I really dont play Malphite at all just because i find him so boring, his voicelines lack so much as well.... but this, this is really interesting and cool. Id actually try him out.
Based on his lore I think it's ok for him to have a jetpack due to the fact that he is a shard of a floating magical fortress that fell. And the thing is magic is the reason he is alive and it would make sense that a lot of magic will be stored in a part of a fortress that will make it float there for it would cement the idea that he is the shard that is keeping the fortress floating and it would make sense he is a rocket like structure.
Yeah the whole jetpack thing doesn't sit well with me either. He is a shard from a structure created by *magic*, not by some kind of technology. Still great art though. Just not very fitting for malphite IMO.

It looks really amazing. The splash art is amazingly well made, but for me, it doesnt catch the impact of the concept. I woud have gone for something like the "hero landing" pose to make it have impact (no pun intendet), since that is something I would connect more to "Malphit's Ultimate" thatn the "launch off". Nether the less, amazing video, amazing arts and the overall way to take this sort of "problem" can be applied to many other artistic things. Good Job both of you :D
@TheBuragi I think malphite flying remember more Galio (Because he has wings) than he landing. And you dont need a "Hero landing" like Galio, just Malphite landing in both of his feet with an gigantic explosion, just like a gorila jumping
@@PorthoGamesBR If anything, Malphite would smash into his target head-first. The huge triangular shard of rock that's part of his back and extends above and in front of his head is the ideal part of his body to use as a battering ram, and his head, shoulders and collarbone all have jagged parts facing the same direction.
I love this! When you were explaining the designs I kept on thinking that he shouldn't have had ant legs, or maybe just the one leg, to show that he was part of a bigger weapon and he just ran with whatever pieces were attached to it - and it would make their ult much more impactful (big hopping rock that's kinda clumsy but determines rocket launches towards you all of a sudden). Superb job as usual!
This is really great and I love how you take on the lore of the character and add it into the design, I'd love to see some other champs like alistar reworked in your style.
Galey Luu uhh well if you actually followed either of them on Instagram then you would have known about it for a long time... I’m more surprised that there are so many people shocked by this. They did a really beautiful collaborative art piece this past Valentines Day.
I love how this redesign made malphite's ult make sense. I never understood how a giant rock monster would be able to fly towards the enemy in mach 5(fun to play though). Also i would love to see the 'eliminate the enemy inside of his magical stone body' part of the lore be used on malphite someday. Trapping and crushing the enemy inside the body sounds fun.
Gotta say you're doing great with these videos and PLEASE do more! I like that you're actually improving on your methods with redesigining champions as well! Initially, the issue with Elise was that she looked too Ionian, which I'm glad you made a statement about and made more a focus on integrating lore with the character designs. Then secondly, the issue with Zyra (despite being a really good design) is that she wasn't too coherent to be seen as an in-game character, and making a mock-up model like you did with Malphite's redesign really helps!
I REALLY like your redesign, it makes a lot of sense and reinforces his fantasy SO WELL, based on his lore, his original look, his signature ultimate... it all comes together 👌
You did malphite justice. He looks exactly what i imagined him to be. A SHARD. A piece of something that was once great. A like his triangular bagpack jetpack design. It suits him. Great work. You got yourself a sub
I would really like for you to take a look at lee sin or twisted fate, they are probably one of the least interesting characters in the game (visually).
I guess Lee, TF and Ryze suffer from the same problem, they are quite generic but too iconic to be changed. The latter two were reworked didn't have their appearances changed too much.
Think lee is pretty impossible, a blind, strong man, what can you really do? I guess you could try to make the dragon part of him a little more obvious. Twisted fate could be really cool tho, there should be more than a guy with a hat
I really liked the first design with him as a comet!! The sillhoutte was just really unique but all the designs were pretty great! Can’t wait for more!!
Wow, this design is really cool. He is no longer giant rock monster #37. Would have liked some bigger fists though since he is a giant rock monster that punches things. When not ulting anyway. Amazing work :)

