- 👉 Learn about the parts of a parabola. A parabola is the shape of the graph of a quadratic equation. A regular palabola is the parabola that is facing either up or down while an irregular parabola faces left or right. A quadratic equation is an equation whose highest exponent in the variable(s) is 2.
The parts of a parabola include: the axis of symmetry (the line passing through the vertex of the parabola to which the parabola is symmetric about), the vertex (the point at which the parabola turns), the domain (the set of possible x-values of the parabola, usually all real numbers for regular parabolas), the range (the possible y-values of the parabola which is usually the region above the vertex inclusive or below the vertex inclusive for regular parabolas), the x-intercepts (the points where the parabola cuts the x-axis) and the y-intercepts (the point(s) where the parabola cuts the y axis.

Dude you don't understand how much this guy has saved my life in math. I almost want to cry bro. I was so frustrated and I hated math, and it seemed like nothing but a dark tunnel with no way out. But this guy came in and everythings coming together. He's always the one who comes in and gives hope to us math students. This guy is the most underrated teacher in all of RUclips
So happy to be there for you, keep up the hard work
Why is he so petty towards Cody man 😂
Yeah i was like damn it just got silent for a min😂

I wish I had that good of a teacher. Thanks for your time put in to this video. Helped me plenty.
why does finding the x coordinate have to be so extra 😭
i love this man so much, my math teacher put this on a review for my test tmr even tho he hasn't shown us how to do this (he does this often). i genuinely cannot express how much time and stress Brian McLogan has saved me from. thank u sososososososo much for your channel
I used this video a few years back and now I'm returning to review for a Calc class! thank you for the helpful and educational videos !
Can you be my Physics teacher? You seem to explain how to do question with patience and conciseness. Please teach us Physics :D
bro explained it better within 4 minutes than my teacher did this whole week
So happy to help!!
My teacher broke this up into multiple days of assignments and I didn’t get it, but watching your 4 minute 23 second video I was able to comprehend what seemed incomprehensible
Edit: I’ve been stressed out in school for so long because the way my teacher teaches us I just don’t get, but this has been a major stress reliever because it uncovers the simplicity that I couldn’t find
Thank you so much sirr my algebra teacher is making it way more complicated
Now I get it on my second try NICE JOB KEEP IT UP YOU ARE SO GOOD

