Very tasteful playing! Making me want to get my bass out. Love the thumb control on those lower runs

@Pauli Pétas I Forgot to ask, since the majority of 4001/4003 content is all Rush, Yes, and Motorhead. (the same old tones)
Its refreshing to see the instrument stretch its legs and get into other tones which it does very very well.
What Strings/amp setup on the bass in this clip? The roundness with no harshness on the bridge pickup only sounds great.

Thanks, yes Rick isn't an one trick pony, it has a lot of sounds in it! I use Ernie Ball slinky bass strings (100-45) and I use a blend of the line sound and a logic x bass amp plugin to create the bass sound.

You have to slap rics very politely (just like this video) for them so sound good, they often get muddy with the more intense slap

I want a Rickenbacker 4003 because I saw this Video!

I highly recommend getting one! But you should try one before buying, because they feel very different compared to many other basses eg. Fenders.

Good stuff! i love it! are you using flats or rounds on that ? I want a ric bass even more now, this fits perfectly in what i have in mind with my future projects.. (rock, funk, fusion, etc etc...)
Great video, i hadn't heard anyone slap a rickenbacker before lol (i just havent looked hard enough ahahha)

Thanks! I use old Ernie Ball slinky bass rounds. For some reason many bassists see a Rick as a one trick pony even though it's a quite versatile instrument.

    • @Bordres
      @Bordres 9 месяцев назад

Thats true, many know the Rickenbacker bass from the Beatles, or from Lemmy, Chris Squire, etc etc, and think that the ric belongs to one genre only, but like all guitars, they can be used for a whole lot of stuff hahaha
The Ric was supposed to sound like an upright with the specially made strings it came with, but some players put roundwounds on it, creating a sound that is iconic.. showing how truly versatile it is!!!

Mostly flat EQ but a little bit of emphasis on lower middle and high frequencies.

Its so refreshing to see some 'just' play well! This is what players...what...professionals...what...'actual' musicians (those who get paid to make music for other's to 'listen to' do. Music is 'not' a thing to be watched! That it has, in some forums, become more visual than aural, is part of a greater problem.
The groove...is a thing meant to be communicated 'through' the music, not simply laid overtop of it as it were clothing. It is a thing 'felt' and heard, not 'seen' and merely implied or suggested by undue flailing and head-bobbing, such as has now become the practice 'and' the fashion of the amateur 'influencers'.
A generation of narcissistic (love of your own play) head-bangers, who is now musically matured and given to other genres, wherein the 'on-stage' theatrics have no place for having no audience. Follow this example: SIT STILL...and listen to yourself critically, and you may come to realize how deficient your play is.
Absent the the visual distraction of your own theatrics, you may be able to...channel that newly available (for being newly contained) energy, and learn how to create tension and release it in a controlled way through the discipline of your play. That is the definition of musicianship. Controlling energy is what creates poetry and power!

Interesting comment! Lots to think about. I can't say that the visual side is an important thing on this channel as it's mostly just me looking grumpy while playing bass, but on the other hand I like the simplicity of this setting.