Just wanna say i’m really happy at how the “fixing designs” videos have changed on this channel. Ive been rewatching the Pokémon redesign videos and while i enjoy the work and discussions you and the gang put in, i feel (along with many others going by the comments) that the design changes were almost purely cosmetic and detached from the rest of the evo line (when it applies). So after watching that and then coming here again, i really appreciate how you (and presumably the whole crew) took what everyone said to heart and now make it a point to include the lore of the characters, and try to stay true to it when redesigning them. Its really inspiring to see creators i look up to take criticism and learn from it, and i wanna thank you for doing the same, and hope you continue to do this in future videos!
First: Please redesign Lulu, she's cute but i don't really feel she have an interesting design that reflects her lore, she is just a little purple kawaii Witch. Second: Why don't you try to create your own character? Take a time to read about runeterra and then try to create a character, it would be epic!
Aaawww I loved the idea of 2.0 Malphite being this jetpack gorilla. His ult would be him using a burst of magic to jump into the air and come slamming down both of his fists, which definitely makes more sense than his current ult Guess he'll now just belly flop into battle
I love the art and original concept, but a big problem I have with this is that you based the design of his ult which unfortunately in the lore he really doesn't do it. The design makes him look like he is a fast moveing rocket which was your intent, but his lore tells a different story. With this VGU the abilatys would be completely changed by Riot to match the lore. Malphite is a slow moveing monolith that has been infused with in the land of Ixtal through it's magics. He does not rocket in to punch the void; no matter how cool that would be. He finds it and captures it, entoumbing it with in his mountain like form. I think if a redesign were to come from Riot they would lean on that more, changing the character from the rock golem brawler, to a mountain sized prison for the horrors of the void. I love this design and the idea of a mountain sized comet rocketing towards you, but with the current lore of Malphite I don't think it really suits him. Love your content and keep up the amazing art.
While you are correct that his ult does not fit his lore very well, I would argue that Riot does not necessarily have to go that heavy into that redesign aspect of Malph. They could easily just do a Morgana or Ezreal style rework where they just update him visually but keep all of his kit because it works well enough in the game that there is no need to change anything about it. He is in Wild Rift after all. They would have to implement those gameplay mechanics into that game when they already have current Malph's kit in WR already. Besides, we already have a champ that gobbles people up, two actually (Cho and Urgot), so having a third that devours people is a bit much. And if they did get rid of that ult, then much of Malph's in game personality just kinda gets lost, turning them into a completely different champ, though when has that stopped them from redesigning a champ anyway? (Galio, Morde, though these were for the better imo). While you do make good points trying to connect the lore with the gameplay, I feel Malphite will always be that one super simple champ that just works the way he does because Riot needs simple champs for new players and players who just like to have fun and meme around in general. We already got our over complicated and skill based champs. Our big rock boi, imo, is fine with his current kit. But he is definitely my top 10 for visual updates. Plus he's my second champ so I'm a little biased haha
THIS Malphite, makes me wanna try tanks! He looks awesome! Maybe someone from Piltover next? Like Cait, I feel like she has too much stuff just like Vi does. Something that's more of a challenge would be Kennen. :0 But y'all havent drawn Runeterra humans before 🤔 so that would be interesting
Dayum, those LoL redesign episodes just get better and better. I like how you went from doing pretty much whatever you wanted in the first episode to REALLY diving into a process similar to what riot is doing. Taking lore and original themes into account to make an ENHANCED version of the original design without making a completely different champion. I enjoyed this episode thoroughly and I'm exited for what you'll do next :)
Soooo as someone how is absolutely love's the redesigns you're doing, could you do Skarner? I love Skarner's design right now, but I wonder how u could make it better!
Ngl with your terms or “dutiful, friendly, oblivious, not the smartest” I was thinking of groot. Also I love these videos, please do more of these champion redesigns.
You are just doing riot's job and im loving it, these videos are so good and you all did such amazing jobs. I just wish riot could put this in the game, even if I will miss old malphite
I'll be honest that, this isn't my favorite. You'r art is great, and the process you followed were perfect, but (and there is always a but) one interpretation you made from the story, at the begning, differs a lot from what i've had on my mind, so i ended up the whole video biasesd xD Thing is, the feeling i had about Malphite new lore, is that he is almost a simulacrum of a humanoid form, still powered by a fragment of the monolith. So, i would have gonne with a stone body, with a literal spike, shard, piece of the ruins of the monolith inserted, probably on an unconfortable position (No butt jokes, please), that powers the body. Similar to the concept of Aatrox always beeing decaying flesh and having to stay on a killing spree to replenish it? I felt that the new malphite, by the fact that it seemely can move through earth magicallly, is something like that. A core of energy, that holds it's purpouse and personality and an amalgamation of rocks, stones, minerals that it uses to take form. Yes, his ultimate is iconic, but not enough, at least in my eyes, to be the sole base of a redesign. Acutally, if they re-worked him, i would like to keep the concept of "unstopeable force" but change the