I must say thank you so much!! Really
during this quarantine ive literally had no idea what i was doing thanks for helping
Very helpful and easy to understand, thank you very much.
Thanks a lot
really helpful thanks man
U saved my life thankyou
If we are given three points through which the parabola passed then how to find out which one is vertex?
Please help
Life saver 🙏
Ur a fantastic teacher
thank youuuuuu , now please come teach at my school!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!
thank you so much or this channel
HolyCRAP! This just made sense! WOW!
thank you!
Thank you so much I think I understand the math but we were given worksheets and my y-int. ended up being (0,29) but the worksheet’s graph only went up to 6 I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t doing it wrong unless I still am?? The problem was 2x^2-16x+29 I substituted the x’s with 0’s that’s how I got 29.
Does it equal 0?
good luck with that one mate
Wow, my final is tmw and you saved me
You are the best
thank you
awesome video
wait for the x methood c was 4 and a was x^2 so how did you get 4 again??? I'm super confused
This Guy comes in clutch
why do we have a u shape graph for a quadratic function
Rest in peace Cody
Julius Cheeser
thank you so much!
How did you get 2 as your final answer!?
First you use the quadratic equation then you use the 0 property -- that is, when you have to sets of equations that equal 0.
Sometimes i forget people write with there right hand. I was weirded out the entire time..but good job
What if the value of c is less than the value of b? if y = 5x^2 - 27x - 18, there are no numbers that multiply to -18 and add to -27 I think. What other ways are there to find the x intercepts?
use the quadratic formula
It turned out that x-int = (2, 0) and the y -int = (0, 4) and the vertex is (2, 0) as well ... Is it a happy face parabola that cuts the y axis at ( 0, 4 ) and the x axis at ( 2 , 0 ) which is its vertex and x axis intersection point at same time and bounces afterwards off ( 2 , 0) to change its direction upwards towards the infinity . Its domain is ( negative infinity , positive infinity ) and its range is ( 0 , positive infinity ) .
thanks for sharing
Thank you so muchhhhhh
shouldn't there be two x intercepts?
No always 1,2 or none
I’m assuming that means both the x intercepts are 2 right?
Anyone know how to find the x intercept if the quadratic isn't factorable? Ex. x^2 + 9x + 17
use the quadratic formula
Ok now how do you solve if there is a number for A in AX^2 + BX + C
Free my man Cody💯
would there not be two x int. ?
There would only be one since if both x-intercepts are the same, the graph crosses the x-axis one time, therefore having only one x-intercept
I’ve been watching your videos since sophomore year of high school now I’m watching them as a college freshman
Dang it cody
what if it's y=(x+1)^2
how do you get the x intercept?
Simple factoring;
You want y to be 0 since you're looking for the x intercepts
Therefore you have (x+1)(x+1)=0
The one solution that would make this equal to 0 is if x=-1
That means you only have one x intercept, at (-1,0)
Y int in standard form is also (0,C
Sir great you are
If im having trouble with math like this in 7th grade im gonna be in hell in 10th grade
tf where do you need to know this in gr 7?? in canada i'm doing this in gr 11
im in usa lol. i wrote that comment a while ago so im in geometry rn as gr 8. algebra one is considered the advanced course in my school for gr 7 and geometry for gr 8. plus, im asian but some of my asian friends took ap calc in gr 5
Same I’m in 7th grade and this is part of the honors course which is the highest level course in my school
I understand you had to factor to get -2, but why 2 times? Why was -2 in both sides of the X?
Because -2 times -2 = 4 and -2 + -2 = -4.
This works with the quadratic given, so it can be used to factories it.
ive failed three tests so I'm resorting to you. taking notes for test tomorrow
Mr can you come teach me?
hate how maths teachers solve the easiest one that can be solved and leave the harder ones for assessment
This is one problem recorded out of many
@@brianmclogan ur really helpful, but for most of our teachers do exactly this. The practice tests/reviews always have much simpler ver of the test problems.
@@klaw6368 exactly, not all teacher i might add, but most of the teacher i had throughout my education have done this alot.
Thanks for helping me pass college math man 😂
lol this is seventh grade math for me
@@stellalichter5669 thats cool nobody cares though
@@astral3488 lol i wasnt talking to u so it doesn't matter
@@stellalichter5669 yeah you were talking to someone else who doesnt care that you could do math earlier than other people. shut the fuck up
Stella Lichter shhh, the grown-ups are talking
does this work when a does not equal 1?
No need to work a different technique
So both of the x intercepts are (2,0) and (-2,0)?
no just one x-intercept (0,-2) the graph touches and bounces at (0,-2)
@@brianmclogan you mean (2,0)
He can just low key play his vid in the future to his students and not have to teach
how to solve this
f(x) = (x - 5)squared
expand it out to be x^2 -10x +25. use a generic rectangle or the FOIL method. it is a perfect square trinomial, so x =-5. or, if you don't know that method, then use the method he shows at the end of the video (the diamond thing) you will find that -5 times -5 equals 25, and -5 plus -5 equals -10, so x = -5
God what a life saver
were thus the -2 come from ???
factoring
How did you get the 2 as the answer
@@jenniferzamora1895 fuck you
@@jasonmyers5939 haha
@@jasonmyers5939 😭😭😭
At 3:41, you said -2 and -2 could add to -4...? How? Or are you just reading across the lines as -2-2?
-2 + (-2) is the same as -2 - 2, which is -4
anyone else here cause ur regular teachers can't teach?
Damn Cody... 🤣
Haha
Did Cody learn?
lmao its always cody haha
Don’t you need two (2,0) (2,0) for that example
you would only graph one of them so just stating one is fine, they are a repeated zero, with what we call a multiplicity of 2
Oh my god this guy has som humour up his sleeves
Anyone knows Anna!
what year level is this stuff
Idk what he's teaching, but I'm a freshman in high school and learned this in Algebra 1
relevent // freshman year
I’m doing this in 7th grade😩😩
W teacher ong ong
Please I got lost when you did that A×C/B structure
Finding the X intercept is hard still don’t get it 😩
(x-2)^2
what if it was x=-2 and x=+2, which one would be the correct x intercept?
One would be correct sorry
