and marriage even as you desire to be in one. Thinking about it, I feel it's a good way to put the desire into good use. lol. I enjoyed this conversation. Thank you Ezinne 💜. Heading to the pod to continue.

Hi Ezinne, I really enjoyed watching this. When I saw this appear more than once on my feed, I knew I definitely had to watch it. One of my major takeaways was that it is God who is ultimately love that would carry the both of you through when you're in a relationship and not necessarily just how you feel towards each other.
It's very encouraging seeing this content. Thank you very much❤.

Truly there is nothing wrong with desiring love , relationship and marriage .

There is the how to “fight” .. Normalizing disagreements I think this is something I need and am learning in different relationships , conflict isn’t something I usually look forward to .

The Truth is that, what is termed as unrealistic standards , is actually GOD, speaking to the woman , of how HER MAN, should be. Only what is GOOD comes from GOD, and not with is average, or trying. Now this doesn't mean HE should be 100% when you meet HIM, but GRACE can make that happen. If He isn't, then you both have to work your way up to that level. You the Woman, should note that you must be that thing, that you must have those features, that you need your Husband to have.