mechanics, going to something similar to Sions ultimate but ,lower range, quicker casting, something that would fit well with an "lego" body build. Ironically, when you showed the 4 image, i thought it was going on a good way. Yeah, too straight and to thin to be malhite, but the floating rocks, the unconnected structure could be good, an colossus made of what minerals are around him. (Something, that would fit well with some concepts like one that part of the fiddlesticks skins, are actually his "main" skin depending on the region he's manifested, tha same could be applied to Malphite) So, a more "Core Shard of the Old Monolith" as the real "soul" of the creature, and a simulacrum of minerals making an humanoid, or maybe a gorilla shape body. Another concept that his backstory gave me, was not for a rework on him, but for a possible new champion, an "Ruin Colossal" kind of thing, going for Shadow of the Colossus immagery and a body made of pieces of the original Monolith. Could even be a point of attriction and conflict between it and malphite, as the "Ruin Elemental" (For those that played DnD 3.5 would may have encountered) would be wanting the piece, that keeps Malphite alive back into itself. Maybe the Ruin Elemental have power over the elements, like an Tanky version of Qiyana (Her region REALLY needs more champions doesn't it?) but it lacks the rule over earth, minerals adn stone. Why? Because Malphite got it own mind and started doing it's job. Sorry for long post, love your videos, even thorugh on this one i disagreed with the direction you took, as concepts and illlustrations per-se they are FANTASTIC! Thanks for the amazing content :D Edit: Freak, imagine if the secret of the original Monolith were that it was powered by a Runestone. And a shard of that runestone is the heart of Malphite, this would put more conflicts for the chcaracter to develop, and impose on Ryze the dillema of "This weapon of mass destruction is not only giving life to a good and protective beeing, but it's working to save the world against the Void, should i take it or leave it be? Should i protect it and help it?"
Also, i totally wanna do an "Moving Volcano" on my dnd Setting that is actually an cool primordial elemental stuck on the prime material plane, and use your concept of the old wise guy with a giant freaking volcano on his back xD Seriously, this may be a good way to introduce a primordial oposed to some of the princes of the apocalypse adventure for my homebrew setting, and take even some inspiration on the avatar dragon turtles :P
I'd love to see your take on Kai'Sa cause imo she feels the most wasted design-wise. A child born in the void with a living weapon, only for it to look like Generic Sexy Lady.
More Xenomorph tubes I remember in the recent alien movie there was a picture of Shaw (don't remember her name, she was the main lady in the Prometheus ) she had been experimented on by the android and she dead and has got tube things running around face and every where.
She already had concept art that looked way more unique, like a mixture of Metroid and Prototype. Unfortunately it got scrapped because some higher-ups probably said "no bobs and vegana means no skin sales, make her sexy".
I loved the design and splash art, but the perspective from which the splash art was taken just kinda bothered me. In any champion splash art in which the champion is in midair, the perspective of the picture is always below the champ, seemingly to accentuate their superiority, whereas in this one the perspective is on level. Also, the splashes are usually from a plausible perspective from which an onlooker could see the champ in action, and gives a sense of scale for champions for which it's unclear just how massive they may be, like how Malph and Cho'Gath have soldiers in their splashes for scale. I loved the designs, just thought I'd mention a few of my observations for future consideration. Keep up the great work!
When you were mentioning he looked like a giant turtle that will protect you if he must, that made me think of Gamera. Gamera is a giant turtle kaiju for who havent heard if him.
This is definitely my favorite league design you guys have done thus far. My only input is that the jewel on his head, especially in his splash-art, kinda looks like his other eye :o
I feel your rework more like a rocket than a meteor, maybe instead of a rocket to propulse him, a volcano like explosion would fit more. But I love the architectural pieces. Great work and keep it up!!!!
The splash art is just amazing! it feels like a gigantic being, i like to imagine myself standing in the edge of his "somewhat" horn, it would be terryfing and beautiful at the same time. Another thing about the splash is that it really gets the feel of a AP Malphite going to get you of the world once and for all
"It kinda looked like that robot from the anime with the sad kid" To quote a certain nuclear-powered villain: Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?
Instead of a jetpack it could be a literal volcano that explode and send Malphite foward. I feel like the Jetpack breaks the ideia of a tribal design, but i liked the idea of something pushing him in his ultimate
Great redesign! Being new to this channel I've gone back and noticed that a lot of the older redesign videos got a lot of flak for not taking full lore into consideration, but this one felt very educated and thought out (although I don't play league so I couldn't say). There does appear to be a lot of improvement since then regardless, keep up the good work!
I feel like the best way would have been to throw darts at a print out of the monolith and then randomly assign them to different body parts. Malphite is an amalgamation of a broken fortress, but your rework feels too well designed. It still feels very purposeful and put together, like a stone mech. For example, the pointy head piece that has the symbol of Ixtal could have made for a peg-leg that would have made his walk cycle less stable. He could have a completely flat chest or back as one of the walls of the monolith, but the other side would just gorge out with a bunch of boulders. Maybe somewhere in his chest is just a hole where he subsumed a hallway or a room of some sort and it’s just still there.

