- The WDR BIG BAND performs together with Lionel Loueke (guitar, vocals) his composition "Aziza Dance", in an arrangement by chief conductor Bob Mintzer. Other solos are played by Ben Fitzpatrick on tenor saxophone, Lionel Loueke on guitar, Hans Dekker on drums and Sebastian Nickoll on percussion. Produced as part of the WDR JAZZCLUB concert "African Soul" at WDR Studios Bocklemünd / Cologne (December 2022).
The internationally multi-award-winning guitarist Lionel Loueke comes from Benin in West Africa. His strongly rhythmic music with its thoroughly independent sound can be heard on numerous albums, including on the renowned jazz label Blue Note. Loueke's bands regularly feature renowned soloists such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding.

Drummers take note...Hans Dekker is one of the best drummers around. He can play anything. Notice how he locked into the odd signature on this tune. He's like Vinnie..awesome job Hans!!

Hi Dominique! This went through many time signatures but the theme is 3 times 4/4 and 1 time 5/4... or 17/4 as you like.
I would rather subdivide it into 8th notes, which would mean a combination of one bar 8/8 and one bar 9/8, resolving to a 17/8, as @WDR BIG BAND just pointed out in quarter notes.