I like the pillars on his back, giving the feel that he can carry a whole city, but I think that "jetpack" is going a bit too far

He literally described Galio. I feel like if he had removed the "Friendly" keyword, and instead replaced it with "Unbothered," he'd have gotten an even more creative design.
@@cuckhands there's actually very little "friendly" in his final design tho

You two are so talented. The way you both play to your strengths and complement each others work is absolutely magical.
As Malphite himself would say : "Rock solid". As me myself: I'll take your entire stock

Am I the only one who didn't know Claire was his girlfriend until now
Well up until now we all assumed that she was just a roommate. He never really mentioned what their relationship was like until now
no
Galey Luu uhh well if you actually followed either of them on Instagram then you would have known about it for a long time...
I don't even like league, but these videos are so interesting that I watch them anyway! I'd love to see more!
I REALLY like your redesign, it makes a lot of sense and reinforces his fantasy SO WELL, based on his lore, his original look, his signature ultimate... it all comes together 👌
LOL: Take it down, we can’t have evidence that were taking his idea, it’s to good
OKAY. ALL of your concept sketches in this video are so extremely friend-shaped. I just wanna hug him and give him a smooch on the rock cheek
wow, this looks amazing! he's like if zorah magdaros was a superhero. Rock Solid!
You did malphite justice. He looks exactly what i imagined him to be. A SHARD. A piece of something that was once great. A like his triangular bagpack jetpack design. It suits him. Great work. You got yourself a sub
These concepts are so cool! Frickin' awesome, man! A jetpack! A JETPACK!
malphites lore is just him building full ap and ulting khazix and reksai
I would really like for you to take a look at lee sin or twisted fate, they are probably one of the least interesting characters in the game (visually).
I guess Lee, TF and Ryze suffer from the same problem, they are quite generic but too iconic to be changed. The latter two were reworked didn't have their appearances changed too much.
Think lee is pretty impossible, a blind, strong man, what can you really do? I guess you could try to make the dragon part of him a little more obvious.
Twisted fate could be really cool tho, there should be more than a guy with a hat
@@ensiemen9836 Lee isn't even blind he wears that over his eyes for his training.
@@Skullkaiser Nope. He's completely blind. He melted his own eyes when he used the Dragon Technique for the first time in a rage.

YOURE GIRLFIREND IS A MONSTER WHEN SHE STARTED DOING THE PAINTING PART

Wow, this design is really cool. He is no longer giant rock monster #37. Would have liked some bigger fists though since he is a giant rock monster that punches things. When not ulting anyway. Amazing work :)
Damn. I love the process of conceptualization up to the implementations you guys made. I loved jow malphite fits and actually looks like a hero of LOL. Looking forward to you guys redesigning gragas. I wonder how you guys are gonna make that a loveable character.
This Design is Brilliant! In the end, you captured the feel of sketch Seven; in that I look at both of them and just surge with Joy.
*chefs kiss* I love these videos, but more so because how much I learn every single time I watch them. Great job and thank you for everything you guys do. I'm gonna' go and join your discord now...
Beautiful paint job from claire.
Less important comment: have Jack and claire always been a thing or did he just casually graze over it.
Bit of both
I love how the in-game sketch he's looking up and mean mugging you, like a grumpy turtle
His ult would be him using a burst of magic to jump into the air and come slamming down both of his fists, which definitely makes more sense than his current ult
Guess he'll now just belly flop into battle
@TheBuragi oh yeah. Havent seen him in a while 😂
This is super cool, I like how it looks like it could sit down to take a nap, and just become a mountain.
I came into this video expecting a more casual gameplay-oriented video, but this was insanely high quality. This was really interesting and well done.
When you’re so early the “first” comments aren’t here yet..
This is a first comment

Was on the lookout for exactly this comment. You are abslutely right.
You are just doing riot's job and im loving it, these videos are so good and you all did such amazing jobs. I just wish riot could put this in the game, even if I will miss old malphite
I'll be honest that, this isn't my favorite.
You'r art is great, and the process you followed were perfect, but (and there is always a but) one interpretation you made from the story, at the begning, differs a lot from what i've had on my mind, so i ended up the whole video biasesd xD
Thing is, the feeling i had about Malphite new lore, is that he is almost a simulacrum of a humanoid form, still powered by a fragment of the monolith.
(Something, that would fit well with some concepts like one that part of the fiddlesticks skins, are actually his "main" skin depending on the region he's manifested, tha same could be applied to Malphite)
So, a more "Core Shard of the Old Monolith" as the real "soul" of the creature, and a simulacrum of minerals making an humanoid, or maybe a gorilla shape body.
Thanks for the amazing content :D
Edit: Freak, imagine if the secret of the original Monolith were that it was powered by a Runestone.
Also, i totally wanna do an "Moving Volcano" on my dnd Setting that is actually an cool primordial elemental stuck on the prime material plane, and use your concept of the old wise guy with a giant freaking volcano on his back xD
Seriously, this may be a good way to introduce a primordial oposed to some of the princes of the apocalypse adventure for my homebrew setting, and take even some inspiration on the avatar dragon turtles :P
wow, the relation between rune and ryze that develops with malphite lore is very amazing, and it also very suitable for the first forty champion pool.
I LOVE it. I do like his old more hunched proportions where his head is placed, but other than that. *chefs kiss*
I'd love to see your take on Kai'Sa cause imo she feels the most wasted design-wise.
A child born in the void with a living weapon, only for it to look like Generic Sexy Lady.
More Xenomorph tubes
I remember in the recent alien movie there was a picture of Shaw (don't remember her name, she was the main lady in the Prometheus ) she had been experimented on by the android and she dead and has got tube things running around face and every where.
She already had concept art that looked way more unique, like a mixture of Metroid and Prototype. Unfortunately it got scrapped because some higher-ups probably said "no bobs and vegana means no skin sales, make her sexy".
You got your wish, Demetri.
The second concept is just rock avalugg
And now I want Gallio and Malphite to meet and be bros since they’re about the same side
Malphite is WAY bigger than Galio, but the probably will be pals
Nice touch. I love learning.
I don’t play league, but I am obsessed with its lore and read the story constantly,
Malphite’s lore is just badass fantasy iron giant
When you were mentioning he looked like a giant turtle that will protect you if he must, that made me think of Gamera. Gamera is a giant turtle kaiju for who havent heard if him.
Wow something inside me really needed to see that collaborative painting between you and Claire.
this actually could be the malphite rework cuz its accurate and well done
I thought he was a literal mountain which is way cooler the what you said the law is.
lol i keep seeing an owl face when looking at his eye and nostril. Such a cool rework. Love the awesomeness that this channel keeps pumping out
This is definitely my favorite league design you guys have done thus far.
Another thing about the splash is that it really gets the feel of a AP Malphite going to get you of the world once and for all
Sometimes I rewatch this videos, and I can't get over the love I have after the second design... It's just so amazing.
"It kinda looked like that robot from the anime with the sad kid"
To quote a certain nuclear-powered villain: Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?
Instead of a jetpack it could be a literal volcano that explode and send Malphite foward. I feel like the Jetpack breaks the ideia of a tribal design, but i liked the idea of something pushing him in his ultimate
Duuuuuuude the splashart looks so good!
Great chill video as always btw.
Just you explaining the process makes the video so interesting and fun to watch
Good job man, riot would never do something amazing as this (obv).
A cho'gath redesign would be pretty cool. He's been the same since his introduction.
I think this is my favourite redesign of the LoL characters so far. And Claire's splash art was amazing!
I love it so much! I didn’t think he really needed a rework, then I saw this video.
malphite left the previously chaotic world to bring much needed equilibrium in another universe much needed of his help, this time dressing as a super kappa brother
I think it would be really cool if you tried to visually remaster Cho'Gath,
I really want to see how you would visualize this awesome void champion.
Time traveler here. Boy, do I got some news for you
